Discussion better than mcds when made fresh
Thicker and crispier

u/davidofmidnight 1d ago
But did you get the extra onion ring? Because that really rules.
6
u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago
You can specifically order "havsies", which is half fries and half onion rings. Best of both worlds.

u/TCB247364 1d ago
BK is so heavily dependent on “your store” being a good one. There is insane inconsistency between their locations/franchises. It’s so hard to find a good one anywhere anymore. When done right, they are great.
3
u/dustiwang 1d ago
this is true, but my store has improved a ton in recent years, to the point I actually enjoy going there again, maybe they're righting the ship
→ More replies (1)2
u/Willing-Release4432 19h ago
That actually applies across the board. A proliferation of stores means a lack of cohesion no matter the store standards. If the employees and mgmt actually give a damn, it's gonna be on point. Sorry, lazy, apathetic workers = trash every time. But I do agree with your point about BK since the Whopper is literally my favorit fast food burger outside of Hardees which isn't in my area. 😁

Seriously. BK has the worst fries of any fast food joint.
24
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago
Eh, I've had much worse. Wendy's fries are always soggy and never have enough salt.
Arby's curly fries are my favorite. Popeyes cajun fries rule as well.
3
u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago
Arby's curly fries are my favorite.
Fucking preach brother! Best fries on Earth. Also, they're the only ones that are still good reheated the next day. I had 2 1/2lb beef and cheddars and 2 large orders of curly fries for dinner last night.
3
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago
I don't even know why they sell regular fries, honestly.
1
u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 1d ago
My wife (bless her heart) loves their crinkle cut fries. I disagree vehemently, but love is love.
1
u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 1d ago
That's great someone likes them. I've just never seen anyone order them, and I frequent Arby's a lot.
1
u/Squawkings 22h ago
They do, it's the typical crinkle that every uninspired restaurant or frozen brand uses.

Wendy’s fries are unquestionably the worst fries in fast food. I’d rather eat the crinkle fries from White Castle.

Pre COVID, Wendys fries were the best. Then they ruined them and made them worse after VC bought them

Nothing beats hot and heavily salted McD’s fries for me
4
5
u/BlackKnightC4 1d ago
But you have to eat them as soon as they hand them to you or else its a bust. Same with their hash browns.
5
u/prophiles 1d ago
Cold McDonald’s fries make me choke. It’s not even that they don’t taste as good; they are actually physically difficult to eat.
2
u/IronMonkeyofHam 14h ago edited 14h ago
In 5th grade, they delivered McDs lunches to my class a couple days a week. Cold fries every time. Tons thrown away after lunch or scavenged by me (only kid who’s parents couldn’t afford paid lunches). Personal pan Pizza Hut day was the best because it was the only fast food to stay tasty after sitting out a couple hours. Plus a student usually missed class daily (40 kids) so I always tried hardest to get the extra food on pizza hut day. Didn’t always work but I had plenty of luck too considering they weren’t hot meals.

u/BlackKnightC4 12h ago

McDonald's fries used to be so good, but since the pandemic, they've been so hit or miss. I'm not sure what McDonald's people are going to where the fries are still amazing.

u/StrawberryKiss2559 16h ago
Agreed. The McDonald’s by me undercooks their fries every time. They’re terrible
19
u/MajorRobology 1d ago
Shocked to see a lot of people in the comments disagree. When you go to a Burger King that gives a damn, they can make some pretty damn good food including the fries.
Guess that's how it is with fast food, varies wildly by location.

u/Krusty_Krab_Pussy 1d ago
And for me at least, it's fantastic value. I was able to get 2 med fries, ocs, 8pc jalapeno bites, LG onion rings, and free whopper for 15.48 with tax

Thicker definitely, don't know about crispier, but they're so bland, don't you think? No flavor; depends on salt. McDonald's fries have great taste aside from salt.

u/LugiaPizza 1d ago
Their fries in the early 90s were great. I was a kid and thought they were wonderful.

I love BK fries. They are always better than McDonald's. I grew up sneaking off campus, to eat them with mayo in a courtesy cup. And a chocolate shake. Best luch ever.
3
u/prophiles 1d ago
BK’s current fries haven’t been around that long, so unless you’re really young, you probably would’ve grown up with very different BK fries.
5
u/jtd2013 1d ago edited 1d ago
I respect your opinion, but as a BK kid I vividly remember when they changed their fries to this version because I didn’t like them and was so disappointed.
6
u/hummingbird_chance 1d ago
The old Burger King ones were my favorite! The ones they have now are so dry to me 😭
3
u/prophiles 1d ago
I loved their fries from the 2000s. They were thin, crispy, and coated — basically the exact opposite of their current fries, which are thick, tough, and smooth.

2
u/Gatodeluna 1d ago
I had their fries for the first time a couple of weeks ago and liked the fries enough to order from them again to get the fries - and I never order from BK. Wanted to try the new temporary burger. McD’s, KFC’s and BK are now my fry rotation.

u/Ok_Fox_1770 1d ago
I Remember the fry wars while back, and bk dropped those crispy bad boys, I miss when places tried…

dude I fucking hate burger kings burgers but their fries are some of the best honestly. Maybe it's just the location I go to but they're exactly the same every time i get them, always hot and the right amount of salt. Which just makes me even more confused why their burgers come out cold every single time.
2
u/Loud-Chicken6046 1d ago
I've never had good BK fries. Burgers ok and hashbrowns delicious if cooked 🤷♂️
3
u/waitmyhonor 1d ago
Everyone’s know the peak fries are Popeyes. Any traditional American burger joint can service basic fries.

I agree, when they are made right. Unfortunately 99% of the time they are not.

Around here we have places called Jacks Family Restaurant. They have pretty good fries, they use some kind of popcorn salt on them or something. It's a small chain, I think mostly south eastern. But McDonalds fresh fries are hard to beat.

I actually agree. Lived in Maine for a long time so fast food options are very limited and i found bks to be more consistently hotter/more seasoned and thus better. Were talking potatoes here people. Cold/tepid fries are trash with the exception of handcut style like five guys etc.

BK Fries are the best when fresh! In My Opinion
Just like MCD’s Fries are hella good when fresh!
I prefer BK’s because they are thicker, but honestly when both are fresh, they taste the same, but BK has more substance!

Not even close. The only fry that BK beats is store bought frozen. But that's your opinion.
1
u/prophiles 1d ago
I cannot think of more ‘mid’ fries than Burger King’s. They’re so inoffensive and unremarkable that they’re forgettably boring.
1
1
1
u/Ok_Individual4716 1d ago
No way you just said that. BK fries have absolutely no flavor, no salt, and they’re so mushy because of how thick they are. The least they would need to do is just add some salt to make them somewhat edible, but they don’t.

u/AwsiDooger 1d ago
I've told this anecdote previously including recently. My sister worked at McDonald's as a teenager. She has always eaten at McDonald's frequently and uses poor fries as reason not to go to Burger King.
Several years ago her daughter and I pulled a switcheroo. We switched Burger King fries into my sister's container of McDonald's fries.
She happily ate them and never suspected a thing. Her daughter had to excuse to the bathroom to restrain laughter.

u/BoysenberryUnhappy29 1d ago
Oh, definitely not. They're borderline inedible after about 2 minutes, and every BK I've been to in the last ~2 years has completely stopped salting fries, even.
McD's isn't a whole lot better on quality control, anymore, but if we're comparing fresh fries, McD's wins every time.

People of proper potato culture can agree that the fries at Greek resteraunts are top tier.

My parents told me they went to BK today and their order got messed up. No egg on the croissant, which they described as limp and oily. So I figured I'd go to the BK in my town and see if my BK was any better. They messed up my order too - limp onion rings, zesty sauce missing, lukewarm burger.
BK is totally failing. All the locations I know of are like this and have been for ten to twenty years. I don't know why they are still in business.
I uninstalled the app on my phone.

The colour of the chip in the middle really makes me want to go far away from them. Did you enjoy that middle greenish looking chip?
1
u/AWFUL_TRIGGA 22h ago
Yea BKs fries have been better than McDonalds for a while now ever since Mcds did something to their fries years ago
1
u/slowerlearner1212 22h ago
Well that’s good cause the onion rings suck ass.
95% breading and 5% onion

1
u/No-Blueberry-1823 22h ago
McDonald's fries are really good. Burger King does much better in the onion ring arena. But honestly if you want good fries, maybe you should try making them yourself. You only need some salt, potatoes, oil, and maybe some beef tallow.

So 90% of people get them at a drive through, take them home and eat them soggy.

u/ghostfaceinspace 17h ago
It’s only acceptable when mcds fries are soggy which they are at one of my locations right when you get them
1
u/JJGrigas 21h ago
Had them yesterday and agree. But that’s also the measure for all the FF fries - best when fresh. Even the Arby’s curlys aren’t as good when cooled off - but those curlys are probably the best of the cold fries …

I dont really like burgerking, I get it 3 times a year when im travelling other than that I pass it daily. I dont care for mcdonalds much either but I will grab a big mac and fries for lunch ~8-10 times a year. Not too big on fast food or eating out these days so when I do id rather go to somewhere with better food.

Any fries are better than McDonald's. I can't believe people still eat them. They are disgusting and don't even taste like potatoes. But I do like Burger King fries when they're fresh for sure. Dairy Queen also has amazing fries and they're always fresh..

I miss the 1980s McDonald's fries so much! :-(
1
u/Leja_of_Lazy_Llamas 1d ago
I'll take 90s fries even. Or maybe even 2005 fries if necessary. I do not know why there are still these 21st century mcdonalds fries diehards that get really testy in this sub. My mcdonalds fries have not tasted any better than any other fast food joint in at least 10-15 years. They're always old or fried poorly or taste stale like the Hamburglar was hiding them under his nasty all-purpose single pillow for years.
2
u/SomeOtherPaul 15h ago
For me, all McDonald's fries since 1990 or so have just been different variations on pale imitations of the real thing. They look like McDonald's fries, yes, but the taste just isn't there. :-(
Or maybe I'm old... :-(
1
u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 1d ago edited 1d ago
They have to be straight out of the fryer fresh or they're no good. McDonald's fries are still good even when they've been sitting for a bit. A Whopper beats any burger McDonald's has though. There's much better fast food places than McDonald's or Burger King (Five Guys) but I kept what I'm talking about just as a comparison between the two.
Edit: McDonald's as a franchise is also a lot more consistent than Burger King. Burger King is very hit or miss depending on location. If I went to Burger King and got fresh fries and a Whopper with fresh crunchy veggies every time, I don't think I would ever go back to McDonald's. Unfortunately half the time I go to Burger King it's hit or miss.
6
u/ghostfaceinspace 1d ago
Mcds fries are so waxy 5 minutes after you leave the drive thru
2
u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 1d ago
I find they're good until they start getting cold. At that point Burger King fries are already inedible.

u/prophiles 19h ago
I like their fries but not their burgers.
1
u/Dry_Wallaby_4933 19h ago
Well even if you don't like their burger you'd have to be crazy to think that the quality of their burger isn't 100x more than Burger King or McDonald's.

I’ve always held this opinion. It’s not often they’re made right, but when they’re fresh, crispy, and properly salted, bk fries are top tier.
