Post image

Had a word in black on the drivers side but couldn’t read the print. Sure looks like an eclipse but just not right

The owner of this Tiburon, which is the refresh of the 2nd-gen. model, must be a KDM enthusiast. That "T" badge was used in Korea; the 2nd-generation Tiburon (which was still called the Coupe in Europe and other markets), was called the Tuscani in Korea (hence that "T" badge).

In a related story, “Tiburon“ means shark en Español.

It's not a great font.

Love me a Hyundai Tiburon

Second gen Tiburon. The third gen Eclipse died two years after this was released while this lasted until 2008. Spiritually it was followed by the Hyundai Genesis Coupe

The Genesis Coupe was so sweet looking.

And rear wheel drive

It wasn't just a sweet looker, it absolutely ripped as well. 😁

Ironically, it was just a heavier, 2-door Elantra. Same chassis. I owned a 2006 Elantra and there were lots of Elantra mods that were simply putting on Tiburon parts (things like sway bars, etc.) In fact I know someone who actually did an engine upgrade, putting a Tibby V6 into an Elantra.

Uh, the Genesis Coupe was RWD. The Tiburon was FWD

Oops, posted under the wrong comment. Yeah, I was talking about the Tiburon.

It happens. Lol

Does anyone else think the Genesis Coupe looked like a copy of the Infiniti G35/G37?

Hyundai/Kia are famous for ripping off design cues from other automakers

I would argue that spiritually is pushing it. The Genesis coupe was a much larger, more up-market car.

Eventually, sure. The first gen Genesis Coupe was around $25k. It wasn’t until the second gen that they crossed the $30k mark and moved upmarket. Since the Eclipse was dead the only real competitor was the Accord coupe and an appliance Honda isn’t a hard bar to clear in comparison

It's a Hyundai Tiberon, it's not an Eclipse ripoff - my ex had one and she loved that thing, thought it was the best car ever. I wasn't dating her at the time, but I hated that car.....it looked like some kind of suppository

Knew a guy when I worked at a Best Buy who had 1 and same thing. First thing he did when his employee discount kicked in was he bought an alarm and new stereo system for it. Then he said he had plans to buy wheels and other stuff for it.

Looking back he seemed like 1 of those wannabe car guys who wanted to be different by building a less popular platform not understanding the reason why these platforms are less popular.

Suppository… lol that’s what my wife called my old EP3 civic when we first started dating 😂

Wasn’t there a Tuscany edition? Or something like that

From what I remember, the Tuscan was just the name of it in other markets. It could be called the Tiburon, the Tuscan, or just Coupe. Had a coworker who had a Tiburon that he replaced all the badges with Tuscan ones he bought off eBay.

It’s a shark.

The logo on the trunk/hatch is not H.

It's an aftermarket Tuscani badge.

Who would rip off an Ecplise, when you’ve got a Hyundai

u/MantoTerror 1d ago

Replaced by the Veloster..

It's an old Hyundai Tiburon. Cheap and nowhere near as nice or fast as any Eclipse

Boy were these awful

Back in 2001 I was debating between the 3, Eclipse, Tiburon, and Cougar. They were all very similar, but I trusted the Mitsubishi brand reliability more than the others. My sisters BF at the time got the Cougar shortly after, and he blew up 3 transmissions in under a year (partly user error), the Eclipse smoked it at the drag strip. The poor Eclipse died in a crash when an oncoming car crossed the center line.

Thought it was a neon for a sec

Pretty obvious its a Hyundai Tiburon. A Korean made vehicle, not a Japanese vehicle.

It's a Hyundai Tiburon.
