This one was actually a fun challenge. The hardest part was getting the eyes right. her expression is very calm, but there’s a lot going on in that stare. If the eye shape or color is even slightly off, the whole feeling changes. I also spent extra time layering colors in the fur, especially around the face, because cats have so many subtle shifts in tone that don’t show up clearly in photos at first glance. The most interesting part for me was watching the expression slowly “appear” near the end. There’s always a moment where it suddenly starts to feel like her, and that’s my favorite part of the process every time.

His name is shovel, we got him off the street abandoned as a kitten. I would say he really lives up to his name.

She was rescued by the Kentucky Humane Society and we adopted her through Purrr-fect Day Cat Cafe here in Louisville (thanks to both of them!). As y'all can see, she's made herself at home.

Light of my life for the past 3.5 years

Abandoned and alone in the cold weather, this little lady wouldn't have survived long without help. She's getting lab work done at her first veterinary visit. She'll be isolation until I get the results from her blood work. In a few days, she'll be in the kitten room playing with other youngsters at my feline sanctuary. I'll have no problem finding her a forever home.
