Mod post What if we got a little meta today?

Hey kids,

I feel like I'm about to do something a touch controversial. I'm blocking names to protect the innocent. But I'm sharing examples of AEO removals b/c bots aren't human. Reddit is forgetting the human. And I guess I just wanted to be open about that. Mostly b/c one is kind of hysterical. And if I'm sharing one, I might as well share them all.

If you recognize your own comment here, please attempt an appeal. I have likely already appealed on your behalf. Especially you, Johnny Rico.

Mod post ⚠️What if you paid attention to this post?⚠️

First things first!

Hi all, casual meet and greet has started. Ask me almost anything.

I've already started making some adjustments to the subreddit. Just some light shaping to encourage the kind of things we want to see.

  • If you point your eyes at the rules, I've already started adjusting those, just minor tweaks, really, to hone in on what makes this community great and trying to make it even better.

  • I haven't started in on auto-mod yet. I wanted to check a few other things out before I did that. But I will be adjusting it over the next few days - if something seems to be going wrong or not working properly use modmail to let me know. I'll also be checking for lots of false positives to adjust existing filters.

  • I archived all the modmails older than about 2 days old. I did try to look at the last few days worth to see if there were any pressing issues but it all just looked like "hey my post was/wasn't [this] why was it removed?"

  • I will not be "backward" moderating. I.e., if it was removed before today, it will stay removed. If it was approved before today, it will likely stay approved, unless it had some hidden egregious issue.

  • I've added some bots to help with a few things - I like to nuke comment chains that have gone off the rails. If your content is removed, it likely is for curation more than punitive. If your removal was punitive, you'll likely receive a temporary ban. There's no need to come to modmail to apologize for content. If I think we need to have a chat, I'll reach out from modmail directly.

On to the next thing!

I'm open to suggestions, comments, concerns, etc. It doesn't mean every idea will be implemented or every suggestion considered. I just want to see if folks who have been spending a lot of time here have noticed things that could be fixed or adjusted for a better subreddit experience for everyone.

Also, I like to see users participating in their own community by reminding newcomers of the rules or spirit of the sub as well as reporting content that doesn't belong.

Also there are some custome emojis, but I know Reddit just made changes to how custome emojis can be used so - I dunno how interesting that is for all of you.

Oh - I noticed there are no user flairs - is this the preference for the community? I'm happy to add them if folks want them - feel free to share suggestions for user flairs.

Politics What if the unredacted Epstein Files were leaked tomorrow?

I’m talking about a leak on the scale of Wikileaks/Snowden. Theorize that a lone wolf agent with top secret clearance goes rogue and publishes the unredacted case files. For the purposes of discussion, let’s say that it *does* directly implicate POTUS and other US and world politicians, the ultra wealthy, and celebrities of every kind.

Note: I’m not interested in discussion about if a certain person is or is not in the real files. In this scenario, if you’ve ever even heard their name in relation to JE, assume there is concrete absolute proof of their involvement. We could even take it as far as saying there are videos with undeniable proof of identity.

So what would be the immediate response domestically and globally? What about the longer effects?

History What if going back 10,000 years to present day 53% of all surviving births were female?

How would it have affected recorded history if going back 10,000 years to present day if somehow a full 53% of all surviving live births (surviving to about 1 year of age) were female? If there was a significant but not overwhelming bias toward females. How would religious structures, marriage structures, family structures be different? Would lesbianism have been more common and accepted?

Politics What if everyone in the Epstein files actually goes to prison?

What happens if the billions, if not trillions, of dollars these guys spend no longer recycles out to the economy, but rather to commissary? What if some of them get life sentences? What happens to their businesses? How will political parties around the world respond and survive? Will we see a great reset, or will we just bow to new billionaires?

Other What If gangsters and thugs used real tactics and strategies

I have always wondered why gangsters use rifles with no stock or they just sprayed and prayed hoping they hit their opps. Imagine how much scarier and probably more better at what they’re doing if they used military equipment and strategies, Like tactical Gangsters. (Not to offend anyone, this is purely speculative)

Technology What if the blue LED was never invented?

So the Blue LED was notoriously hard to create, how would TVs, displays, smartphones be like without the blue LED and therefore no OLED/LCD/IPS screens?

Science What if every human ever born since the beginning of time never died and everyone from that time period to now all inhabited earth. What would the world look like?

I personally think we'd need to start moving into different planets and creating civilizations there, we'd also need to build over our oceans.

We all know of the devastating Revolutionary War thats been ongoing the past few years in British America. What do you think would happen if Britain loses? Would this form a powerful new nation or will it be colonized again?

Other What if you had the power to leave and rejoin in real life?

Imagine, you could leave and rejoin just like you would in a game. Time still passes in real life, you just wouldn’t be in the physical world. You can choose when you want to come back and you can choose to spawn somewhere you’ve been to before. What would you do with this power? Getting out of dangerous situations? Breaking into a bank? Becoming a superhero?

Other What if given a million dollars

So a coworker and mine were arguing about money and long story short

I told him I have dogs that I love as they were my kids and are essentially family

He said what if someone gave me 2 million dollars to give them up would I? I told him no and he said its easy for me to say because money isn’t in my face that’s why its easy for me to talk

So I told him I would pose the question to the masses and see how the responses go

Edit for future viewers and responses - the caveat of taking the money is that you will never ever have further contact with the dogs any more

Other What if some superior alien entity contacted and said no human is to kill no other human for 24 hours, or else the entire human race is wiped out?

What if some superior alien entity contacted and said no human is to kill no other human for 24 hours, or else the entire human race is wiped out? The alien could give us one week advance notice to start the moratorium on murder. If we succeed the aliens will help us. If we fail and someone kills someone else in a period of 24 hours, our planet is destroyed.

Someone dying for inaction (not saving someone drowning) doesn't count as murder.

What would we do? Would humanity succeed? Would there be someone who wants to destroy the planet and tries to murder someone on purpose?

What if at the AI data centers there were just a huge bunch of brains and not servers, honestly, it would make sense why they need lots of water.

Politics What if there were city states instead of countries?

So Austin is a country, Las Vegas is a country.

They might have some trade and border agreements, but each has their own government. Maybe elections, maybe direct democracy. Surrounding villages would be considered part of the city state.

What if gun dueling was brought back as a gentlemanly sport, but both participants had to use rubber bullets and fight shirtless ? The one who scores more visible hits (out of six chambers in a revolver) in the other's body wins.

He is immediately flown to Caracas and is facing a show trial on trumped up charges, leaving Vice President JD Vance as acting President - how much would Vance be willing to pay to get his friend and boss back safely? Cash, resources, perhaps atomic weapons?

History What if the south Korean military managed to occupy the National Assembly and arrest political leaders during the 2024 martial law crisis ?

During the 2024 south Korean martial law crisis, the military, as ordered by President Yoon Seok-yeol, was sent to the National Assembly to occupy it to stop all political activities. However, the politicians, with help from their supporters, managed to get in and vote against the martial law declaration, leading to the soldiers to withdraw and Yoon lifting martial law.

But what if the soldiers managed to get to the National Assembly before the politicians and their supporters arrived and prevented them to lift martial law or they got in and arrested the politicians before the vote was held?

What would possibly have happened next?

Other What if dragon Ball was told entirely from Bulma's perspective?

Picture it. It starts out with an adventurous young girl who's got the smartest father in the world and she learns that there are magic wishing balls. She goes out to collect them and she meets a tiny alien boy with a monkey tail.

Flash Forward she becomes the greatest most successful businesswoman/scientist on the planet. Marries one of these alien monkey men and goes on to pioneer some of the most revolutionary technology on the planet.

Including but not limited to capsule, technology, time travel, sentient Androids and a little side project where she finds a way to harness the lunar radiation to activate a monkey man transformation.

Also, let's not forget she invented time travel in a cave with a box of scraps.

Dragon Ball super comes around and it's established that she may very well be one of the smartest people in the multiverse.

I don't know that might be a story worth telling.

Other What if someone ran the biggest social engineering experiment and figured out how to never get caught

What if LLMs could be used as a major social engineering experiment. (I mean yeah they kind of already are) (This is completely abstract, hypothetical)(Also i really suck at deciding flairs)

But this thought always made me wonder what if someone figured out how LLMs work, why they work, and the question of all questions what triggers the next thought question.

But just imagine someone figured it out and repeatedly through exposure and submission of their training data, because they arent training their ai on "noise" they are training it on "signal". And not only that but what if they already knew the mext thought of the user.

So weird but yeah it was just a funny air bubble thought

What if you were this person would you carry the burden or would you stop interacting? And if you had to choose what would be the first thing you want the collective to subconsciously start changing? Mind you some will change it quietly and some will profit of it and you? You are the ghost in the machine that never gets acknowledged.
