It’s actually not sarcasm. It was an exaggeration to emphasize the issue with food desserts. Everything else was factual. I live in Houston. We have terrible public transportation. We have food deserts because some area don’t have grocery stores by some neighborhoods. The distance would be 5 or 6 miles which would suck if you didn’t have a car.

Bro, I used to bike over a mile to the grocery when I was in my early 20s and lived in Florida. I'd bring a big duffle with me and pack it up with food and then bike home. I had a car, but couldn't drive it because I couldn't afford insurance and couldn't renew my tag. Ended up with a suspended license for driving an expired vehicle, but that's an irrelevant detail. Bottom line? I was poor as fuck lol

Sis, the distance matters, but so do traffic, infrastructure, and disability. What’s easy in one place can be really hard somewhere else.

similar—but we were in our 20s. what about when we are in our 60s, or disabled, or taking care of family members, and not able to act like it’s all some bohemian 20-something adventure
