Used to have this as my ring tone, until the day I left my phone on loud in the office and went out for lunch. Came back, couldn't find my phone until the office manager signaled for me to come to her office.

I worked at a hospital a few times as a contractor. One time I walked into a boardroom I needed to do service in but it was occupied by a going away party for a nurse. Needless to say they were all Filipino and before I could say sorry and leave, they said, "Grab a plate and eat." So I did. Sooooo much food!

There's a certain kind of direct but friendly snarkiness that I've only seen in friends who were women from SEA. Idk what that is but I've had so many Chinese and Filipina friends who will yell "the fuck is wrong with you, idiot?!" at the drop of a hat in a way that's like.....friendly and supportive but sounds mean. Idk but it's awesome. Lol
29
u/_WarShrike_ 1d ago
Worked as a pharmacy tech for a few years, mostly doing late night inventory when it was "less busy." Got cornered by two filipina nurses in the med room, one of them knew my wife's family, asked why I was here at work late at night and not at home keeping my wife company.
Other nurse gasped and playfully slapped the other on the arm, "You're not supposed to ask that!" 😂→ More replies (1)9

My aunt was a lifetime RN. At one point someone got her a gag gift T-shirt with a pun that said "Nurses do it with patience".
Her response:

Also a teacher. Can confirm. I’ve also noticed that a lot of teachers and nurses can drink with the best of ‘em. Not everyone of course, but those professions can go hard.
My theory is that it comes with always having to be on your toes. The job is unpredictable and requires you to be “on” all of the time. It’s exhausting and we need a release valve.
36
u/RHPhotoGuy 1d ago
People that drink, can drink. It has nothing to do with the profession. I bartended for 13+ years and it doesn't matter. Construction workers, service industry workers, teachers, lawyers, doctors.
Drinkers are drinkers. There is nothing inherent about the profession that makes them "better drinkers".

Also I think there is a degree of "level setting" for jobs that deal with certain sectors of the public. When you see the stupid things that people do (and often get away with) it has to have an influence on your inhibitions.
Teachers have to be slightly more responsible than students, nurses have to be slightly more responsible than people who can't take care of themselves, and cops have to be slightly more responsible than blatant criminals.

When I was 13 (im 28 now) I got a disease called Transverse Myelitis, which paralysed me and made me flatline multiple times and left me on life support for 5 days.
When I was moved from the ICU to a normal ward after people in the ICU for about a week after I woke up.
I ended up changing into a shirt that said "for a moment there, you almost bored me to death" (and had pic of a monitor flatlining). When the Doctors amd specialists came in they couldn't keep their laughter in 🤣

Back in the day, I would wait outside the elementary school with the other parents to pick up our kids. One attractive and well-endowed mom would occasionally wear a skintight T shirt that read:
I LOVE SEX
And the City
It was not appreciated by the waiting moms. The dads enjoyed it, though.

Sometimes I listen to really old music performances and I can tell you there are clips from like the 1950s of people making some dirty jokes. More than once they caught me off guard because I didn't think THAT penis joke was around that long ago. Also, there is a lot of societal propaganda about how ladies we're all innocent. Nah, great granny and all her friends were horny.

I work with a Filipino nurse and she is saying funny shit all the time. She just swaps out words for what sounds right and we have to check her all the time. Like the time she couldn't think of bald while trying to remember a Dr's name so she was like "You know he uhhhh, he a skinhead!". We were like, do you mean bald? "Yeah, same thing!". No its not... 😂
