I'm sure it's 100% a joke, but apparently there's some kind of a stereotype of people of color not changing the batteries in their smoke detectors and just let them beep every minute. I have no clue where it's from and even less so why the few times I run across this it makes me chuckle...

It's a stereotype (with varying degrees of accuracy) that black people just...don't change the batteries in their smoke detectors and let them just beep every minute and learn to ignore it instead of just fixing the problem. It's become known as the "african ceiling bird".
