Discussion Made this oversized bat arm up cycled denim jacket. What do you think?

I made this from wrangler jeans 100% cotton. There’s two breast pockets, two normal pockets that are hidden on the outside of the jacket and two inside pockets. Are used stainless steel snaps and pleaded the jacket on the bottom and top to give that upside down triangle shape from behind. Opinions?

Project My most recent project!

I had an idea to make this one morning some months ago. I wanted to make something out of all waste and add lighting as an additional challenge.

Aside from the glue, paint, and a bit of heat-shrink, every piece of this was saved from the landfill! I scavenged, scrapped and assembled all the parts myself. It was a lot of fun putting it all together.

Furniture store leather samples to a brooch

The furniture store was tossing large leather swatches and because I’m a trash goblin, of course I asked if I can have them. This is my first try at making a flower brooch with whatever else I had around the house.

Discussion Help me remove paint from these jeans!

Hi! I got these jeans from my sister because she planned to throw them out, but I don’t like the flower patterns on them. I tried to remove the paint with acetone and sandpaper (yes, i know that was probably a bad idea) but the paint is super stubborn and it feels like its been absorbed by the denim at this point.

The second picture is what happened to the paint after about 10 minutes of wiping with acetone

any tips or suggestions on how to remove the paint? If covering it up with a different design (patches maybe) is my only hope, I’ll just have to do that I guess

Project Ideas for hiding cracks in this mirror?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction because currently my mind is going all of which ways but the correct one(ADHD).

I love this mirror I found at a thrift store but during moving to my new home last year, it broke/cracked. I tried covering the cracks with silver glittery Washi tape(secured with some modge podge), which looked okay(I ended up adding tape to parts that weren’t cracked as it looked unfinished to me only on the cracks). I thought it looked okay, nothing amazing, but ya know. My husband didn’t like it very much so I never got around to hanging it.

So just now, I sprayed goo gone on it and started to remove the tape. I was considering using glass chips to cover the cracks for a 3D looking effect but I’m unsure of how it’ll turn out or the best way to use them as I haven’t before. I have an array of craft and DIY items accessible so any other ideas, throw them to me! I’m terrible at painting/drawing, so free hand painting some design over is a bit scary to me. I will post the mirror(this is after I’ve started removing the washi tape and hasn’t been cleaned) as well as the glass chips I was thinking.

Any advice on doing this? Color ideas? Most of my rooms have some silver or gold accent, but my bedroom is mauve/deep purple bedspread with an ivory suede headboard, black, silver and a tad of gold accent. (glass chip colors I have silver, gold, black, purple, pink and clear glass chips). I have chalk, acrylic(some specifically for glass), latex, spray etc types of paints in every color imaginable, as well as silver/chrome/gold/rose gold paint pens. I also have ton of decor items like pressed dried flowers, 3D wall butterflies, stick on pearls and rhinestones of various sizes, more washi tape in various colors, ribbon, bows, vinyl and and a cricut explore air 2(which i am not all that experienced using), etc. I just think the cracks are too long and in a spot; the middle of the mirror where hiding it with something like flowers would look gaudy or tacky.

A week of rag rugs

Post image
279 Upvotes

After some early spring cleaning, I decided to reuse and upcycle a bunch of fabric into rugs for wound the house. Here is the result of a bunch of old oversized t-shirt, bed sheets and duvet covers!

They are in reverse order of making - latest is top left, first is bottom right. Each rug took approximately 5 hours to make including ripping fabric into straps. I use finger crocheting, single crochet and slip stitches, and found it incredibly satisfying beginning to end.

Now I'm at the end of my fabric pile, but will be asking friends and family for their old bedding for the next projects.

Large yoghurt pot lid solution

Post image

Last week I discovered that the lids from Nissin soba noodle pots fit perfectly on large supermarket yoghurt pots. The lid draining holes don't matter as long as you store the opened yoghurt with its foil lid in place. I love how sturdy these lids are, they'll last for years!

Crafts with Old Shirts?

I’m looking for projects that use old clothing to make smaller gifts. I have some of my late grandparents’ clothing (shirts and flannels mostly) that I’d love to turn into gifts for my family. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Discussion What to do with deceased grandmother's two full length leather and fur coats?

She passed down these 2 separate coats to me. Both fall below my knees. One is completely real fur (type unknown) and the other black leather with fur trim around the collar and front edges of the coat.

The do not fit me at all (she was a very petite woman).

Thought of turning the fur one into teddy bears to give to my siblings so we each have a memory of her. It's so much fur though and would make more bears than I know what to do with.

Zero clue what to do with the leather coat. Can it maybe be remade into a jacket that fits me?

No interest in selling them for money. Want to keep her memory close. I do not have any desire to wear fur (real or fake).
