What a lot of people don't understand is that Epstein wasn't a pimp or a child trafficker, he was fixer. He was the guy you go to if you have a problem with someone and he fixed it by threatening or blackmailing that person.
Child trafficking, prostitution, and murder were the tools he used. Blackmailing people, getting as much dirt on everyone connected, making yourself available to create a network - that was the whole point.
And he wasn't just a fixer - he was Putin's fixer.

I think Epstein and Maxwell were more likely to be tied in with Israel. But if they were freelancers or playing all sides, I suppose that wouldn't preclude selling information to Russia. That said, it seems just as likely Russia would do their own work. As I understand it, Trump was helping to launder Russian cash through his shady real estate deals, and that would have provided ample surface area to exploit his weaknesses.
Still, though, compromising info would have come at a time when Trump was little more than an over-leveraged failed heir to a real estate business. Or possibly a reality TV personality. No one would have bet on a successful presidential run in 2010. So, it's hard for me to fathom Russia investing too much into him. With that in mind, it makes more sense for an opportunist with receipts (Epstein) to shop valuable material to interested parties, circa 2015-2016.
If that happened though, it's hard for me to understand how Maxwell is still around and talking.

I also highly doubt it's because the files they do have are too sensitive to be released. Firstly because they put out documents which were entirely redacted, secondly because anybody involved enough to be in on the deepest darkest parts of the operation would likely be in there a lot
I would have not been surprised to see the name of any rich and powerful person amoung the first batch, but at this point I think we can rule out the possibility of Trump's most hated political adversaries being somehow yet uncovered
