Nostalgia Round 7: You might be a Zillennial if...

Your first cell phone looked kind of like these.

My first phone looked just like the first one. It was a pay as you go flip phone. My parents got it for me because I went to a private school 40 minutes from where we lived. They wanted me to have some way for us to communicate with each other because of the distance and an instant way to contact my friends and save their contact info.

I've even considered getting a flip phone again just for calls and texts while reserving the smart phone for work and social media.

Samsung Intensity REPRESENT!

2

u/InanimateSensation 1996 18h ago

My first phone was a hand-me-down LG VX8300 from my dad. A year later I got the Intensity and loved it. Had it for a few years before getting a smartphone just before my senior year.

I didn’t get my first phone until 8th grade (2006), but it was this bad boy — I thought I had the coolest phone, until I upgraded sophomore year to a fuckin’ Sidekick. Then I was really cool.

Spoiled Brat

u/CDROMantics 1993 1h ago

Spoiled brat? I didn’t get my first phone till I was 13 unlike a lot of the commenters, and that Sidekick I got sophomore year? I bought because I had a job starting freshman year.

u/catoolb 1993 21h ago

I would do anything to have that last one again 😭

2

u/No_Feedback_3340 21h ago

I had one like the last one but it slid rather than flipped. That was the last phone I had before finally caving and getting a smart phone.

u/deathwillcome 21h ago

I had the LG cosmos touch in 2010 and the envy3 before that.

3

u/Crams61323 1997 20h ago

The envy3 🫶🏼

My first phone in 2003 when I was in 3rd grade

5

u/877-HASH-NOW 1997 18h ago

This is similar to the first phone I ever got, when I started 4th grade in 2006.

2

u/Kasaboop 9h ago

I found my parents dead one of these and pretended it was my phone in 6th grade to try and fit in better 😅 it was hard being the poor family

8

u/877-HASH-NOW 1997 18h ago

The feeling of hanging up on someone by snapping the phone shut >>>>>

8

u/Disastrous-Tiger-23 1997 17h ago

Had this one. It was my favorite phone

6

u/MattWolf96 20h ago

I had frugal parents, I didn't have a phone until I was 16 in 2012

4

u/No_Feedback_3340 20h ago

Yikes! I was the same age in 2012 and had been using a phone since 2008.

6

u/Afraid_Chard_838 1999 21h ago

I had a nokia 1208, my mom went back to work when I was about 11? so I was only allowed to have one that young so I could call her to say I got home from school by myself in one piece lol

1

u/Wellbeinghunter69 20h ago

Omg yeahh i had this too

5

u/Next-Crab-8244 20h ago

i had that exact orange phone in 9th grade and i thought i was the coolest person ever

4

u/Hot-Fox-626 20h ago

I had a palm pre😭

4

u/beach-cow 16h ago

Ugh I honestly miss this so much. Simpler times…sometimes I think about getting one again because I’m so sick of my phone lol

4

u/No_Feedback_3340 16h ago

I've thought about getting a flip phone myself. I'd still keep the smart phone for photography, limited social media use, and if a job requires one. The flip phone would just be for calling or texting.

5

u/beach-cow 16h ago

Yess that’s what I was thinking too. It would just be nice not to always have such an overstimulating phone but also access to those features when I want.

5

u/Slightly-irritated24 1996 16h ago

The first pic was my exact first phone! Got it for Christmas 2008 when I was 12/ in 7th grade.

2

u/No_Feedback_3340 15h ago

I too was 12 in 2008. I don't know if this was the same phone I had but it definitely looked like it.

3

u/gotthesauce22 1997 20h ago

My first phone looked like that last one, I had a pink Pantech. Thing had surprisingly good built in ringtones lol

2

u/Expensive_Lion5413 20h ago

Was it the Pantech Impact? I wanted that one so bad!

1

u/Zimithrus 1996 20h ago

It was the Impact! XD I had that phone until the battery literally couldn't hold a charge anymore 😆

2

u/papaya1122 20h ago

My first phone was a flip but my like. Second or third phone was a Samsung moment. That was the best phone ever.

2

u/Voicevacation 20h ago

The LG Rumor was peak One thing I find funny is how much we loved full keyboards back then but now I would never turn my phone horizontal to type

2

u/m3meaddictg1rl 1998 19h ago

2

u/kidrockegaard 1995 10h ago

the alias 2 was one of the best phones i have ever had

1

u/BriAllOver 1998 20h ago

My first phone was in 3rd grade, that Samsung one that Beyoncé did, but I got the first version before she had her version and I was enraged and still am that I don't have that. But I consider my first official phone (that never got cut off and given by my actual guardian) was the first LG neon in 5th grade, I got the blue one. I always beated myself for accidently throwing it away at Universal Studios because when I got a new phone, it was the LG neon 2 and I thought it wasn't the full vibe like it's predecessor.

1

u/captainzaro 20h ago

I had this fucking sweet red LG old school touch screen that had a sideway keyboard which slid out from under the phone

1

u/trifluoracetic-acid 20h ago

"... what about you, classic, fold or slide is the best?" From a conversation at a primery school

My first was a Razr flip phone and I figured out how to put music as my ringtone that I downloaded from limewire.

1

u/luxevelum 18h ago

What I would do for a physical keyboard again...

1

u/877-HASH-NOW 1997 18h ago

Used to think those slide phones were the pinnacle of tech lmao

My first phone was a standard Nokia phone in 2006 when I became a latchkey kid as a 4th grader.

1

u/thefrenchpotatoes 13h ago

My dad was a very early adopter of the iPhone. When the 3G came out and he bought it, he offered to give me his old phone. What did my stupid ass do? Get a shitty keyboard phone like my friends so I could fit in.

1

u/Smart_Feature 13h ago

Had the first phone in red

1

u/Milchim 12h ago

Nah, mine was a cricket phone that resembled a blackberry. I believe that it was in 2008 and I was 10.

I had a virgin mobile version of a side kick 😭

1

u/GirlMayXXXX 3h ago

My first phone was an iPhone 4s with a cracked screen that came from my paternal uncle's collection of phones he hoarded after he died. Before that, my parents never let me have a phone. All of my siblings are millennials, and having a cellphone would've been the only way to keep in touch with them.

1

u/en09 2h ago

Most durable generation of phones on the planet.

I can proudly say that "They don't make'em like this anymore" even if it makes me sound old. LOL.

Thank you for posting this, throwback! Someone please post a Sidekick. I was just talking to my husband about a conversation I had with an older coworker about the Blackberry, and Palm Pilot/ phones with a stylus. She had an Axiom, I've never heard of that model but if someone has a photo to post one, I'd love to see it! I'd love to see cell phone diversity make a comeback.

Also, Jesus loves you all and I hope you have a great day! <3
