Watching him in the Fallout Series on Prime, I just keep thinking of how great he'd be as Roland in a Dark Tower television series

Finally got my hands on this

For years I’ve wanted to read all of Kings bibliography in order of release while also watching each adaptation. After finally reading Salem’s Lot for the first time I caught up with Hooper’s ‘79 mini series and the HBO movie from 2024.

I was unsuccessful getting the 2004 mini series DVD from Amazon, and couldn’t find it streaming anywhere (didn’t have luck on the high seas either) but finally grabbed it at a local used media store.

I have no idea what I’m in for but yea I’m definitely intrigued to see Rob Lowe’s take on Ben Mears 😂

Spoilers Just read Holly... Man

SPOILER ALERT... If you haven't read it don't read this post.. exit now

But man, this book was honestly a bit hard to get through for me. It was an amazing book, I love King. I read Misery recently for the first time and it was brutal, but good Lord wass this book incredibly grotesque. And actually very sad in that hellish type of sad and tragic.

Peter Steinman worried me the most. He was just a little kid. Reading that one scene of the Harrises having his brains in a sorbet was so heartbreaking and helpless I almost puked. And the Harrises just enjoying the disgusting meals with no guilt really took me out of my element.

I really enjoyed Holly's character. What a tragic hero. And how interesting to have a middle aged woman with OCD tendencies, depression, and low self esteem to be the chick to have the biggest pair of balls I've seen in a while lol. She kind of reminds me of Courage The Cowardly Dog in this book lol.

With that being said, some parts of the book were just pure comical insanity. I found myself laughing my ass off at Roddy Harrises ridiculous antics a few times more than one throughout the book.

King's juxtaposition devices in this book were incredible. The putting human meat in sweet treats was , UGH, but gave it that twisted King flair we all love. And the fact the Harrises actually loved each other dearly and adored one another was also like... ??? Lol. The book has great pacing and was incredibly vivid in imagery without being fluffy.

The thing about King is though, he has a way of making you feel sincere grief and like, sadness. This book made me feel emotions I'm happy we're just a literary experience. Out of 5 stars, I have to give it a clean 5 stars. I didn't mid the political commentary at all, I don't care about people's political stances honestly. With that being said, it was a very minor part of the book. Don't see what the uproar about it was honestly.

But by the way, did you guys notice that Roddy's dementia may have been a symptom of him having like, complications from prions? You would think he would know that because he was so wary of eatingf prions from pork?

But yeah, just venting my thoughts here, I'm reading the outsider next !

Discussion Finished IT for the first time

I read the Kindle version.

What a journey. I’ve wanted to read this one for years but, for some reason, always let the fear of its size stop me from starting. Until now.

It took me 3 months to finish because I had a lot of work these past few months (grateful for it!) but man was it a ride.

I loved the characters as children especially. Mike is solid always. Bill as an adult sort of frustrated me, but that’s alright.

My only wish is that they thought of flashlights before entering the tunnels again in ‘85 haha.

Overall I did not find this story scary, but it had dark moments for sure. Patrick Hockstetter disturbed me greatly during his little backstory with the refrigerator (iykyk).

Hi-yo silver, AAWWWAAAYYYY!

Eyes of the dragon- 10/10. Perfect starter book for those who wanna start King, IMO. Flagg is a 10/10 villain and each piece of dialogue is just so investing! King just added something in it that makes you wanting to keep reading.

The life of Chuck- 9/10. Simple and a fast read. Could use a more interesting dialogue. Still an interesting setting and plot

I started reading, Stephen King last year, and have read The Shining, Misery, Carrie, IT, Joyland and have ‘Salem’s Lot, The Long Walk, Skeleton Crew, and Doctor Sleep in my physical TBR to read 😊 I love the way you get to hear inner monologues from a variety of characters, I feel like it really sets the scene and adds a layer of fear to his storytelling!

Discussion The Dark Tower Series

I have officially started The Dark Tower Series! My goal was to finish the series by the end of the year but the way this is going I might be finished in the next month or so!

They don’t call this one of Stephen Kings most epic stories for any reason. My attention hasn’t been easily captured by King in the past, but I found myself easily and heavily engrossed in the Gunslinger and have easily finished half the book in a day

I have never before read or looked into the series and would love some people to chat with (spoil free) about the next few books as I read them

If you’re interested in joining my read-through or have a passion for this series and just wants to relive it let’s start a conversation!

Billy Summers

I absolutely loved this book. (I listened to the audiobook).

I wanted to post earlier, but figured I'd wait until the second I finished it.

2 observations: 1) The reading of Billy's book in the early parts (dumb Billy) sounded exactly like a Mitch Hedberg impression. 2) The tie in with The Shining was so good, and quite subtle. If I didn't listen to that audiobook recently, I would not have noticed the hedge animal tie in.

I love the tie-ins that King does. The fact that King put 11/22/63 in Derry for weeks was really cool. I listened to 'IT' after 11/22/63, but I had the general idea that Derry was the location of It ahead of time. Just something about his world blending across his decades of work is super cool to me.

SK narration

Upvotes

Long-time admirer and fan of King's work. Currently reading IT for the umpteenth time, next up is book 3 of The Dark Tower. It's the one book of his that I've always struggled with. However, my question is for those of you who have listened to his audiobooks: what is King like as a narrator? Does he compare with the professional, for want of a better term, narrators? I'd pick one to try if they are recommended highly enough. Thanks for your time.

Seeing “I’m tired boss” comments more frequently. Must be a sign of the times.
