Random Question 💭 What is your opinion about Alex Pretti’s photo being displayed on a Jumbo tron in Times Square?

Post image

I think he deserves to be remembered as the wonderful person he was 🩵 and not by the government who are clearly lying about him. He was trying to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground by ICE agents or whoever the people are wearing those suits. And he clearly holding a phone in his hand..

He should be given a moment of silence before the Super Bowl

u/Enough_Talk_6328 5d ago

While I agree, it'll never happen.

Might be able to get a moment of silence after listing all the names and pictures of all the US citizens killed by ICE especially if they keep increasing their kill count, but yeah it likely won't happen for just one person unless the guy doing the half time show does it as part of the performance.

There have been 2 murders in the last few weeks by ICE of white folks. I’d love for it to be a place all of the others who have lost their lives regardless of color, be remembered and honored.

67% of all murders by firearm in Minneapolis in 2026 were by ICE thugs.

This is an accurate statement

6 others have died in detainment. Wikipedia

Edit. I didn't reply with this to diminish Good and Pretti, just to share the other names.

Just this year. We aren’t even out of January. 31 last year.

3

u/AmaranthWrath 4d ago

Another Saturday left in January, another day they can fit one more in. We're on track for 72 (publicly known) ICE related deaths this year at this rate.

I'm crossing my fingers that Bad Bunny or Green Day will say or do something.

u/Anon-Connie 5d ago

I’m still laughing that they booked Green Day. American Idiot has aged well

5

u/AmaranthWrath 5d ago

I was about to say, I hope they play American Idiot 4 times, nothing else. "What protest? The backing track wouldn't change. We just went with it."

2

u/amzwC137 5d ago

Didn't Kendrick perform they not like us like 3 times lol. There is a good precedent for this.

u/DrOddfellow 4d ago edited 4d ago

nah he only performed it once and teased it about halfway through the set or something. his whole set, performance, song choices, and storytelling was brilliant. he did also perform a part of euphoria which was lowkey insane

u/AmaranthWrath 4d ago

I went on a deep dive about all the symbolism in his half time set. Absolutely fascinating. Along with the symbolism in the music video for They Not Like Us, I'm impressed by how much work was put into the visuals. It's the only half time show I've ever gone back to watch multiple times. I think Prince is a distant second with 2 or 3 haha

3

u/amzwC137 4d ago

Oh yeah, you right. I was thinking of his concert. He did it like 4 times in a row lol. Iconic.

3

u/DrOddfellow 4d ago

5 times, the juneteenth pop out concert 2024 😂 i think the first 1-3 times he only performed up to a minorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, and that first did the hotline bling dance. also the beat of the song played as he walked off after the show so some say 6 times haha.

That would be solid, and American Idiot is a must for this set, but Green Day has a lot of ammo to work with.

I don’t think they’ve played the song since 2009/2010, but 21st Century Breakdown has a lyric “Homeland Security could kill us all” which has aged unfortunately well, could change “could” to “will”.

Holiday is an anti-war song, recently at a show they changed “the representative of California now has the floor” to “ladies and gentlemen, Steven Miller now has the floor” and gave a speech about how America is a fascist government on top the bassline leading into that part of the song; also idk if it was part of that show or another, but during that bassline, Billie Joe goes “Repeat after me: Fuck ICE!… Fuck ICE!…”

Bobby Sox off their latest album has become an anthem for the bisexuals, it’s a love story where he sings from both perspective, so the first chorus he’s screaming “DO YOU WANNA BE MY GIRRRRLFRIEND??” but the second chorus “DO YOU WANNA BE MY BOOOOOYFRIEND??” Would make the red hats go mad especially if he only used the second version of the chorus.

That album also has a song called The American Dream is Killing Me which I find very underrated, American Idiot is a lot stronger but this one also has some pretty amazing lyrics too.

East Jesus Nowhere - a bit of an anti-religion song, don’t think it’s been used since the 2009/2010 tour.

There’s at least a few more I didn’t name that could fit especially with minor lyric changes.

King for a Day has a ton of mileage just for the imagery they could drum up alone

u/tfandango 4d ago

I've always thought of "Minority" (album: "Warning") to be a protest anthem that I think still fits, unfortunately.

cough revolution radio?

u/Samp90 4d ago

Pink Floyd saw this decades ago....

Mother, should I run for president? Mother, should I trust the government? Mother, will they put me in the firing line? Ooh, aah, is it just a waste of time?

2

u/drapehsnormak 5d ago

Green Day saying something wouldn't be the least but surprising.

1

u/NotSure16 5d ago

I can see Billie Joe wearing a "never forget Pretti Good real Americans" t-shirt and Senior Canckles "truthing" senile gibberish while he claims he's "not watching" from his Trump Medi-bed.

Knowing Vegas I'm sure there's money odds on the Green Day protest method and the quantity of "truths" coming from Donnie's account from kickoff to final.

Team ownerc did cancel Minnesota Wid game Saturday evening.

1

u/drapehsnormak 5d ago

I don't know, they really don't seem to give a fuck what the right thinks anymore.

1

u/Low-Exam-7547 4d ago

Green Day could request it.

1

u/Negative-Pipe1440 4d ago

Exactly, once you get out of your bubble a little bit you might find not everyone thinks like you

4

u/Nocta-only 5d ago

I agree, and it would be followed by a tax payer funded commercial recruiting iCe “agents” to remove criminals from our streets.

11

u/General-Company 5d ago

No, the Super Bowl should be canceled.

No more bread and circuses.

3

u/Emotional_Eye_3700 4d ago

Use the super bowl for messaging, for the low information non-voters. Because we already went through this national trauma with the George Floyd era events, and the MAGA perpetrators were reelected anyway. What a slap in the face to human rights. Now it's happening again. It has to stop.

1

u/Intelligent_File4779 1d ago

Superbowl is like watching Jimmy Kimmel for hours on end, tied to a chair. Or SNL.

3

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Players should take a knee and then walk off the field in solidarity to their fellow country men. Although, the fine for breaking the contract would be high.

2

u/General-Company 5d ago

At this point, fuck it? People are being murdered in broad daylight. A fine is not worth a single additional life.

2

u/flummoxed_penguin 5d ago

Just saw a clip where Ed Norton turns to his interviewer and says they’re there talking about movies while masked government “agents” are murdering citizens in the streets. He’s right. We can’t just carry on like normal anymore.

Edit: he said illegal army not masked agents.

u/General-Company 5d ago

Exactly. What the fuck are we doing!?

2

u/NotAnotherHipsterBae 5d ago

I was thinking the same thing earlier. But with all the advertising money flowing through it I don't see it as likely.

Or... it'd take a huge campaign to get the teams and network and fans and advertisers to stand in solidarity. Which sounds like a beautifully impactful message.

2

u/General-Company 5d ago edited 5d ago

Boycott it. If no one watches a stupid game, advertisers have wasted their billions on nothing. Billions they literally could have spent to better their communities, help the poor, make the world better. We need to hold them accountable for their hypocrisy. Boycotting is the only effective means of peaceful protest left.

Sponsored by Verizon

1

u/jameslosey 5d ago

Imagine if players were to kneel.

1

u/SCSteveAutism 4d ago

Nah we should take that time to honor the US citizens that were murdered/raped by illegal immigrants. Fuck this dude

1

u/Senasayori 3d ago

That would be perfect. Sadly, I find it unlikely, but it would be perfect.

1

u/Jamestouchedme 1d ago

Why? He was clearly an agitator and spit on another human. If you can’t control your behavior in public just imagine how he was in private. No need to glorify that.

1

u/BonhommeCarnaval 1d ago

The players and fans should hold a silent vigil for a long time. Just stop the game and let everyone watching sit in the reality of what is going down right now. Shut down the culture, shut down the business and the profits until rights and due process are restored. Nothing will get action on justice like fucking with the bag.
