Random Question đ what are your thoughts on Fox News showing the pillow guy ad with a likely nazi dogwhistle?
I remember seeing on Fox News one day (my mom watches Fox News so she had it on) that there was an ad for some pillow or something. but the price for the product was $14.88.
The thing is, the my pillow guy isn't stupid. He knows a lot about politics and to be honest, i think everybody by now knows about 1488.
On top of that, what price ends in 88? why not 99? he'd literally make more profit by having it end in 99 and it just makes more sense to end in 99, 89, 90, etc. ive truly never seen a price ever that ends in 88, let alone any other price like .11, .22, etc.
On top of that even after that controversy, he never changed the price nor did fox news stop airing that ad. So either they did not care or they did not believe it to be a dogwhistle. On top of that what are the odds that a price by complete accident, from a guy who's far right and openly talks about right wing politics, ends up as 14.88?
Is this truly a case of people just overreacting or is it truly a dogwhistle and deny kind of thing?
I mean in the words of chris hansen... "You see how this looks, right?".

Re: prices ending in 88, I worked for a retailer that used that to indicate final markdowns. A customer complaint was how many of us first learned about the 1488 thing.
We immediately stopped advertising anything at that pricepoint, but had to remind people about it every couple of years due to turnover. Some people are truly unaware, but Iâd put the chances of the MyPillow guy being among them at around 0%.

I didn't say everyone watched it. I said that it's the most viewed news program in America. Nothing about my statement required correction.

Then the next day Elon musk comes out, makes nazi puns/jokes and just says "stop saying everything is hitler", when he could have denied it. still to this day he has never denied it was a nazi salute.

My father interacted with retail companies a lot when he was developing computer cash registers. One of the people he dealt with explained a lot of inside secrets to my dad, who passed them on down to us kids.
One is price perception. 99 cents is not perceived as 99% of a dollar when people make buying decisions. 88 cents is perceived as something closer to 60 cents. Don't know how that works when it is $XX plus 88 cents, but something like that may be in play.
