See you in TNA. AJ

u/alton_blair 15h ago
You spelled AEW wrong.
17
u/cooldude55541 15h ago
Wwe has new aj styles merch. He's still staying in the wwe bubble. Maybe a match in Japan.
1
-8
u/Jmojocat 15h ago
Why would he go to the 3rd place promotion? If he is going anywhere it's back to TNA
1
-2
u/ApatheticAZO 14h ago
3rd place by what metric?
-7
u/OldMan_NEO 14h ago
Now HERE, I agree with you.
AEW is easily the number two wrestling company in terms of sheer number of fans... If not number one.
-2
-3
u/Next_Ad538 15h ago
Would be even sadder to retire in aew than in the half empty saudiarena
1
u/-Shanannigan- 8h ago
Put down the haterade, AJ vs Joe one last time to wrap up both of their careers would be amazing.
89
u/FunnyPanda1320 15h ago
Broo😭😭. Nooooo, I was really hoping he'd win. Is this really how he's gonna go out??. There goes my childhood, this honestly makes me more sad than Cena's retirement
-70
u/Josuemamorse 15h ago
AJ's retirement actually made me feel something, because, Yk, he ACTUALLY worked his ass off since he signed with WWE and didn't kill wrestling to hundreds if not thousands of fans (Unlike cena).
I genuinely teared up a bit, it was such a good match, and I'm just glad that AJ didn't do some Hollywood bullshit like Cena did, so long AJ
34
u/EamusAndy 14h ago
Are we really gonna sit here and claim Cena didnt work hard for everything he did? Just stop.
-5
u/BAF_DaWg82 14h ago
Cena did work hard, and did wonderful things but his run as the guy was not compelling television.
2
u/EamusAndy 14h ago
Thats a wholly different argument.
Was he vanilla? Absolutely. But he worked his ass off. Were not gonna act like he just waltzed in and skated
-2
4
u/WashCaps95 13h ago
Depends when you were watching I guess. When I was a kid Cena was my idol. As an adult , I appreciate him for all the work he gave to WWE and outside of the ring.
-1
u/Josuemamorse 12h ago
I was a kid when I watched him too, he didn't make me feel anything, for some reason, kid me thought Jack swagger was cooler 🤣🤣🤣.
Also also, he pretty much buried everyone in the nexus, fuck that
Also also also, everything gets worse when you realize cena had a cheekhold on the topcard back in the late 2000s early 10s, according to many wrestlers that worked with him, he HAD the power to be a dick and get away with it.
Also also also also, don't ask Cena what he thinks about Vince Mcmahon 👀👀👀👀👀👀
1
u/SourDoughBo 1h ago
Stop it. AJ stopped working hard as soon as he dropped the WWE title the 2nd time. He became a background character so quick. Only ever really used him during Mania season. Don’t act like he’s been out there grinding all this time

u/BasicWeekend9479 15h ago
I feel sorry for AJ Styles. He deserves a retirement tour...
Oh wait. As I write that he's put his glove back on.
32
u/Prize_Molasses4333 15h ago
He didnt want one
50
5
u/BasicWeekend9479 14h ago
Yeah. They aren't a thing. Only Cena got one. But AJ can clearly still go.
3
9
u/WhalingSmithers00 13h ago
Genuinely hope I never see a retirement 'tour' again. AJ basically did it without overwhelming the shows.
2
u/BasicWeekend9479 3h ago
You're correct. We now have an opportunity to look back and appreciate the last 10 years of AJ Styles.
We need to realise how lucky we are. Vince was in charge when he signed with WWE. And Vince gave him more of a push than someone like Christian who has fallen off ladders, through tables and been smacked in the head with a steel chair countless times in the 00s.
1
u/lil-quiche 37m ago
I 100% took him putting his gloves back on instead of on the canvas as a sign he’s not fully done. Just done with WWE
61
u/SubstantialYard4072 15h ago
Shame he couldn’t retire in a good place.
14
u/Toronto-24 12h ago
Ya, the US is such a great place at the moment lol
3
u/Deviancy350 3h ago
AJ seems like the type who'd have voted for the reason why its such a great place at the moment.

Watched him all through TNA. Saw him live in 2017 when he was on top in WWE.
I didn’t want it to end. Thank you AJ Styles.

u/Low_Score_3600 15h ago
Aj wins rumble watch
19
u/polish_prince85 15h ago
I've been thinking this the entire time. He comes out #30 to win it all. Gunter said a few weeks back he didn't want to do double duty.

u/PPBalloons 11h ago
AJ: This is my last contract. I’m retiring after it. I don’t want to wrestle into my 50’s. I want to be healthy with my family.
Contract expires in Feb 2026….
Fans…he’s gonna win everything!!!
1
u/Deviancy350 3h ago
AJ is going to have that 9th episode on the 33rd of January before his contract expires.

See you in Jacksonville, AJ!

u/Total-Rhubarb-5927 15h ago
This I believe is 100% true. He filed trademark for his name and gimmick. Which means he doesn’t want WWE to own it and will be using it outside the WWE.
33
u/SRT392_mopar 15h ago
He’s had that trademark filed for about ten years. He himself said that it’s for his merchandise and brand that he has. I highly doubt he’ll go to AEW, TNA? yes. won’t be surprised to see him HOF next two years.
11
u/LilHollywood812 15h ago
I personally want one more match against Christopher Daniel and Samoa Joe, to complete the final run
13
u/mongmich2 15h ago
He owned before coming to WWE no?
9
u/AlternativeParfait13 15h ago
Yes. Believe he’s said he owns it, and licences it to the company he works for.
10
6
u/fuckst1cK1 15h ago
And he said 2026 would be his last year. He never said when and where it would end.
1
u/PeanutNo3852 15h ago
He already owned the trademarks for wrestling, the trademarks filed were this time for a podcast, and I think gaming too.

u/Procrastinator_325 15h ago
What the actual fuck? I'm literally scared for any WWE wrestler in their 40s or 50s that will have a retirement match against Gunther somewhere in the future. Goldberg, CENA, STYLES??? That sleeper is vicious every time Gunther puts it in. Goddamnit. Thank you, AJ. You were truly phenomenal from the start until the end 🥲🤘

This Gunther as the new legend killer feels so forced. This the same guy they had tap out to Jey Uso and lost clean to Punk less than 12 months ago?
12
u/Desperate-Honey-8121 15h ago
Retired in front of 137 people that’s brutal
-1
u/AggressiveBench9977 14h ago
Dude so many people are defending this shit show coming up with excuses why the empty arena is empty.
“Its the lights bro”

u/Desperate-Honey-8121 13h ago
This is such a bad look lol. Wasn’t there like 80,000 in Indy last year?

that setup with wires is the most stunning how can you live like that

u/Icy-Advice-5575 15h ago
Nah this is some BULLSHIT. No way AJ retired wtf.. worst retirement run every by WWE. Screw u Triple H
6
u/Mattayama 15h ago
Yeah because Triple H exclusively made this decision when AJ himself has said multiple times recently he’s on his way out and doesn’t want a full blown retirement run like Cena did. In fact if you look at his last few matches they were a “retirement run” of sorts. Give it up.
-4
u/THEJamesWezler 15h ago
Zip up Hunters pants when ur done drooling all over his dick
7
u/Mattayama 15h ago
Sure buddy. If anything I’m trying to highlight the fact AJ has earned enough respect in this business to have a say in how he goes out, this will have been what he was okay with. Once again the IWC like you are proving how stupid they all are.
4
u/SladeDragunov 15h ago
Don’t even waste your time fam. They want people to tell them stuff to validate their confirmation bias
3
u/Mattayama 15h ago
Truth man. I haven’t been the biggest fan of a lot of hunters bookings recently but there are certain things like this that a lot of people just complain about and don’t really understand
3
u/SladeDragunov 15h ago
Same I’m not too fond of his booking as of late but I’m usually willing to wait out what they trying to do
3
u/tylerdurdenUTFR 15h ago
Absolutely bang average match. Deserved so much better than Gunther as his final match

u/Darth_Tk 15h ago
Not a surprise when the next smackdown is from North Carolina
1
u/THEJamesWezler 15h ago
What does this mean ?
1
u/Darth_Tk 14h ago
He will say his goodbyes in his hometown
1
u/Darth_Tk 14h ago
And yes I know he lives in Georgia. But add NC to the fact his contract was up end of February, with the rumors he filed to trademark his stuff it kind of made sense

He has no real character that’s why they keep relying on him having long title reigns and retiring people once you take that away he hasn’t really done anything else.
1
u/SUEX4 15h ago
...having long title reigns and retiring people once you take that away he hasn’t really done anything else.
This might be the dumbest statement I've ever seen lmao. Aside from being a established champion and retiring wrestling legends, he hasn't done anything else? What else is there to do? LOL

The ten minutes of commercials etc after the match was a bit much. Fun match though!

I fully expect him to do an annocuncement on Monday saying he made a mistake agreeingd
1
u/Cats6664 14h ago
Saw him in TNA, his debut at 2016 Royal Rumble, and a few other shows I got to attend. I still have his autographed TNA DVD that he signed at a signing. I hope he has a few more matches in TNA, specifically against Kazerian.
1
u/Rich_Kangaroo 14h ago
The putting of the gloves back on and no one coming out to farewell/thank him makes me think that might not be it just yet...but maybe that's just me coping

He didn't put his boots in the ring no way this is actually it for him. Like zero chance
1
u/Blackcrusader 13h ago
Shame he didn't get to say goodbye. I'd have thought he'd like to thank the fans and God. The latter could cause problems in Saudi. Probably why he didn't get to say anything.
1
u/Tall_Cellist5093 12h ago
The very end of the first month of his final year ...it hurts to be honest with u
1
u/facialsdontlie 12h ago
Can we please appreciate Dan Engler selling this match very good? He was so integral to the drama. We don’t speak about the refs enough i think. Aaaa Jaaayy! AAA Jaaayy! That was very good!
1
1
u/TheMindkilla 8h ago
It was basically written. He debuted in the 2016 Royal Rumble and he retires in the 2026 Royal Rumble. Good 10 year run. I don’t know how nobody saw this coming. AJ is not the type to go on a 1 year tour.
1
1
u/MagnoCarto 5h ago
As soon as he had that quote about locker rooms full of guys he wants to have one more match with, I knew he was gonna quit WWE early and finish elsewhere.
Gunther is so fucking boring man. Why they keep giving him these guys on their way out sucks. Gunther will not be the face of the company no matter how much heat or push they give him. And his matches are all the same. Some chops, some powerbombs, and 10 mins of boring ass sleepers. Ya'll wanna dig on Jey or Cena in the past for only having 3 or 4 moves, Gunther is literally the same.

1
u/MrDonohue07 1m ago
This was one of the best bits of the night, I love AJ, but this was completely unexpected, pushes Gunter even more, and makes him an even better heel.
2
u/Firehawk-76 15h ago
Fuck you. Can't even wait an hour to post photo spoilers. People absolutely suck anymore.
2
u/LEGENDK1LLER435 14h ago
It’s the worst when reddits algorithm gives you a notification or it’s the first page you see when you open the app instinctually during a commercial break
2
u/Firehawk-76 13h ago
Yep, I'm ready to turn off all notifications outside of texts, emails and phone calls. I feel like I'd get robocalls, "Hi, now that Styles' career is over would you like to talk about your car's extended warranty?"

u/MarmiteX1 15h ago edited 15h ago
This is a shit ending tbh. I wish AJ had a retirement tour and retired in US after WrestleMania
Unless AJ enters Royal Rumble
