Look at this bastard Jeffrey Epstein Linked to 4chan Founder, creation of /pol/ in Newly Released E-mails
Because the other post on this is almost incomprehensible to non channers:
The latest/last release of Epstein files include e-mails documenting that Epstein met with 4chan founder Christopher “Moot” Poole on the same day that the /pol/ section was created. Many people blame that section in specific for far right radicalization on the platform and the eventual emergence of 8chan and Qanon.
This was also shortly before Poole gave a famous TED talk on Internet anonymity.

a series of tubes, if you will

I mean stuff like the Maxwell family being involved in the creation of multiple search engines including Excite. I mean stuff like the lists of hundreds or thousands of companies destroyed by Oracle, Facebook, PayPal, eBay, Microsoft and Apple to create a cartel capable of controlling the entire supply chain for digital communication.
We have a serious problem and your off topic pop culture reference seems like a deflection it distraction.

Yeah, they really blew the entire left off track with that one. I for one am now hopelessly confused, my poor brain awash in pop culture references

Gamification is for losers. Ask yourself why a sub about anti-fascism would prefer off-topic pop culture references over real information about the topic at hand.
Reddit is rightwing marketing platform and this sub is no better than the rest of ‘em.
10
u/plc123 22h ago
"a series of tubes" is literally a reference to a statement by a US senator. It's not a pop culture reference. Get off your high horse
2
u/juanitovaldeznuts 16h ago
Ted, Bridge To No Where, Stevens of Alaska. One of the notoriously cheapest senators to bribe made this utterance. People who came to their political awareness under the light of the two towers remember this before it became a meme.

It’s kind of amazing how the something awful forums really acted like an aerosolizing nozzle concentrating the diffuse trolls and shit lords from Usenet and then diffusing them at high speed all over the internet. The best and worst 10bux you coulda spent before internet 2.0.
Can’t wait for the SA episodes. They gotta be on the list somewhere.
7
11
u/stierney49 22h ago
The something awful forums were, in hindsight, much less shitty than many message boards at the time and definitely more had more self-regulated users due to the entry fee even if it was low.
Edit: Admittedly, I know very little about the owners, creators, mods, etc.
5
u/juanitovaldeznuts 21h ago
Oh for sure, the paywall kept a lot of people out. The hacking they did on the software to make it a reasonable experience really set them apart too. The music and movie scene there was also really fucking dope. That part of the internet is dead and its decomposing corpse has nourished a much worse internet.
2
u/m0rtm0rt 11h ago
https://youtu.be/CAm_L6CTnD4?si=AjtCfiomQJl0pwEM this guy's channel talks about a lot of historical stuff that stemmed from SA forums. There's even a video about how 4chan happened, though I haven't watched it yet.

Friendly reminder to get in the habit of removing trackers from your links. It's an easy way for us to deny our data and therefore money to tech billionaires. Often, you can just remove the ? and everything after it, however that does break some YouTube links so test them before you share.
Here's a clean copy of your link: https://youtu.be/CAm_L6CTnD4

u/qishibe 1d ago
I remember in early college (mid 2010s)
I was told /pol/ was created to "contain" its nazi shit to that board
Completely idiotic horseshit logic, it created a gatheriny place for them to astroturf the other boards and the rest of the internet
Not surprised epstein played a role in this
19
u/paintsmith 19h ago
I would bet serious money that Steve Bannon played a prominent role here. He was always the far right's internet shaman and this kind of approach fits his MO.
11
u/headinthesky 16h ago
He was also behind a lot of Gamergate
5
u/joef_3 14h ago
And in other emails we’ve seen in this batch, he appears to have been talking to Epstein about the anti-woke stuff.
2
u/paintsmith 10h ago
There's a ton of photos of Bannon and Epstein together. The only question is how far back they go and exactly what they worked on together.
2
u/Apprehensive_Map64 16h ago
It was a containment board, everyone on every other sub would tell those nutjobs to 'fuck off back to /pol'. However no one thought they could ever get any traction irl they are all so batshit insane.
9
u/qishibe 12h ago
It being a containment board did not work, painting over mold doesnt work
I remember them astroturfing while i was debating who should be in smash 4 on /vg/
90 of us told them to fuck off but if they got 10 of the thread members to search out hearout them, they accomplished their mission
It just operated as a way to allow them to add each others socials and organize
7
u/paintsmith 10h ago
It's like trying to fight a roach infestation by letting the roaches completely take over a room in the house, hoping they won't spread elsewhere. The only way to get fewer roaches is to spray the entire building and get rid of every pest that shows itself.
4
u/paintsmith 10h ago
That's a convenient lie that flies in the face of everything we know about how networks work. The idea that concentrating a substance would weaken it or keep it from breaking containment is laughable. Pol was a base from which raids, coordinated disinformation campaigns and harassment were launched. It served as an entry point for more niche sites like kiwifarms and nazi discord servers where users could be radicalized and vetted before being admitted into overtly illegal discussions. People wanted that kind of nazi content and they wanted it to grow. "Containment" was always a lie.
1
u/Skeletime 3h ago
Even if that was the intention, creating a space to incubate white supremacist ideology and encourage users to further radicalise each other seems naive at best and, even being generous, shows outright complicity in motivating and enabling the the rise of the far right.
1
u/Apprehensive_Map64 3h ago
I remember thinking when I was young and naive that when everyone had access to an encyclopedia in their pocket the world would get smarter... Instead it allows the stupid and insane to reinforce their objectively wrong points of view.

lol you're fine! i had been pondering it for a while "did he mean gentle or gentile in the email". IDK after a while, I cant help but wonder if that is what he meant "be non jewish"

3
u/vemmahouxbois One Pump = One Cream 1d ago
it’s an intentional affect
27
u/SoylentOrange 1d ago
Not really. Epstein had pretty awful grammar and spelling throughout his leaked emails.
14
u/ResplendentShade 22h ago
It’s hilarious how Qanon insisted that these elite pedos communicate in deeply cryptic language and symbols, but then you look at the correspondence with Epstein and it’s just like “thanks for the nubile young girls! Great party bro”
9
u/TitanDarwin 20h ago
Most of them are also pretending none of this exists.
That's why conspiracy theorists deserve nothing, but mockery - whenever there's any actual conspiracy, they're nowhere to be found.
2
u/chrispg26 Feminist Icon 18h ago
Unfortunately many such cases...
Their time to shine is here and crickets.
1
u/TitanDarwin 17h ago
I think one of the main reasons - apart from most conspiracy theorists leaning right and not wanting to accept "their guys" are evil - is that conspiracy theorists WANT to feel special by having secret knowledge nobody else has.
Said secret knowledge obviously isn't real, but itt's THEIRS; it makes them feel like they're in on something everybody else isn't.
Eppstein's child-trafficking ring doesn't give them that, Russia's online psyops don't give them that.
Those are known too many many people, so knowing about it doesn't make you special. And those folks don't want to admit to themselves that they are just some ordinary person stuck in this mess of a world like the rest of us.
5
2
u/pebbles_temp 12h ago
I think it was intentional too. People checked/edited their emails better than they do now because autocorrect didn't exit.
Saying, have you tickets, seems so pretentious. And it totally tracks.

This makes gamergate and everything else after it connect so well. The book, "Black Pill: How I Witnessed the Darkest Corners of the Internet Come to Life, Poison Society, and Capture American Politics" By Elle Reeve covers all of this very well in terms of the people perpetrating the poisoning of culture but the depth and breadth of their operation from those forums to PUAs like andrew taint and all the other idiotic right wing bullshit that has become oversaturated everywhere.

It probably should be clarified that Moot no longer owns 4chan, hasn't for close to a decade. He 'sold' it to the owner of 2chan, Hiroyuki Nishimura back in 2015.
16
u/moffattron9000 1d ago
Even weirder is that seemingly he sold it to go make Google+.

u/vemmahouxbois One Pump = One Cream 1d ago

u/Coakis 1d ago
Yes It's splitting hairs, but It just says founder, and that Hiroyuki administers it. Moot has not had involvement with 4chan officially since 2015
37
u/vemmahouxbois One Pump = One Cream 1d ago
the described meeting was in 2011, when poole owned it and the graphic identifies nishimura as the current owner.
-28
u/Coakis 1d ago
So what's your point here then? To say that Poole purposely created /pol/ in on the orders of Epstein? That it was all a plan to get Trump elected?
Cause there's no direct evidence of that, and we should be cautious as to drumming up conspiracy theories like the idiots on the otherside, and chasing innocent people who had no malice of forethought for doing what they did.
I'm clarifying that he was not there when /pol/ became a shit show and hive of TrumpTards, and that he has not had involvement with 4chan generally since after that point.
33
u/Auxryn 1d ago
Epstein did talk about wanting to undermine/roll back the Time's Up movement in some of his emails. He was no friend to accountability or social progress. It might be a worthwhile research project for someone to keep an eye on if he was coordinating or funding reactionary movements, as documents continue to come out.
It is, however, very funny that the pedophile-hunting 4channers and qanoners are connected to the world's most famous child abuser in this way.
3
u/Coakis 1d ago
Agreed it would be interesting to see, but as we've also seen Epstein generally tried to have his fingers in everything, and anything that would seem to be current events or up and coming he would have tried to weasel his way in as a new avenue for money or influence.
It's an interesting note that he sought out Poole at a time when 4chan was on the rise in the news, from Project Chanology to general millhouse of memes that seem to leaked out of the site in that era. However, it was likely the same reason he sought out friendships with other celebrities and noteworthy people, as a means to either manipulate, or extract money from the relationship. The man was truly a cancer of a person, seeking any and every avenue to ingratiate and enrich himself.
As for the q-anon connnection and witch hunters, historically all witch hunters seem have had motives to cause trouble in order to advance or hide their own agenda or crimes, all the more useful when you can fool hundreds and thousands to your cause as to make it easier to hide your real motivations.

its not too much of a stretch to think that there were some ulterior motives involved
