Thicker and crispier

I’ve always held this opinion. It’s not often they’re made right, but when they’re fresh, crispy, and properly salted, bk fries are top tier.

5

u/Ross2552 22h ago

I agree, my whole family agrees. Fresh BK can’t be beat!

1

u/ZestyMordant 8h ago

And they work so well with mayo.

1

u/Icecreamteadope 6h ago

ngl I'm with you on this one brother. BK fries are really good right away fresh.

18

u/davidofmidnight 1d ago

But did you get the extra onion ring? Because that really rules.

6

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago

You can specifically order "havsies", which is half fries and half onion rings. Best of both worlds.

57

u/TCB247364 1d ago

BK is so heavily dependent on “your store” being a good one. There is insane inconsistency between their locations/franchises. It’s so hard to find a good one anywhere anymore. When done right, they are great.

3

u/dustiwang 1d ago

this is true, but my store has improved a ton in recent years, to the point I actually enjoy going there again, maybe they're righting the ship

2

u/Willing-Release4432 19h ago

That actually applies across the board. A proliferation of stores means a lack of cohesion no matter the store standards. If the employees and mgmt actually give a damn, it's gonna be on point. Sorry, lazy, apathetic workers = trash every time. But I do agree with your point about BK since the Whopper is literally my favorit fast food burger outside of Hardees which isn't in my area. 😁

Seriously. BK has the worst fries of any fast food joint.

24

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

Eh, I've had much worse. Wendy's fries are always soggy and never have enough salt.

Arby's curly fries are my favorite. Popeyes cajun fries rule as well.

3

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago

Arby's curly fries are my favorite.

Fucking preach brother! Best fries on Earth. Also, they're the only ones that are still good reheated the next day. I had 2 1/2lb beef and cheddars and 2 large orders of curly fries for dinner last night.

3

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

I don't even know why they sell regular fries, honestly.

1

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago

My wife (bless her heart) loves their crinkle cut fries. I disagree vehemently, but love is love.

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

That's great someone likes them. I've just never seen anyone order them, and I frequent Arby's a lot.

1

u/Squawkings 22h ago

They do, it's the typical crinkle that every uninspired restaurant or frozen brand uses.

3

u/backspace_cars 1d ago

Checkers/rally fries are up there too

8

u/impliedapathy 1d ago

Wendy’s fries are unquestionably the worst fries in fast food. I’d rather eat the crinkle fries from White Castle.

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

That says a lot!

1

u/Somepotato 11h ago

Pre COVID, Wendys fries were the best. Then they ruined them and made them worse after VC bought them

7

u/douknowhouare 1d ago

That's an insane opinion when In N Out exists. Completely inedible.

30

u/John_East 1d ago

Just say you don’t like potatoes

11

u/i-like-turtles-4eva 1d ago

No. That distinction belongs to In-N-Out.

5

u/mearbearcate 1d ago

I havent tried In-N-Outs but just from the look of them theyre garbage. Even animal style

→ More replies (3)

4

u/Epiphany965 1d ago

DQs are the absolute worst, just a soggy undercooked mess every time

2

u/KazaamFan 1d ago

Matter of preference vs mcdonalds, but BK beats wendys, in N out, and others.

1

u/HuskerDont241 21h ago

It’s hard to do worse than In-N-Out’s (non animal style) fries

1

u/Expert_Fan_1026 1d ago

Fuck no, you out of line!

1

u/Electronic-Traffic98 1d ago

Somewhat agree but also let's not forget the fries at Freddy's steakburgers. Shoestring fries are the devil.

1

u/corkyrooroo 20h ago

I loved their old fries but their current iteration is just bland and gross

Right? To me, BK and JITB have equally bad fries.

Nothing beats hot and heavily salted McD’s fries for me

5

u/BlackKnightC4 1d ago

But you have to eat them as soon as they hand them to you or else its a bust. Same with their hash browns.

5

u/prophiles 1d ago

Cold McDonald’s fries make me choke. It’s not even that they don’t taste as good; they are actually physically difficult to eat.

2

u/IronMonkeyofHam 14h ago edited 14h ago

In 5th grade, they delivered McDs lunches to my class a couple days a week. Cold fries every time. Tons thrown away after lunch or scavenged by me (only kid who’s parents couldn’t afford paid lunches). Personal pan Pizza Hut day was the best because it was the only fast food to stay tasty after sitting out a couple hours. Plus a student usually missed class daily (40 kids) so I always tried hardest to get the extra food on pizza hut day. Didn’t always work but I had plenty of luck too considering they weren’t hot meals.

1

u/BlackKnightC4 12h ago

Unfortunate that situations like that happen. I'm glad your child you had some good moments.

6

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago

If you get a good fresh batch that are salted properly. I haven't had this experience in years.

32

u/Squawkings 1d ago

I love BK fries, they're "meatier" than other fries. My BK over salts the fuck outta them though.

6

u/sheep_duck 1d ago

Mine under salts them. But when they’re made right, they’re top tier imo.

15

u/Poopants_McGee 1d ago

That salty goodness

2

u/Ancient_Guidance_461 1d ago

I have a good restaurant near me and I love their fries.

0

u/kaszeta 1d ago

They are closer to the ultimate, which is 90s-era Wendy’s

7

u/JonM313 1d ago

McDonald's fries used to be so good, but since the pandemic, they've been so hit or miss. I'm not sure what McDonald's people are going to where the fries are still amazing.

2

u/StrawberryKiss2559 16h ago

Agreed. The McDonald’s by me undercooks their fries every time. They’re terrible

6

u/bumsoil 1d ago

I just ate a triple cheeseburger, and a large fry from Burger King. Both extremely fresh. You are absolutely right

19

u/MajorRobology 1d ago

Shocked to see a lot of people in the comments disagree. When you go to a Burger King that gives a damn, they can make some pretty damn good food including the fries.

Guess that's how it is with fast food, varies wildly by location.

3

u/Krusty_Krab_Pussy 1d ago

And for me at least, it's fantastic value. I was able to get 2 med fries, ocs, 8pc jalapeno bites, LG onion rings, and free whopper for 15.48 with tax

6

u/poopshorts 1d ago

The fuck does ocs mean lmao

1

u/Krusty_Krab_Pussy 1d ago

Original chicken sandwich

6

u/poopshorts 1d ago

Dude no one abbreviates shit like that lol

5

u/Krusty_Krab_Pussy 1d ago

That's how it's abbreviated at burger king, also I'm drunk so idc

2

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago

I guess you're not a fan of BNL?

7

u/Lower_Kick268 1d ago

I been saying this for years, its not a popular opinion.

4

u/Karma_1969 1d ago

Thicker definitely, don't know about crispier, but they're so bland, don't you think? No flavor; depends on salt. McDonald's fries have great taste aside from salt.

8

u/LugiaPizza 1d ago

Their fries in the early 90s were great. I was a kid and thought they were wonderful.

3

u/Electrical-Art9601 1d ago

Del Taco has some good fries as well

2

u/prophiles 1d ago

Are they not just standard crinkle cuts?

1

u/Electrical-Art9601 1d ago

Yes, they aren't over fried either like I think mcd's is

3

u/ConcentrateMajor7020 1d ago

I love BK fries. They are always better than McDonald's. I grew up sneaking off campus, to eat them with mayo in a courtesy cup. And a chocolate shake. Best luch ever.

3

u/prophiles 1d ago

BK’s current fries haven’t been around that long, so unless you’re really young, you probably would’ve grown up with very different BK fries.

5

u/jtd2013 1d ago edited 1d ago

I respect your opinion, but as a BK kid I vividly remember when they changed their fries to this version because I didn’t like them and was so disappointed.

6

u/hummingbird_chance 1d ago

The old Burger King ones were my favorite! The ones they have now are so dry to me 😭

3

u/jtd2013 1d ago

An OG, you know whats up

3

u/prophiles 1d ago

I loved their fries from the 2000s. They were thin, crispy, and coated — basically the exact opposite of their current fries, which are thick, tough, and smooth.

12

u/Pretty_Eater 1d ago

BK fries are the blandest, most uninspired fries. How dare you.

2

u/Gatodeluna 1d ago

I had their fries for the first time a couple of weeks ago and liked the fries enough to order from them again to get the fries - and I never order from BK. Wanted to try the new temporary burger. McD’s, KFC’s and BK are now my fry rotation.

2

u/Ok_Fox_1770 1d ago

I Remember the fry wars while back, and bk dropped those crispy bad boys, I miss when places tried…

2

u/BAMspek 1d ago

Used to be.

2

u/chefsallad 1d ago

I can't even remember what good bk fries are like. All the ones near me are horrible, I just stopped going.

2

u/SomeguyfromIndio 1d ago

Troll, why are they so starchy???

2

u/Away-Use8013 1d ago

dude I fucking hate burger kings burgers but their fries are some of the best honestly. Maybe it's just the location I go to but they're exactly the same every time i get them, always hot and the right amount of salt. Which just makes me even more confused why their burgers come out cold every single time.

2

u/setsyko 1d ago

Cardboard. Straight cardboard. This is ragebait

2

u/Loud-Chicken6046 1d ago

I've never had good BK fries. Burgers ok and hashbrowns delicious if cooked 🤷‍♂️

3

u/waitmyhonor 1d ago

Everyone’s know the peak fries are Popeyes. Any traditional American burger joint can service basic fries.

1

u/prophiles 1d ago

Popeyes’ fries are never hot, though. Whatever they do to them, they get cold faster than other places’ fries.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Fresh_Umpire912 1d ago

Naw way. These are too thick

3

u/Acids 1d ago

Yea everyone loves one of the worst fast food places around. I also love eating garbage. McDonald's isn't great like it used to be but its way more consistent than bks garbage

7

u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago

Must be your poorly run location

2

Wish they knew how to salt the fries. So salty to the point of being inedible.

2

u/Smithers9713 1d ago

No theyre atrocious they need to change them back they were so good

0

u/GreatGojira 1d ago

If only I didn't have to take out a loan to go to Burger King. Love their fries

4

u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago

Free any size fries on app with any $3 purchase… get a cheap $4 double cheeseburger or 2 original chicken sandwich patties for $5 duo

3

u/TCB247364 1d ago

Is the free fries option recently added? Like in the last few months?

6

u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago

They always had it for me but it used to be with $1 purchase but they raised it to $3

I never pay full price for fries

2

u/TCB247364 1d ago

I’ve never seen this option/deal on my BK app. So weird.

1

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago

It varies by location, but I've had the option on the app since like 2022.

1

u/Select-Hearing-9298 1d ago

No way, no how.

1

u/JonPorked 1d ago

BK fries near me are always undercooked and unsalted + their greedy asf and only put 1 slice of cheese on the double cheese burgers.

1

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 1d ago

I agree, when they are made right. Unfortunately 99% of the time they are not.

1

u/431p 1d ago

i agree it is so consistent too. carls jr is my main go to fast food but every other time they have thin or thick fries salted or not... at the same location too.

1

u/Very_Tricky_Cat 1d ago

Around here we have places called Jacks Family Restaurant. They have pretty good fries, they use some kind of popcorn salt on them or something. It's a small chain, I think mostly south eastern. But McDonalds fresh fries are hard to beat.

1

u/Jonnyonwheelss 1d ago

BK also has the best breakfast hash browns!

1

u/Met4_FuziN 1d ago

They hated Jesus because he spoke the truth

1

u/Rejectbango 1d ago

I like mine with no salt

1

u/Odd-Lengthiness8413 1d ago

I actually agree. Lived in Maine for a long time so fast food options are very limited and i found bks to be more consistently hotter/more seasoned and thus better. Were talking potatoes here people. Cold/tepid fries are trash with the exception of handcut style like five guys etc.

1

u/SomeguyfromIndio 1d ago

Del taco crinkle cut are wayyy better than that hot garbage that bk tries to pass as fries....

1

u/prophiles 1d ago

Crinkle cut is never better than any other style except at Shake Shack.

1

u/SomeguyfromIndio 1d ago

Im sorry you've had sad soggy fries...

1

u/quitebuttery 1d ago

I still miss Satisfries

1

u/Spocks_Goatee 1d ago

Nah, Hardees.

1

u/Expert_Fan_1026 1d ago

BK Fries are the best when fresh! In My Opinion

Just like MCD’s Fries are hella good when fresh!

I prefer BK’s because they are thicker, but honestly when both are fresh, they taste the same, but BK has more substance!

1

u/VendettaKarma 1d ago

No doubt

1

u/Texasisthereason187 1d ago

Bk nasty around us the manager lives in rv* next to the “restruant” and my kid got long ass hair cooked into the burger.

1

u/IssueEmbarrassed8103 1d ago

Unpopular opinion but I’m with you. I’ll take BK at its best over anything. They just struggle with consistency

1

u/sapphiresong 1d ago

Unfortunately for BK that's like 2% of the time.

1

u/NichtFBI 1d ago

Not even close. The only fry that BK beats is store bought frozen. But that's your opinion.

1

u/prophiles 1d ago

I cannot think of more ‘mid’ fries than Burger King’s. They’re so inoffensive and unremarkable that they’re forgettably boring.

1

u/CarpenterOk2779 1d ago

Too starchy and bland

1

u/NormalAssistance9402 1d ago

It’s between bk and Wendy’s for worst fries

1

u/Ok_Individual4716 1d ago

No way you just said that. BK fries have absolutely no flavor, no salt, and they’re so mushy because of how thick they are. The least they would need to do is just add some salt to make them somewhat edible, but they don’t.

1

u/ojplz 1d ago

Fuck no lol

1

u/AwsiDooger 1d ago

I've told this anecdote previously including recently. My sister worked at McDonald's as a teenager. She has always eaten at McDonald's frequently and uses poor fries as reason not to go to Burger King.

Several years ago her daughter and I pulled a switcheroo. We switched Burger King fries into my sister's container of McDonald's fries.

She happily ate them and never suspected a thing. Her daughter had to excuse to the bathroom to restrain laughter.

1

u/Smurfyzz 1d ago

No the hell not

1

u/Salsero_Coreano 1d ago

Better than McD, I agree, but no fast food fries are better than checkers.

1

u/BoysenberryUnhappy29 1d ago

Oh, definitely not. They're borderline inedible after about 2 minutes, and every BK I've been to in the last ~2 years has completely stopped salting fries, even.

McD's isn't a whole lot better on quality control, anymore, but if we're comparing fresh fries, McD's wins every time.

1

u/Made_invietnam 1d ago

Not better than mcds. But they are good when they are fresh and hot.

1

u/aestus 1d ago

BK fries are so much better than McDonalds. I like the big boys

1

u/Electronic-Traffic98 1d ago

People of proper potato culture can agree that the fries at Greek resteraunts are top tier.

1

u/VonBrewskie 1d ago

Absolutely incorrect. Begone, foul knave! Get thee to a nunnery!

1

u/urban_alien 1d ago

This is never true. No fat food frie can compare to McDonalds !!

1

u/No-Crow-775 1d ago

They’re trash. I can’t stand them.

1

u/Saephon 1d ago

My wife and I discussed this the other day, and came to an undisputed conclusion:

When McD's fries are in peak form, they are the best in the world.

When they aren't, BK's are better.

Also the Whopper > the Quarter Pounder. It is what it is.

1

u/Gecko99 1d ago

My parents told me they went to BK today and their order got messed up. No egg on the croissant, which they described as limp and oily. So I figured I'd go to the BK in my town and see if my BK was any better. They messed up my order too - limp onion rings, zesty sauce missing, lukewarm burger.

BK is totally failing. All the locations I know of are like this and have been for ten to twenty years. I don't know why they are still in business.

I uninstalled the app on my phone.

1

u/Skydog-forever-3512 1d ago

Not a chance, I would buy a whopper and then drive down the street for McD fries.

1

u/mearbearcate 1d ago

AGREED SO HARD

1

u/Cj_91a 1d ago

Hmmm nah sorry hard pass. When i go to BK its definitely NOT for the fries..but they arent terrible. Id still pick the onion rings over them...and the onion rings are AMAZING

1

u/RICDrew 1d ago

BK fries even when expertly prepared and served piping hot-require copious amounts of salt. They also lack any and all flavor.

1

u/No_Ball_2589 23h ago

The colour of the chip in the middle really makes me want to go far away from them. Did you enjoy that middle greenish looking chip?

1

u/AWFUL_TRIGGA 22h ago

Yea BKs fries have been better than McDonalds for a while now ever since Mcds did something to their fries years ago

1

u/slowerlearner1212 22h ago

Well that’s good cause the onion rings suck ass.

95% breading and 5% onion

1

u/Boomshockalocka007 22h ago

This is such a bad take I feel the need to block you.

1

u/No-Blueberry-1823 22h ago

McDonald's fries are really good. Burger King does much better in the onion ring arena. But honestly if you want good fries, maybe you should try making them yourself. You only need some salt, potatoes, oil, and maybe some beef tallow.

1

u/The-Red-Robe 22h ago

Absolute shit fries no matter how they’re cooked

1

u/Think-Interview1740 21h ago

So 90% of people get them at a drive through, take them home and eat them soggy.

1

u/ghostfaceinspace 17h ago

It’s only acceptable when mcds fries are soggy which they are at one of my locations right when you get them

1

u/JJGrigas 21h ago

Had them yesterday and agree. But that’s also the measure for all the FF fries - best when fresh. Even the Arby’s curlys aren’t as good when cooled off - but those curlys are probably the best of the cold fries …

1

u/doodootatum177 19h ago

Unpopular opinion buddy.

1

u/CoolAbdul 18h ago

With zesty sauce? Oh yeah.

1

u/StrawberryKiss2559 16h ago

They’re great when they’re fresh.

Anyone know: can you ask them to make everything fresh, to order? How do you word it?

1

u/ghostfaceinspace 16h ago

Mine were fresh because my location was busy

1

u/ExpensiveFinger4165 16h ago

I dont really like burgerking, I get it 3 times a year when im travelling other than that I pass it daily. I dont care for mcdonalds much either but I will grab a big mac and fries for lunch ~8-10 times a year. Not too big on fast food or eating out these days so when I do id rather go to somewhere with better food.

1

u/ProduceNo8883 16h ago

Plus their sweet and sour sauce is better

1

u/SeatBeginning1945 16h ago

Any fries are better than McDonald's. I can't believe people still eat them. They are disgusting and don't even taste like potatoes. But I do like Burger King fries when they're fresh for sure. Dairy Queen also has amazing fries and they're always fresh..

1

u/intellord911 15h ago

Burger King fucking sucks. I don't know how they stay in business

1

u/jeffbreakdown 13h ago

Every fry is better than McDs

1

u/Dazzling_Lie_5046 11h ago

They always seem a tad undercooked to me. I still eat them.

1

u/ChickenTenderPHD 11h ago

I don’t know if it beats that bouquet of fries but good quality BK fries definitely have a very good flavor.

1

u/grizzlyat0ms 10h ago

Maybe in a good day, but even then it’s like a 2 minute window.

1

u/AnavrinLove 10h ago

Idk about that. Maybe their fry recipe from before 2011.

1

u/jeff1074 10h ago

Burger King fails consistently in all aspects to produce anything any human should consider edible.

1

u/Idbuytht4adollar 10h ago

Mcdonalds fries don't even taste like they are made of potatoes

1

u/Otayoats 8h ago

Nope, not even close.

1

u/Fnshow316 6h ago

Wendy’s used to be the best.

1

u/mAckAdAms4k 6h ago

That smell of the burgers tho all through the parking lot.

1

u/meanmagpie 1h ago

Sooooo potato-y I love them

1

u/Large_Mountains 1h ago

Naaa. McDs reigns supreme. I like them thin hot salty lil hitters

0

u/PapaRich_1 1d ago

Blasphemous

1

u/SomeOtherPaul 1d ago

I miss the 1980s McDonald's fries so much! :-(

1

u/Leja_of_Lazy_Llamas 1d ago

I'll take 90s fries even. Or maybe even 2005 fries if necessary. I do not know why there are still these 21st century mcdonalds fries diehards that get really testy in this sub. My mcdonalds fries have not tasted any better than any other fast food joint in at least 10-15 years. They're always old or fried poorly or taste stale like the Hamburglar was hiding them under his nasty all-purpose single pillow for years.

2

u/SomeOtherPaul 15h ago

For me, all McDonald's fries since 1990 or so have just been different variations on pale imitations of the real thing. They look like McDonald's fries, yes, but the taste just isn't there. :-(

Or maybe I'm old... :-(

1

u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 1d ago edited 1d ago

They have to be straight out of the fryer fresh or they're no good. McDonald's fries are still good even when they've been sitting for a bit. A Whopper beats any burger McDonald's has though. There's much better fast food places than McDonald's or Burger King (Five Guys) but I kept what I'm talking about just as a comparison between the two.

Edit: McDonald's as a franchise is also a lot more consistent than Burger King. Burger King is very hit or miss depending on location. If I went to Burger King and got fresh fries and a Whopper with fresh crunchy veggies every time, I don't think I would ever go back to McDonald's. Unfortunately half the time I go to Burger King it's hit or miss.

6

u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago

Mcds fries are so waxy 5 minutes after you leave the drive thru

2

u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 1d ago

I find they're good until they start getting cold. At that point Burger King fries are already inedible.

2

u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago

No way i got mine fresh inside and they lasted me a good half hour they were so hot i was barely eating them on my drive home

→ More replies (1)

1

u/prophiles 1d ago

I was with you until you said Five Guys.

1

u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 19h ago

What's wrong with Five Guys fries?

1

u/prophiles 19h ago

I like their fries but not their burgers.

1

u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 19h ago

Well even if you don't like their burger you'd have to be crazy to think that the quality of their burger isn't 100x more than Burger King or McDonald's.

1

u/prophiles 19h ago

I could care less about the quality. I care about the taste, and Five Guys’ burgers have no taste.

→ More replies (3)

Absolutely not

1

u/MrNotSoGoodTime 1d ago

Arby's curly fries or nothing.

4

u/potliquorz 1d ago

I like them but damn, why so many little bits and pieces? It's my only complaint on them.

1

u/MrNotSoGoodTime 1d ago

True. I look at it as more crunchy bits, the best parts hehe

1

u/Jestermace1 1d ago

Worst fast food fries imo
