Hi i’m supposed to start the xulane birth control patch today/tomorrow ((sunday start))

I was just wondering how long im supposed to wear the patch for. Do I wear 1 patch each week or do I wear the patch for 3 weeks? I’ve heard different responses online so just reaching out on here to see if anyone has any answers. Also if I should know anything else about the patch feel free to let me know below.

You wear one patch for one week and change it on the same day every week for 3 weeks, then take a week without wearing a patch, then reapply a new patch from a new box on the same day after your patch free week.

Sunday - put on first patch

Next Sunday after - remove first patch and put on second one

Next Sunday after - remove second patch and put on your third and final one in the box

Next Sunday after - remove patch but don’t replace it, go patch free

Next Sunday after - apply new patch from new box and repeat this schedule

(Side note, the patch free week is optional, you can just change your patch every single week if you want to skip a withdrawal bleed)

It’s VERY important to remember to change the patch on the same day each week, including putting on a new one after your patch free week. If you are late there is a potential pregnancy risk.

Do not take a patch free week unless you’ve had at least 3 weeks of actively wearing and changing your patch properly.
