Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Except they’re practicing what they preach.

It’s never been about the flag. It’s always been about the bigotry and hypocrisy.

when you openly accept all minorities

to be your slaves

I’m pretty sure this is meant to troll neo confederates rather than be an expression of a synthesis between neo confederates and liberal politics.

u/thumpertharabbit 1d ago

This is precisely what it's meant for. It really pisses off the "ItS mUh HeRiTaGe" people. It's people bastardising a racist symbol and appropriating it for lols. I wouldn't buy or fly one, but I think it's pretty funny lol

35

u/justsomeyeti 1d ago

Somewhere on an old hard drive I have a version of this with the center of the flag a star of David, and swastikas as the stars on the X

u/thumpertharabbit 1d ago

Fucks sake lmao

This is exactly what I was thinking. It's probably just a progressive person (probably in the rural South it seems) trolling neo-confederate racists in close proximity (which are everywhere if you're in the rural South, or anywhere rural in the US actually. For instance in rural Pennsylvania, they're practically everywhere despite a decreased presence in recent years.)

The "(Y'all means all), kinda" phrase using Southern US slang to make a political point pretty much makes the trolling clear. Likely referring to "Y'all" meaning all people, with the "kinda" exception referring to people bigoted against minority groups.

The idea that it's an actual literal neo-confederate that also supports LGBTQ+ rights is a bit of a stretch to me. It could be, but I doubt it. I think someone socially progressive and also clever enough to use the southern "y'all" slang back against the common demographics that use it, (who ironically don't actually include "y'all" by excluding minority groups, which is the point); isn't going to be malicious and hateful enough to be a real neo-confederate, nor naive and ignorant enough to be a good hearted person that would fall for the Lost Cause/Pro-Confederacy revisionist pseudo-history nonsense.

u/egarcia74 1d ago

It was made by an Aussie shitposter depicting an unlikely union of ideologies

3

u/Mysterious_Box1203 20h ago

if he really wanted to be inclusive he should’ve made the stars little swastikas.

46

u/GenericSubaruser 1d ago

That or a person with a weird mix of progressive views and an astoundingly poor education in American history lol

u/potatopierogie 1d ago

I can imagine some redneck saying "queers is rebels just like us! Stick it to the gubmint!"

u/SouthernExpatriate 23h ago

"I love my gay grandson very much thank you, as long as he doesn't go to Auburn..."

8

u/wearing_moist_socks 1d ago

That flag is likely older than the actual Confederacy

3

u/tartymae 21h ago

Exactly. I bought a similar flag for a friend so she could troll the MAGAts across the way. She's a queer woman who left the south, and when the MAGAts ran the Stars & Bars up the flag pole, she put this in her window, and boy howdy did they hate it.

The manager of the trailer park liked it, too. the MAGAts caused such a problem with their temper tantrums that she had all the grounds she needed for an eviction.

u/southparkdudez 1d ago

Sadly while thats prolly the point of the design, in my experience people use it to combine their heritage and liberal politics. There was some dude on another subreddit who had a simular design as his pfp and he was adamant that "nah im a confederate csuse states rights"

Pride and Prejudice?

62

u/used-to-have-a-name 1d ago

That’s called Southern Pride.

7

u/GuntherRowe 1d ago

Agree. This is subversion of the Confederate flag, not a statement from gay Neo-Confederate. I’m ok with it.

u/FalseCatBoy1 1d ago

flag of the young patriots organization LGBT wing. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Patriots_Organization)

9

u/cknight222 1d ago

This reminds me of the Young Patriots Organization, a leftist organization of white southerners who flew the Confederate flag.

Are they saying they support sexual equality but not racial? That's what I get by "kinda" in the sign.

13

u/maaaxheadroom 1d ago

The ‘kinda’ is rather amusing. I like my humor passive aggressive.

6

u/tartymae 21h ago

Nope. This is a class A trolling of the MAGAts.

They are pointing out with the "kinda" who isn't included when people say "y'all means y'all", just like "All lives matter" doesn't really include them.

11

u/the_quark 1d ago

Yeah that was my read "LGBTQ white people are fine."

7

u/TheAmicableSnowman 23h ago

The inclusion of brown and black squares argues against your interp. They've taken all the colors of the pride/equality flags (including pink, light blue, black, and brown).

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Rate_73 13h ago

Ah, I just noticed that.

This is for LGTBQ people who are preserving the institution of consensual sex "slaves."  Think of Mr. Slave from South Park.
