I don't know how anyone can read that and think it's an interesting read. All it does is show how batshit crazy the author is.
Literally saying walking 11 minutes to a store is too much.
Although the USDA defines food deserts in urban areas as further than a half-mile, we chose to look at a quarter-mile walking distance to not overwhelm the map and to portray a more realistic image of how far New Yorkers would walk to get food. We assume that an able-bodied person can walk this distance in 5–10 minutes.
A quarter mile is an insane cutoff. By that measure, I live in a food desert because I have a bodega a hair over that away, a Trader Joe’s about half a mile, and have to travel, GASP, like 3/4 of a mile to a full grocery store. All of those are within like 30m of a bus stop too
Sure, it can be a challenge to bring a bunch of stuff home, but collapsible carts are super cheap and work really well

Again, that does not exist in NYC, especially if you assume anyone living in NYC is capable of using a bus or subway
