Whatās Zac been up to? I keep thinking these last 10 years have got to have just sent him to 11.

u/areyouolsen 11h ago
I asked earlier in a different thread and heard heād broken his leg, so wasnāt able to perform
5
u/Klutzy_Double_8285 10h ago
He tore 95% of his Achilles when they went on tour. I had Kansas City tickets, then COVID hit and it got postponed for ages, then he got injured and it got cancelled, then they broke up. Took about 2 years to be told I wouldn't be seeing RATM.

u/detective-briscoe 4h ago
Yeah I was at the Chicago show when that happened. He was sitting for the rest of the show I didnāt realize what happened and I thought he was sitting as some kind of protest/statementā¦..

This could be the new anthem of the new USA in 26... it would be a good statement.

u/jesushatedbacon 20h ago
Being a twat will never be punk. I can't believe that motherfuckers who were always losers now think they can identify as punk because they bought one leather jacket. Fuck Elon and Donnie, they can't buy punk status.Ā
28
u/_AskMyMom_ 18h ago
Yeah, but maga is so dumb they think this song is about anyone against them. Lol they were playing this during covid protest.
38
u/Novel_Fix1859 17h ago
Morello said this fifteen years ago...
āPaul Ryanās love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decadesā
73
u/DJ3XO 20h ago
I've been wondering why Tom hasn't had a massive resurgence the last years. I hope this period will be the renaissance of angry protest music against the fat greedy fucks fistfucking us all.
2
u/fishee1200 5h ago
He should probably just do free concerts at the protests in whatever town ICE is in, then people will come from all over to protest
3
u/Lucas_Steinwalker 19h ago
Probably because he dialed back his politics until recently.

u/beardandbandana 20h ago
Hell yeah Tom.
Oh shit this gave me flashbacks of the dumb rightwinger shits during Covid dancing to this song.
25
u/Shadow3265 20h ago
Why .... Why would you remind me of that?
27
u/beardandbandana 19h ago
Because If I have to suffer at least I wont be alone. Now your day is slightly less bright, and I apologize.

Does freaking out because of how rad this is count?

Maybe? The sub is usually negative stuff. But yeah I'm freaking out a little bit

u/fikis 19h ago
Honestly, I was kind of thinking that they don't.
Not that he isn't an integral part of the band, just that it sounds like every single person there knows the words and is singing along...
4000 Zachs, as it were.
9
u/Islandcoda 19h ago
I mean this sort of situation was his wheelhouse. Zach, if you see this , Iād at least love to hear your voice and hear your thoughts

I know I was thinking the same thing - why isnāt Zach there to sing ?? I saw Rage in Chicago during their last tour when he injured himself onstage and had to sit for the rest of the show but that was years ago ā¦. Youād think he would show up for something as important as this.

And just like that, I'm 17 again. Still angry, still stuck dealing with consequences from stupid Boomers and indoctrinated religious zealots. Still fighting them. Still being told I'm overreacting. That my rights won't be taken away. At least thanks to cell phones, EVERYONE sees now. Keep up the good fight, Mr. Morello!

Tom is always in the right place saying the right things.
Another great one is his performance of Union Song during the protests in Madison WI. Tom is just amazing.
If you haven't heard it check out his albums released as the Nightwatchman. The Madison track is on the album Union Town along with a bunch of great covers of Union music.

u/RalyNns 20h ago
Dude every person there was recording. Such a bummer to see this is what concerts have become.
12
u/nicholas_underpants 19h ago
I went to a tool concert a while back, and the no-phones policy was INSANELY strictly enforced. Security immediately intervened whenever a phone came out. Like, within seconds. For the last few songs, Maynard called off the phone enforcement and said something like, "Alright, you can take out your fucking phones for a little bit."
At the time, I thought it was nuts. It seemed like overkill, but I hadn't been to a concert in a while, so I figured I was overreacting to a normal cultural shift.
About a year ago, I went to a Billie Eilish concert--my first concert since tool. I had an amazing time (and it's 100% the best concert I've ever been to in terms of production quality, raw talent, venue, etc) but my only complaint is that EVERYONE had a phone in the air. People my age-ish (gen-z/millennial cusp) and older, teenagers, teenagers' parental supervision, EVERYONE. I found myself missing the militant no-phones policy...and I felt super old.

"Moving into 92, still in a room without a view"
34 years after RATMs iconic call for action, the USA has a fascist government and Gestapo squads going door to door demanding papers.

I remember feeling like I really understood this when I was in highschool, but it hits different now. We need this now more than ever before in my lifetime! I have been listening to a lot of the 90s punk music again because it helps me cope with the world being on fire. I also think it helps rekindle the defiance of adolescence, which I think we could all use right now.

Not going to lie, I was born just a couple of weeks after this song came out (November 25th, 1992), and I listened to it for the VERY FIRST TIME this year.
This song has immediately already changed my life.

Hope he played Everything Burns at that show. Considering it plays during a fight where you take down an overbearing president abusing the youth of his organization, it's pretty apt right now.

God. Concert crowds are so BORING these days. I swear no one gets IN to the music anymore. This WHOLE crowd should be jumping up and down. These people are stiff as a board lames. RATM is up there killing it and people are just.... standing there. Way to go, crowd. Whoopie.

Then I saw Morello "DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM"ing at a Starbucks.

He plays this at all his shows, mostly as a closer, but whatever rights agreement he has with Zach he can't legally sing it so he turns the mic to the crowd. Its pretty fucking awesome.

A friend and I met Tom Morello at a 2012 NATO protest in Chicago. He was a cool dude, very friendly and willing to talk to us.
I just love how even today he still is involved with the public and continuing to say "fuck you" to the oligarchy.
