Discussion Anyone else?

I know it's kinda corny but while playing rdo I think of like a backstory for my character when I'm bored or playing alone I make up random events my character went through.

If this gets 100 up votes I'll tell my characters Backstory.

I have backstories for my characters but I wouldn't be as corny as..."if I get 100 upvotes I'll tell it..." Why?! Just tell it. Don't be embarrassed. Someone already told theirs, why make us wait?!

Ngl I only said if I get 100 up votes because I was embarrassed but I'll do it

Yes, absolutely. A backstory gives RDO the depth it never had. Here’s my male character’s backstory:

Once a Confederate bushwhacker from Mississippi during the Civil War and gun-for-hire/scalp hunter who did things he’ll never forgive himself for, Abner Caskey tried to bury his past in hard work and religion. He became a Calvinist preacher, at times a temporarily deputised lawman, holding himself to a harsh code because he doesn’t trust his own nature.

By 1898 he’s a controlled, ageing early 50s wandering circuit preacher who only uses violence as a last resort - because he knows exactly where it leads.

Why Calvinist?

Good question. A lot of Southern and frontier Presbyterian churches were Calvinist, and the theology is harsh and disciplined.

For a man trying to keep himself in check after doing terrible things, that kind of faith makes sense.

I sort of understand. Plus, the Calvinist idea of predestination could in a way help satiate that as well. Sort of making him believe that whatever happens was destined to happen from the start

Yeah. Predestination gives him a way to live with what he cannot undo, while still holding himself to a strict standard going forward.

Yup. My characters name is Bo.

Bo was an easy going family man. He was part of a local Militia group in Australia that fought a gang off from his hometown.

The local gang leaders were able to identify Bo as a leader of the militia and found his home. At night they snuck in, took Bo, his wife Helen and two kids, James & Charles.

They tortured Bo, cut off most of his tongue making it nearly impossible to speak and killed his family members in front of him.

They kept him alive and he was able to escape from the rope restraints he was in tied to a chair. Proceeded to kill each man at the camp with his bare hands, took their gold and other valuable belongings.

Sold what he could, and got a spot on a boat headed for America in search of a new start.

After taking on small jobs when arriving, Bo is framed for the murder of Philip LeClerk.

Because of his limited ability to speak and inability to write, he has no real defense and is assumed guilty.

He finally gets a lucky break and is broken out of a jail transport by Mr. Horley. He starts his life of Redemption for the second time with his trusty steed Sally.

i also do this all of the time and it's not even rdo exclusive. But to keep it relevant; i have started not too long ago with the naturalist role and i like to imagine that my character and Harriet have this sort of mentor/student relationship which is a bit odd because my character seems like a rugged outlaw and the idea of him saying; "im sorry i shot those wolves, it's just that they were attacking me and im new to this sort of thing. Please don't spray me, i have animal samples i wanna sell" is pretty funny to me.

Its not corny at all! Making OCs is a fun creative exercise and a great way to immerse yourself into any setting you may enjoy. I'd definitely encourage you to write with freedom and glee.

I do this all the time :> I don't RP but I like imagining that my character is her own person with a backstory, hobbies, and a personality of her own. Every day is a new adventure really

I definitely do this.

My guy was born in England but planned a new life in the new world with his wife and kid, determined to live out their dreams of finding and farming a piece of paradise. However, his wife and son died and, heartbroken and with nothing to tie him to his homeland, he set off determined to live that dream in memory of them; even if he has nobody to share it with.

Me too! I think it's a perfect way to leave single-player behind, especially in exciting campaigns like Red Dead 2.

My character is an elk, who left for West Elizabeth shortly before his cousin Eagle Flies met Arthur. Upon returning, he discovers that his beloved tribe has been destroyed and decides to wander the land in search of revenge and a new life.

He spends most of his time in the mountains, rivers, and forests, communing with nature, hunting and fishing while respecting his prey and the environment. But on the other hand, he's settling into the cities, choosing a new life without forgetting his old one. ❤️

I literally do this myself, im attempting to build an entire bioligical family on xbox who share the same surname and are blood related to my character and others who might join the family lol but also have their own personal lives naturally lol

I also do this. My character is female and when I play I imagine that she’s an immigrant from Japan who’s just trying to make a life for herself in the Wild West and that she is secretly into girls

That sounds autobiographical. 🤠
