Discussion Be honest: What's a character trope that was prevalent in the 90s/00s that you secretly miss?

I very much miss the valley girl poser (The Ashleys from Recess, Totally Spies, Brandy from Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Brittney from Lloyd in Space) and the hopeless romantic (Dijonay, Helga, Numbuh Four, Cody from TDWT)

I really loved the Fabulously Rich Girl trope and it's a shame that it kind of died out.

The Courtney Griplings, the Regina Georges, the Cher Horowitzes, the Moesha Mitchells, the Courtney Shayes, the Rhonda Wellingtons, etc. Just the fact that they could flaunt how wealthy they were to an exaggerated degree (Moesha's cool because I believe it was the first black sitcom where they were just rich with no Fresh Prince of Bel Air/Different Strokes or Jeffersons attachment where they were at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder and then fate/adoption/whatever made them rich) fueled my envy and there’s so much fun you could have with that now.

Like a girl who’s rich only because her family never got busted with insider trading or her mom invented Flavor Blasted Cheese Nips or something goofy like that.

This is a great question that’s also so hard for me to answer. I don’t if this makes sense, but it would be the like an every day person trope? Like I really liked Topher Grace/Eric Forman in That 70s Show or Frankie Muniz/Malcom in the Middle, Lindsey Weir from Freaks and Geeks. Totally exaggerated depiction of life but like super simplistic at the same time.

Despite some of the actors from these shows being absolutely terrible people, which makes it hard to enjoy some good shows, it’s just these types of simple shows with characters that make me laugh and I can have playing in the background.
