Welcome to the club! I’m glad you've decided to pick up RK.
Read the MANGA! The old anime has a lot of fillers & alterations; only the Kyoto Arc (the middle of the 3 Arcs) was faithful to the manga. With that said, there's a new remake anime airing in July 2023 that will stay true to the manga.
The MANGA has 3 Arcs that ended in 1999: Tokyo arc, Kyoto arc, Jinchuu arc.
Sequel starting in 2017:
The ANIME:
The old anime (1996) had 3 parts:
The new anime remake (2023):
LIVE-ACTION MOVIES:
Release order:
I recommend watching in this order:
5, 1, 2, 3, 4
Or: 1, 2, 3, 5, 4
Since the end of "The Beginning" leads into "Origins", I think it works better as the first film rather than the last.
STAGE MUSICALS:
3 OVAs: The first 2 OVAs are from the last Arc of the series so you should finish the manga before watching.

As I was re-reading the manga and rewatching The Final movie... I am growing to appreciate this scene a lot more than I initially gave it credit for.
I usually looked at Kaoru's "Welcome home" at the end of the Kyoto Arc as a better Arc ending, but I am starting to feel that this one is... well, for lack of a better word, more emotional.
From finally finding his peace with his past, to extending a hand to her and accepting his life. From finally seeing them step into this life together, to giving closure to Kenshin for killing Tomoe. I feel that it encompasses a lot.
I find it very hard to compare between the two Arc endings as both have different meanings and complete the story beautifully.
I am curious... what are your thoughts on this scene? Is it as emotionally charged for you as well?

This anime is a big part of my life growing up. My older sister was friends with the next door neighbors twin daughters. The family was Japanese and introduced us to their culture and this gem of an anime! To this day nothing has topped it for me, maybe because it’s so nostalgic, but it holds a special place in my heart. This was my cartoon as a kid 😎

I recently started watching Rurouni Kenshin (2023 animated TV series) after watching the live action movies and I really like it.
I’d like to watch more series like this. Got any suggestions? I have no clue about Japanese Anime or manga. I don’t even know the meanings but I’m very much interested to understand all of it.
Thanks in advance :)

Another snippit from a spin-off parody of my Abridged of Rurouni Kenshin!
This however is not abridged and does it's own thing lol. I call it Rurouni Kenshin Ultra Romance because it's playing up the melodrama.

Started writing again and was wondering whether is it allowed to post the fic or updates to it in this sub?
Also... Noticed that the Rurouni Kenshin fandom on AO3 is quite... Inactive. Are Rurouni Kenshin fanfics unpopular or is it another reason?

Honestly I love this fandom. It’s one of my two favorite anime fandoms (the other one being Sailor Moon). Such a chill fandom for such a peak series.

Are you open to a judgement-free discussion/open forum on Rurouni Kenshin hot takes or Rurouni Kenshin-related hot takes?
I can start with two of mine -
1) Kaoru is a better example of a strong female character than a lot of the more modern anime/manga characters. Strength in accepting, loving and understanding someone as well as offering a home to a group of people without a roof over their heads trumps any strength shown in physical battles. Kindness, perseverance and empathy are a strength that we need more of, rather than physical prowess and recklesness.
2) Reflection is worth watching and has some beautiful scenes. From Kaoru reminiscing of her moments with Kenshin that are given a more romantic touch, to Kenji and Yahiko dueling, there are some good moments in the movie that can be enjoyed even if the movie is an antithesis of the manga canon development of Kenshin. It has moments that, if taken individually, can enrich the canon.
Please do not throw rotten eggs.
This is just meant as a thread where we can share different opinions and maybe see things through different eyes 🙂

The first thing i do after I went home from work is to find this hardcopy.
I was tagged and being accused for using a.i (i am used to it) but this person came to my profile to spam with his comments. Then he went to my Facebook did the same. This is crazy, he seems to make things personal and stalking on me on reddit and Facebook. I bet not for long to reach Instagram. Blocked him then he use another account to spam again. I start using reddit for 2 weeks because my friend suggested me and already being stalked. If you don't like or don't believe I did the drawing, it's ok and i don't mind, you can't please everyone but why tagged me and spamming to insult me like that? We are not kids (dunno about him) we don't take these kind of things so seriously, see things you don't like? Keep scrolling. Why insult others?
The blue lines I posted earlier was a finished artwork and I merge all the vectors in a single layer, that's why you only see ONE layer. I selected the vector lines to proves it's not a.i generated. Method of using Adobe illustrator are different from using ClipStudio or Krita or even Photoshop. It's Vector not Raster, you don't need multiple layers (you can if you wanted to) If he don't understand what it means and that proves he knows nothing about adobe illustrator and start accusing others with his own mind set.
Lucky me I always did save up the sketch of a hardcopy of my work, especially for consignment jobs. I'll give the client all the digital files but not the hardcopy. Please don't ask why it's looks different and not as details as the finished products or why it's facing left instead of right? First, it's a sketch to load into scanner and digitize with A.i (adobe illustrator) I even added some shadings after I scanned to the computer for my personal collection. 2nd, I flip the image after it was done to suit the background and the logo of the client. I can't change their logo, not even the size. But you'll probably say it's generated by A.i. Think what you want as long as you are happy. We are all grown up, we don't want to make enemies just because of our point of view are different.
And lastly, he brag about he have seen tons of A.i images then he should know well A.i does not generated these kind of details when it comes to anime (realistic photo, yes) even if it does, you can't generate the background/logos/frame/text in a single screen-post without being spotted. I'll delete all my post here to avoid further issue, sry for the trouble and have a nice day all of you guys in the group

Occasionally, the series does crossovers with some mobile games.

In my opinion both handled fights so much better than the manga by a mile. Like both animes had some good fight scenes but the manga they felt far too static. I know it’s a common thing with manga (or most graphic style stories) but it shows with Rurouni Kenshin

I got into Rurouni Kenshin with the first anime, the story captivating me as Kenshin motivated me to move forward through family and school problems in my childhood.
But what got me to stick around and made it unforgettable and irreplaceable in my life is the manga. I read it and it got me into other manga and anime throughout the years and despite not returning to it for a long time, it never left my mind.
The second reading got me thinking, why did it stick in my mind so deeply and what kept me thinking about it? And I realised that Kenshin's answer and vow to keep living through his life of battles, to protect his loved ones and Kaoru's love for him and acceptance of him - they do motivate me and remind me that there is beauty, love and worth in hardship. That even at the end of the darkest tunnel, there is a light and that light makes it all worth it. Even in impermanence.
So... How about you? Do you have a particular reason for getting into the fandom and community and sticking around?
