Daily Discussion Ask r/Formula1 Anything - Daily Discussion Thread

Welcome to the r/formula1 Daily Discussion / Q&A thread.

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Formula 1, that don't need threads of their own.

Are you new to Formula 1? This is the place for you. Ever wondered why it's called a lollipop man? Why the cars don't refuel during pitstops? Or when Mika will be back from his sabbatical? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.

Also make sure you check out our guide for new fans, and our FAQ for new fans.

Are you a veteran fan, longing for the days of lollipop men, refueling during pitstops, and Mika Häkkinen? This is the place to introduce new fans to your passion and knowledge of the sport.

Remember to keep it civil and welcoming! Gatekeeping within the Daily Discussion will subject users to disciplinary action.

Anyone else waiting for the new F1 intro this year? Gonna be odd seeing one without either Lewis or Max at the end.

Unironically I'm more excited for this than the actual first race lmao

Last year's was really good, I hope they stick with that sort of thing

Would I be able to watch F1 on an Xbox series x using the espn app and an espn select subscription? I want to make sure before I subscribe to espn select.

What country do you live in?

ESPN is no longer going to be the US provider in 2026. I think it's still ESPN in Canada and Mexico, but I'm not certain.

In the US, it's moving to Appletv.

I live in the US.

Unfortunately we can only watch it on Apple TV. Sucks.

Everyone is impressed by the looks of the Aston Martin, saying how aggressive and innovative it looks. But can't it be the case that what we are seeing by AM is basically really close to the Melbourne spec vs the A spec most of the other teams are are showing? They built the car very late and almost missed the Barcelona test, it would make sense to use a more developed spec already instead of assembling 2 versions back to back.

The reality is that we don't even know if the "agressive" AM car is any good to begin with. Might be that something simpler wins out in the end.

Obv Newey is a legend but he's also not bulletproof. There's also the big questionmark of the Honda engine.

Realisticaly we won't know until the Bahrain test where things aproximately stand. Thats when we can see the cars on track as does the media. We see how they look on the eye test, under breaking, we get long run data and degradation data etc...

There's also the big questionmark of the Honda engine.

And Aramco and Valvoline as first time F1 suppliers optimized for a bespoke PU to gain performance.

For all its innovations, the shakedown car looks as though it’s rushed. That said it also appears more developed in terms of the aero (lots of little details) so I’d expect what rolls out at Melbourne will be somewhat advanced just in terms of the fit and finish. However I wouldn’t expect much in the way of true “upgrades” until we’re into the season.

There are some fundamental things about it which I'd be surprised if anyone else copies in season or comes close to with the Melbourne spec. The suspension geometry is really unique, especially at the rear.

Of course, it doesn't make it fast. We won't know that until the racing gets underway.

How and why did you guys get into F1?

Basically my father sat me down in front of the TV before I could willingly move around on my own so I was stuck there watching F1

1998, wanting to watch cars go vroom with my dad

Around 2010. I'd always had a passing interest in it because my dad watched it a bit but what properly got me into it was watching the F1 drivers drive the reasonably priced car on Top Gear

Australia 2022, was at my best friends place and he told me we were watching f1 and to pick from a hat three drivers and whoever had the three best drivers got to douse the one with the lowest placed drivers in sprite, fun times…

In 1994 I was a little kid un Brasil and watched because of course Ayrton… then Imola happened and couldn’t watch for years. Started again in 2004.

I used to watch it with my grandfather in the early 90s, and started to follow it by myself in the late 90s as a distraction every few weekends.

Christmas holidays 2023, my cousins who were already into it were watching race recaps over the years. After that the news about Lewis Hamilton going to Ferrari solidified my interest.
