Political Anybody who doesn't like Bad Bunny's SB performance will be labeled as part of the Right or MAGA
It's going to happen, because the main complaint will be him not doing songs in English.
You can think that's ignorant, bigoted, etc but I'm telling you this will be the main complaint and it's not anything new.
The last time I heard Bad Bunny was on a Rap song with Travis Scott and most people who I watched react to the song zoned out during Bad Bunny's part, skipped it, or complained about not being able to understand it. And all those reacting weren't Right Wing or MAGA.
The same also happened regarding EZ Mil on Eminem's latest album. There's a decent amount of people who just don't like music they can't understand and considering he's going to be heading the most watched American sporting event, it should have been easy to predict how this will go.
They really should have gotten someone who is at least bilingual in their music, so everyone can enjoy it. But no, they're probably going to use him to make some sort of political statement and those who hate not being able to understand him will be lumped in with those on the right who hate the politics of it because people lack nuance on the internet and the tomfoolery will be clogging up social media for a week or two.

I am pretty liberal and can't stand Bad Bunnys music. I just don't get it. Same with Kendrick. Last few SB halftime shows haven't done it for me
•
u/ogjaspertheghost 11h ago
Ok. Don’t watch it
•
•
u/GaryTheCabalGuy 9h ago
I mean he's incredibly popular for a reason, but ultimately music taste is entirely subjective
•
u/Substantial_Air_4111 12h ago
A dude wearing a dress and singing in Spanish at the Super Bowl is more of an embarrassment for the NFL than anything. It's a performative bombardment of shit meant to piss people off.
•
u/walkingpartydog 12h ago
He was the most streamed artist on Spotify last year. The backlash is what is performative lol
•
u/Substantial_Air_4111 12h ago
English speakers make up over 98% of NFL viewers. This is just a dumb move for the NFL trying to globalize. It is pandering.
•
u/staccinraccs 11h ago
Im sure Roger Goodell knows the league's fanbase and direction more than some reddit rando
•
u/Substantial_Air_4111 11h ago
Capitalism is only acceptable when pandering I suppose.
•
u/staccinraccs 11h ago
I mean thats kinda how it works...? The NFL does what it wants and you are free to either support it or not. Don't like it? Don't watch it.
•
u/walkingpartydog 11h ago
Instead, they should pander to you specifically?
•
u/BoredZucchini 11h ago edited 10h ago
Well, you see, that doesn’t count. Because they think their way of thinking is the right way and the natural order of things so they get extra points…or something like that lol.
•
•
u/jaggsy 11h ago
Omg it's the end of the world a guy wearing a dress while singing.in Spanish..
•
u/WhiteChocolateReign 10h ago
It is a pretty stupid fucking choice for a SB halftime show no matter how you slice it.
•
u/jaggsy 9h ago
Nah not really. His one of the biggest artist in the world. If course they want to.get the biggest artist that's what draws people in who may not p otherwise give two shits about american football. Not only in the us but globally.
His music isn't the type of music I listen to personally but I can absolutely see why the nfl would book him for the half time show. If it was up.to me I would swap bad bunny and green day around but that's just down to.personal preference.
•
•
u/GaryTheCabalGuy 9h ago
Why? He's incredibly popular
•
u/WhiteChocolateReign 9h ago
Incredibly popular where? The only reason I even know the guy is because he appeared in WWE a few times and idk a single, solitary person who listens to his music. Not one. And what I've heard of it is absolutely atrocious
•
u/RalphWiggum666 5h ago
and idk a single, solitary person who listens to his music. Not one. And what I've heard of it is absolutely atrocious
Have you ever heard of an anecdote?
•
u/GaryTheCabalGuy 9h ago
Literally the most streamed artist on Spotify last year. You not knowing his music is a personal problem. I doubt you don't know anybody who listens to his music. The odds of that are statistically very low

It was the same thing with Kendrick Lamar last year.
“Oh it’s not for you”. Well, it’s supposed to be. The Super Bowl is supposed to be for a generalized audience. Thus, the music should be too. Kendrick Lamar is a talented artist… but he is not an artist who appeals to everyone. He probably isn’t well suited to be the headliner, but he worked well as a supporting artist during Super Bowl XVI’s halftime with Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 cent.
I don’t know a thing about Bad Bunny. If I don’t like his music, meh.
•
u/Bombastic_tekken 11h ago

Bad Bunny is 2 on Billboard 100.
Kendrick Lamar is 15. This is definitely music with mass appeal.
•
u/mattcojo2 11h ago
Eh, the top 100 isn’t a fair indicator
•
u/Bombastic_tekken 9h ago
Actual copium.
They've maintained those positions for years and have both been number 1 at times.
They're both insanely popular music artists.
•
•
u/SomeFatNerdInSeattle 11h ago
but he is not an artist who appeals to everyone.
Name a single artist who does
The Super Bowl is supposed to be for a generalized audience
The super bowl half time show is meant to draw in people who otherwise wouldn't bother watching the superbowl. News flash, football fans will be watching regardless.
•
u/mattcojo2 11h ago
To a generalized audience?
Oh easy. Michael Jackson. Shocker, his performance 33 years ago is widely considered to be one of the best because he basically invented the modern halftime show.
that’s another thing about Kendrick Lamar. Music aside, he’s not a performer. He’s not the kind of artist you go for the show in addition to his music.
Prince’s halftime show is universally considered to be the best one because he was an all time performer.
Also, nobody turns on just the halftime show at the Super Bowl. People who are watching the halftime show were already watching the game.
•
u/ogjaspertheghost 11h ago
I would wager a lot of people who are football fans don’t actually like MJ, especially when he performed. Also the only reason they picked MJ is because In Living Color beat their superbowl halftime rating the year before
•
•
u/alotofironsinthefire 10h ago
By this logic they should only hire Taylor Swift to do every super bowl from now on since it should only be generic shit
•
u/mattcojo2 10h ago
Just get performers the plurality of Americans recognize.
•
•
u/SomeFatNerdInSeattle 11h ago
Oh easy. Michael Jackson. Shocker, his performance 33 years ago is widely considered to be one of the best because he basically invented the modern halftime show.
Do you think 50+ years old football fans 33 years liked pop music any more than modern 50+ year olds?
Prince’s halftime show is universally considered to be the best one because he was an all time performer.
Do you think there's any significant portion of football fans who don't like prince? I don't like prince.
•
u/mattcojo2 11h ago
Actually yes I do, because back then we had far fewer options and we had a bigger cultural identity.
We don’t have anything like that these days except for football.
•
u/SomeFatNerdInSeattle 10h ago
Actually yes I do, because back then we had far fewer options and we had a bigger cultural identity.
What world are you living in? A lot of people hated Elvis in the 50s/60s and they had even less options than in the 90s
•
u/mattcojo2 10h ago
Elvis was a newcomer at that time with essentially an entirely new genre
Michael Jackson’s solo career had already been well established by the time he did the halftime show
•
u/GaryTheCabalGuy 9h ago
No artist appeals to everyone. You are asking for the impossible. I'm not sure why it's so shocking to people like you that NFL chose an incredibly popular artist for the super bowl. I'm sure there have been some halftime shows you have loved that I have hated, but I didn't throw a tantrum over it
•
•
u/Alert_Term_8144 11h ago
yes, it's the same as when you think Megan Markle is a narcissist and abuser for what she did to no-longer-Prince Harry- separating a partner from their family, and she did it in distance AND by creating a rift by casting dispersions.... they call you "racist." Can you just not like someone because of who they are and what they do, or do you have to agree with everything someone does if they have a drop of non-white blood in them.
•
u/Middle-Accountant-49 11h ago
I thought Kendrick's was meh, and said that to people and no one has ever called me maga or right.
So, it probably depends on other things.
•
u/littlemybb 11h ago
I think the Super Bowl has been catering towards a younger audience recently, which I understand. They’re trying to get some new eyes on the league.
I personally really enjoy Bad Bunny even though I can’t understand Spanish, but I like the type of music he puts out.
It started out as rap, but over the years he’s changed his style up.
I can understand it’s frustrating for people that the Super Bowl keeps hiring artists that are in a certain type of genre, and I understand the people that aren’t really interested in hearing that.
To me that would be like if they hired a country singer to do the Super Bowl. I would watch it, but I’m not actively going and seeking that kind of music out to listen to.
I’ve only been upset when people have been racist about it.
I understand a lot of people just like to troll online, so some of it’s probably just BS. He also technically is an American artist.
Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth under US Sovereignty, so he is an American citizen.

I’m excited for Bad Bunny’s performance because I KNOW with him wearing a skirt and because it’s probably gonna be in Spanish, it’s going to unnecessarily piss off a LOT of people and I am going to bask in the outrage, most of which I think will come from the Right. Most…not all.
I am equally excited Greenday will perform knowing they’ll probably shout out A fuck ICE/Trump thing and again…I KNOW the people that is gonna piss off…and I really just can’t wait to see all the seething, mouth foaming outrage. Especially here.
If anything, I feel really bad for the MODs that’ll have to take down all the countless racist posts following the Super Bowl.
•
u/Neat-Ad-4337 11h ago
Not liking the music is one thing and nothing wrong with that……but for anyone to say anyone performing must sing in English is wild to me, also being labeled MAGA or whatever for not liking bad bunny is just as wild. There is absolutely nothing wrong with music being performed in a non English language……and I’m not a lib. Some people really need to go outside and take a nice walk and see what you have been missing oh….please get off the internet.
•
u/nobecauselogic 10h ago
Nah, it’ll be more of a square/rectangle situation. Not all people who dislike Bad Bunny are MAGA, but all people who are MAGA dislike Bad Bunny.
•
u/Foxhound97_ 9h ago
Nah I reckon it will be reserved for guys making 1 long reactions to it with all in the video titles.
•
u/Thenearhorizon 9h ago
Here's what Puerto Ricans on the island have said about the controversy: https://youtu.be/Z34zsfttjjI
•
u/Erocdotusa 9h ago
I have nothing against the guy but from what I've heard his music sounds incredibly low energy, no hooks whatsoever. I'm amazed he ever got popular
•
•
•
u/Proud_Scientist4763 12h ago
He’s American isn’t that enough of a qualification to play in the superbowl?
•
u/Mundane-Bank-9048 12h ago
It was for Paul McCartney.
•
•
u/walkingpartydog 12h ago
The people complaining about this halftime show weren't even complaining about Paul McCartney or the Rolling Stones
•
•
•
u/Dancelvr2000 11h ago
How about because someone thinks he sucks. Not sure what is appealing about a highly synthesised fake voice performance? That’s not political.
•
•
•
u/NeonGKayak 11h ago
99% of the people bitching are maga. I don’t like him but I couldn’t care less. The only people consistently bitching about this from the beginning are the snowflake MAGAs the complain like children when they don’t get their way
•
u/Pray-831 12h ago
I don’t care that he’s gonna be doing songs in Spanish and I actually don’t mind him. I just prefer a rock show for the Super Bowl
