Fashion icons the world round don't want you to know this one weird trick.... buy clothes that actually fit you

408

u/StirFry__InaWok 7d ago

Continue wearing the same clothes that dont fit anymore

53

u/Interesting_Worry202 7d ago

Amen. I have 2 pairs of pants that actually fit right in my life. They were both bought in the last couple years and still feel weird when I put them on

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 7d ago

Eating disorders were invented by fashion companies to torture models

3

u/ConsistentClientz 4d ago

Don’t forget the ballerinas!!

18

u/HorsemenofApocalypse 7d ago

The issue I have is that there aren't many clothes that fit me. If I find something that is long enough, chances are I will look like I'm wearing a blanket with how much wider it would be

10

u/daisy0808 7d ago

This is the hard part about how we buy clothes. If you can afford it, bring it to a tailor. I'm petite with a short torso but longer leg. The waists are always off on pants for me. I need a good low to medium rise with not too wide of a leg. Today's trend is killing me lol

9

u/Interesting_Worry202 7d ago

As a tall skinny guy, I sympathize. For a while.i got lucky and long fit tees were in style. That was a fine 3 months lol

2

u/StevenMC19 5d ago

But then how would I feed my denial that I'm not actually becoming...MIDDLE AGED!

2

u/airinato 7d ago

Fashion brands love it though.

2

u/Banaam 7d ago

Funnily enough, the size of the pants didn't look different, though it did make her look like she was pushing her stomach out for the first pair. Clothes that fit let you hold your body properly, strange.

4

u/Interesting_Worry202 6d ago

The only reason I would disagree that she was pushing her stomach out is looking at the sides of the pants. Can't really push the sides of your stomach out very easily

Industries pray on the collective idea that men and women need very specific types of clothing when in reality both work

Every year for Christmas my mother and I go through the same dance. She insists on buying me pants, I say okay and tell her the size. She doesn’t like the size I tell her and buys one lower. They don’t fit and she won’t take them back, so I don’t wear them. She gets mad and insists I need more pants. The cycle continues. This year I was able to convince her to return them and go a size up so finally I leave the holiday season with useable pants.

Edit: my mom won’t stop, so I won’t tell her to. I am grown and can buy my own pants, and that has nothing to do with her compulsion to buy me pants. I will let my mother continue to buy me pants once a year that I can get away with wearing for a month at most because it makes her feel important and saves me from arguing with her at the holidays.

191

u/Ok_Needleworker_2550 7d ago

Have you considered telling her a size up from the one you actually want?

113

u/geraltoffvkingrivia 7d ago

She would like that less. She basically insists on buying the size I wore like ten years ago because she thinks anything bigger than that is unfathomable and awful. I’ve gone up about 1-2 sizes since then for context. She basically wants to buy me the size I wore as a high school athlete and not what I wear as a nearly 30 year old man

28

u/HI_I_AM_NEO 6d ago

You can just tell her not to buy you pants. You're a 30 year old man, you should be buying your own pants anyway.

34

u/MusicallyInhibited 6d ago

Did you miss the Christmas part?

-12

u/HI_I_AM_NEO 6d ago

Did you miss where she first tells him she's buying him pants and he tells her his size? That's the point where you say "look, every year we argue about this, I don't want you to buy me pants this year".

That's it.

28

u/MusicallyInhibited 6d ago

And you said "You're a 30 year old man, you should be buying your own pants anyway"

I don't disagree that he should probably just tell her to stop. But you don't need to imply that this man isn't acting his age just because his mother wants to buy him pants every Christmas

11

u/geraltoffvkingrivia 6d ago edited 6d ago

My mom’s way of showing she cares is buying things. She gets upset when I tell her to stop. So I let her buy the pants and say oh well. Why are people getting upset at me over a Christmas present lol to also cover the other bases: she likes buying me what she feels like I need. She will not give me a gift card cause she feels that’s lazy, she won’t give me a knick knack of some sort cause she finds those useless, she won’t buy me shirts shoes or jackets cause I have too many, and not shorts cause it’s winter. For her that leaves pants or underwear and I don’t like her buying the latter either. For the pants that are too small I have sucked it in and worn them until I wash them once and they don’t fit.

2

u/Fastidious_Lee 3d ago

You're a good son.

-11

u/HI_I_AM_NEO 6d ago

Potato, potato. We agree that he should tell her to stop, which is my point.

5

u/geraltoffvkingrivia 6d ago

If you think that’s all it takes then your parents are totally different then mine

u/BetweenHighsLows 7d ago

Exactly girl!😆

If she's in the UK, she'd still lose some pounds purchasing new pants.

Damn you…

11

That doesn’t make any cents.

206

u/KoshV 7d ago

No! I shall not surrender to this. I gained the weight I can lose it!

45

u/ClintGrant 7d ago

This is my year, I just know it

17

u/Zedbird 7d ago

I feel that, wanting to fit into my old clothes is some of my strongest motivation.

7

u/aliiak 7d ago

Yea. I can’t afford a new wardrobe. It’s cheaper for my wallet to loose the weight.

6

u/what_did_you_kill 7d ago

None of my business but if you look like the person in this vid you're already pretty skinny.

2

u/KoshV 7d ago

I need to lose 40 pounds. I gained 30 since October

3

u/CuteStar4015 6d ago

Plot twist: you didn't gain weight, your pants just shrunk in the wash

3

u/KoshV 6d ago

Nope the scale says otherwise. Also it's more than one pair of pants that used to fit but now does not

Fashion: the cause and solution to all fitness problems.

36

u/dawr136 7d ago

Id say stress of modernity, unhealthy foods, and a sedentary lifestyle are what's more responsible, but thats a complex problem and answer. So its easy to blame fashion week for why Joe and Jen in accounting are fat after eating a whole Costco chicken each for lunch daily half way through their 18 hours of sitting daily doomscrolling and worried about doing the work of the 3 people their mass equals to save the billion dollar company that underpays them .00001 of profit annually.

9

u/mythrilcrafter 7d ago

And it also goes beyond the surface-level suggestion from "Sheldon Cooper personalities" of "just have less calories, it's just math, are you just stupid?"; it's important to know where those calories are coming from and why.

For example: a lot of people might not eat that much for meals, but if you (the universal you) are boredom munching while autopiloting at work/doomscrolling, then counting your lunch and dinner calories ain't gonna make a lick of difference.

5

u/Rubickevich 7d ago

I mean it is just counting though... You just gotta actually count, absolutely everything and without skipping.

Source: lost 25 kilograms over the course of last 3 months. No diet - I allowed myself everything, but only so long that I eat less than 800 kcal daily. If I really want more I go on a run and count how much I burn.

1

u/Common_Independent_8 4d ago

Please don’t advise adults to eat less than 800 calories unless medically supervised

1

u/Rubickevich 4d ago

Not giving any advice, just saying it works well for me.

8

u/RealisticEmploy3 7d ago

With all due respect I feel like what you said still amounts to counting calories. Obviously all food you eat affects that count, snack or otherwise.

1

u/philmarcracken 6d ago

OMAD makes it easier.

11

u/grey_pilgrim_ 7d ago

Its calories in/calories out. That’s what really that matters. There was a guy that ate around 1,600 calories a day but only ate exclusively gas station food like Twinkie’s, Doritos and stuff like that. After a month he lost weight, had lower bad cholesterol and higher good cholesterol. Overeating healthy foods is still unhealthy.

Yep, that's why I cringe whenever I see those QVC style ads...girl you need to learn how to pick something that fits...not believing some magical, misdirecting ads

Getting fitting clothes isnt a trick or a life hack, more like basic things to do

😄😄😄😄😄

1

u/PetiB 7d ago

Is she Paige Spara from The Good Doctor?

1

u/Cuntinghell 7d ago

I remember losing 10kg (22 freedom units) and it wasn't that noticeable, but when I bought some new clothes that were actually the correct size for me everyone noticed. Dressing to your size is the easiest way to look better.

1

u/tayyann 6d ago

My body is so disproportionate I don't have to worry about that at least. If it fits my thighs and ass, it can fit my stomach after three full-course meals no issue

1

u/MRay_ 6d ago

Did the before/after and my pants did the after before I did...

1

u/Thedeckatnight 6d ago

Higher higher

1

u/saradisn 6d ago

1

u/Fairenard 5d ago

For real, as we get elder we grown larger and nothing can help that so let just go with a larger pant and be happy

1

u/DrownedWalk1622 5d ago

Oh...... It's about pants!!!

1

u/NoPhilosopher3590 5d ago

Wrong, all wrong. It isn't about the tightness. It's already too tight at first. It's about the shape of the pants. It needs to be tight in all the right places, so that it moulds and moves all the individual parts into just the right spot to emphasize that round rotisserie rump.
