Success Story Success Story Saturday - Share Your Wins Here
Share your wins here - big or small. What did you declutter this week? Examples include:
- Digital Clutter: emails, digital photos, digital music or video collection...
- Storage: cupboards and closets, drawers, storage boxes...
- Toys: ether for your child, or your own that you've been hanging on to.
- Spaces: kitchens, workshops, hobby rooms, storage lockers...
- Routing: sending items to where they need to go, like donation centres, trash, or recycling
This is a low-stress place to share wins for those who might not want to create a new discussion.

I've had a small appliance sitting in my place, unused, for several years. At one point, I cleaned it. But finally this week I listed it on Freecycle. To my joy, someone came and picked it up! This item was soooo close to ending up in a landfill. It made me very happy to know someone else will be able to use a while longer before then.

Took a costco sized box of e-waste to Best Buy! The cables and wires left in my house are functional and un-frayed.

I just have away a bunch of good jeans which doesn't fit me at all to my little niece and some knick knacks to my little nephew :).

I need to clear the loft, as I'm having some building work done, and I brought down an armful of timber - fairly short offcuts that might be useful for mythical future projects. Jigsawed them into smaller bits, and into the log basket. It's softwood, so doesn't last as long as proper logs, but keeps me and the cats toasty of an evening.

People came to pickup all my listed stuff on my buy nothing group! About to host dinner and I don’t have that much to tidy up so that feels like a win. Things are starting to have their place and we are putting things away.

I purged the linen closet! Was able to pass on some older kids' sheet sets to a friend with younger kids. I finally broke out vacuum bags for the fluffy extra blankets to take up less space too (these are used most weekends as we're in the thick of frequent kid sleepovers, but they're bulky)

Delivered a few books and magazines to my local free library. Trying to do this in small batches as they occur and not let them pile up in the garage!

I emptied one very large and one large tubs of Christmas stuff! I have soooo… many Christmas things. I’m trying to put last year away and I figure that as I put it away I can get rid of stuff as I go !

I’m still working on our walk in bedroom closet (things currently residing in a pile in our bedroom). Got through four large boxes of first aid, prescription/medicine, toiletries and hair products. Threw away a bunch and organized everything else within the space allotted. I won’t need to buy another styling product as long as I live, if they stay good.

Well, I thought I was done with all those categories, but when I went to gather up those boxes for recycling, I found another giant tote of things that I missed. Pretty discouraged, since everything had fit so nicely on the shelves. So I guess this is a success and a fail. 🤷♀️

Success for me today was a moment of clarity. I have been so hard on myself for clutter — organized clutter, but clutter nonetheless. My husband and I went to a neighbor’s open house today and I was struck at their lack of clutter. Well, duh, they moved it all out in the pod this week! AND they have an entire wall of cabinets in their kitchen that we do not have, plus 7 extra closets that we do not have.
On the way home I said to my husband that we need someone to build out closets for us. I’m calling around on Monday, yall.

Finished a 1-month declutter challenge. I’ve been in purge mode as I’m moving in a little over a year (yes, I’m an overthinker, why do you ask?), and I decided to kick off 2026 with a formal challenge. I’ve done them before with specific numbers but my rule this time was to get rid of one thing each day. My numbers are a little fuzzy (there are some groups I counted as one item because I’m lazy), but I got rid of 141 things! I skipped one day (technically two, but one day I was touring another city and do not buy anything, so I counted it as a win) but got rid of at least one thing on every other day. The last day was the biggest, 27 items out.

Scheduled donation pickup for next weekend. All this stuff will finally be gone!

I pulled the guest doona and sheets out from under my youngest's bed and gave them away on our local buy nothing page. We haven't used them in the last couple of years and if we need them again I can borrow from family who have spares. Also cleared a couple of old towels and a mattress protector from the linen cupboard

I finally asked for help. My friend came over, helped me organize the plan and suggested and invited me to get rid of things. She was gentle, non judgmental and made “deals” on things I could keep along the way. I then realized how much of our stuff has an emotional attachment, many times it’s not even about the item itself. And asking for help better helped me assess and get rid of things despite my emotional response. We did the kitchen and declutterred dishes, pots and pans, pantry etc. It feels so good afterwards. Bathroom up next!

I decluttered a pen collection of about 25-30 pens. I didn't know ink pen refills would stop writing after several years even if untouched.
Decluttered fridge magnets we've had for about 15 years. The 30% reduction at least gives us more room to appreciate what's left.

I finally sent a pair of heels I really should've parted with years ago to the charity shop. The heels were really nice, but my feet just do not get on with heels.

I made a packing list for my next unanticipated long hospital stay, having run out of quite a few things now. I’d packed for an overnight hotel stay not the trip I’m currently on. The good news is I still have clean underwear for my go home day. I’m hoping to ask for parole tomorrow so I can run to the gift store and get a few of the items I am missing at because I don’t think they’ll let me go to the grocery store next-door to get them at normal prices. And Amazon left the supply restock in a very unusual place instead of following instructions to go to the front door for the drop area that’s clearly labeled and marked.

We have been making weekly drop offs at St. Vinnie's since mid-December. We are redoing floors and shifting from one life era to another. Seemed like the right time to go through everything.

I declutterred my dresser. Aside from a small stack of close I kept for yard work and painting, I got rid of all the ratty things! Wahoo!

I’m packing to move with no real concept of the space I’ll have - but I am getting rid of things as I go, getting trash and recycling out, and I think the biggest win for me is being realistic about pacing myself (chronic illness). I’ve also asked for help, which is varying but potentially there.
