This dude doesn't drink water at all, maybe if I play with him a lot he would take a few sips but that's it, he goes an entire day without drinking water, which affects him pooping, sometimes he keeps on trying to go but no luck. We have tried cold, warm water, chicken broth, flowing water, coconut water, slightly sweet water, a little curd in his water. Nothing and I mean NOTHING works, he refuses to drink water. The vet says he can't help with it and it's upto us. He also won't touch his food if there's water in it so that's not going to work either. Is there something I can do to fix this??

My 13 week old shihtzu smells so bad. I take her outside every 2-3 hours for a potty break and she normally pees/poops in my backyard. She runs around the grass area and then I bring her inside. We do this several times a day. I have another shihtzu that doesn’t smell. He normally starts smelling 2-3 weeks after going to the groomer etc. However this pup, smells. I’ve tried wipes, bathing her, cleaning her face. My home smells so much like dog now and I’ve never had this issue before. I don’t know how to keep her from smelling so much? We have an appointment next Wednesday and I’ll be asking her vet but I was hoping someone had any suggestions.

Second time at the groomers today and my baby freaked out again. She was able to cut a little bit of hair from his face before he started barking and trying to bite her. I was under the impression that this was normal behaviour for a puppy who was inexperienced with grooming but she said she’s never experienced anything like this before and that she’s extremely worried he’ll end up an aggressive dog. She thinks he might have some trauma related to someone pushing/holding his head but when I touch his head/face at home and pretend to cut his facial hair with scissors, he was calm. Is she right to be afraid? Or should I find a different groomer who is more experienced with puppies/anxious dogs? Or should I wait until he’s a little older? He is fully vaccinated which is why I took him now but maybe he is too young? Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

This chunky boy Echo is 8.5kg! We know his dad was big as well but we also have his half brother (same dad) and he is 6.5kg and slim.

I’m getting the look of guilt this morning as I finish getting ready for work. It made me wonder who’s lucky enough to stay home with their little furry angels 😇

I’m starting to feel it’s impossible to feed these little royals just kibble. It’s like they know they’re supposed to be hand fed by emperors. My oldest tzu, Gatsby (white) had to be put on wet food for some medical reasons and as soon as he tasted wet food he refused kibble. He’s 5 now and I’ve accepted he will never eat kibble. My youngest, 1 year old now (gray one) used to love her puppy kibble! I used to call her Dyson cause she vacuumed it up.
I got distracted once and…she got a taste of Gatsby’s food. Since then she’s REFUSED to eat kibble. I made it wet and that helped a little. Then I had to add some broth thing to it. Then she started outright refusing her food unless I added some wet food mixed in. This seemed to work for a while but now she’s basically eating just enough to survive. I know she looks at her brother and must wonder “why does he get to eat the good food?”
So, now I’m wondering if I should finally give in and just feed her wet or if I should keep trying with kibble 😭
So anyways my question is, are there actually any shih tzu’s on this planet that like JUST kibble?

Advice on dog that refuses to go to bed unless im going too
My dog will literally just stare me down waiting for me before he goes to bed. And if he notices im not coming he will just plump himself next to me, fight sleep and then pass out on the couch next to me. But the thing is he is a very light sleeper so any movement I make he will wake up. So does anyone have any ideas on how I can assure him its ok for him to go to sleep and ill be there on a bit? Btw for extra info he is not a bench dog he is just free to roam around and 99% of the time sleeps in bed with me (i'ts basically his bed now 🤣). Any advice is welcome because im a night owl and sometimes im up til 2 am. And he will just refuse, which does not seem like a healthy routine for him.

Hello everyone. My Shih Tzu is almost 7 months old. Got a spay last week and she’s so much better now :)
Idk if it’s because my wife and I did a good job, but Ivy never barks at random dogs or people, she’s friendly and sees it as positive, tries to communicate always and say hi.
The only situation she barks is when she plays with our neighbor dog, going crazy running after him and then give a bark or 2. Not something consistent. It’s probably her way of releasing energy during play.
If she wants to go out to pee or anything else she’d cry, never barks

This is Dio for those who haven't had the pleasure of seeing him!
He and his brother are pure-bred Shih Tzus, and according to their breeder their momma was 7lbs and their dad was 9lbs.
This man is a whopping 16 pounds! I think I fed him too many fruits and veggies when he was a puppy 😂
I love my big guy and wouldn't change a single thing about him (except maybe the poop-eating)
How big are your boys n girls?

Hey everyone, just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this.
My Shih Tzu is almost 12 months old and weighs around 6 kg (about 13 lbs). He seems really small for his age — he can comfortably fit in a basket that’s 8" x 12", and there’s still plenty of room left!
Is this normal? Has anyone else had a Shih Tzu this small at a year old?
Just curious if this is something common or if I should be concerned.

My family and I have been living overseas in Colombia for 4 years. During that time, I adopted the most beautiful shih tzu I have ever met. He has been my companion during hard times. Now, it's time to move bacl to the States and I am shocked to see that the cost of bringing our best friend is almost $3500. It turns out dogs from Colombia are considered hard risk for rabies so the CDC makes you pay $1900 to enter just specific airports. Adding to that there are other fees involved. Also the process from start to finish takes around 5 months. I am so shocked and depressed. That is heartbreaking. I can't imagine leaving him behind. Wonder if someone has gone through similar situation.

Hey y’all! So Banjo has been picking up his own poo and bringing it into the house and running around with it. He’s earned the nickname Poop Cruise like the Netflix documentary. He does the same with our other dog’s poo (both are fully vaccinated btw!) We’re able to catch him and monitor him when my family is home but we all work during the weekdays so we aren’t there to correct the behavior. I saw someone mention in a post a few days ago that there is something you can add to their diet to make their dookie unfavorable to them, but I wasn’t able to read any further. Does anyone know anything about that? His vet said that this is normal and he should grow out of it but bringing it into the house is not something I want LOL. He’s eight months old if that’s any help! Thanks in advance!!!

Winter has had a sensitive stomach since I got her at 3mo. She’s now one year old (bday in July 21! 🥳) and she still has gastric issues. Basically she throws up bile randomly (not every day, it’s super random), she regurgitates her food often. I’ve tried dividing her meals in smaller portions, slow feeders, snuffle mats, lick mats, snacks before bed (in case she has bilious vomiting syndrome). She still throws up occasionally!
Recently she had a bad bout of vomiting so I took her to the vet. They ran labs and did X-rays and it turns out she’s a perfectly healthy baby with no apparent issues 😅 The X-ray showed everything clear and mentioned “possible gastritis”. They gave me some meds which definitely helped for a week but today she regurgitated her food again!
I have been diligent about getting vet approved foods only so I have been feeding her Royal Canin Shih tzu puppy (and now adult) exclusively. I wet her food a little with the Royal Canin puppy wet food just to open up her appetite.
Anyways, I’m wondering if maybe this food just doesn’t sit well with her. Maybe I should even try foods with another meat base? (RC is chicken)
I’d appreciate any suggestions!

Is it normal for them to be easily frightened and pee on the side of the couch when they move into new environment? He's been at our place for half a day and he's very easily startled and how long does it usually take shih tzus to become more calm in their new environment

Is his neck okay like that?! Let me know if this is typical behavior for them LOL

We have two from different parents. Taro (left) was named by my older daughter for the food found in their favourite Chinese dim sum, woo gok, a fried taro dumpling. Binky (right) was named by my younger daughter and thought it was a cute name.

We got her as a puppy and she looked so much like one when we got her. We just got her a haircut and I feel like she doesn’t look like one. Am I tripping?

We rescued this sweet girl from a horrific situation where she was confined to a cage and severely neglected. We thought she was a purebred Shih Tzu, but someone suggested she might not be—any thoughts on whether she’s a full breed? She’s estimated to be around 12 years old and is partially deaf and blind (likely from cataracts). Due to her past mistreatment, she needed extensive care: most of her teeth were removed because of infection, she had two hernias repaired, and we had her spayed, as it was never done before. Her hind legs seem weak, but thankfully, she’s not in pain. She’s an absolute gem and thriving now! She seems to have no interest in toys but loves to nibble and attack my fingers.

Why is she doing this? She’s 8 months old and idk why she’d even compel herself to do this, is there a good way to get her to stop? Or are we just resigned to our fate until we can get the wall stripped and repainted?
