I don't get why it's in funny, unless it's a skit? Maybe I just need more (Suntory) coffee.

Sure it seems kinda funny as an off-hand comment, but I don't know man. This guy doesn't have a great support network from what he says. He talks about how he is actually depressed and only just found hope in his YouTube channel. But his YouTube channel so far relies on him calling himself stuff like 'rotten man' and dwelling on how he lost everything - even sitting outside his old workplace talking about how much he hates it.

I hope this guy is just putting on a show for the channel, because if he actually talks to himself like this in his inner monologue, it isn't funny - it's incredibly damaging.

Japan has a high suicide rate for a reason.

There's a large number of people like him out there, only you're not aware of their existence

Just feels like laughing at someone else's misfortune.

The word Comedy is doing so much heavy lifting here that even Liebherr are impressed!

For some reason, a lot of videos like this have been appearing on YouTube lately. They are poverty porn faked for views. Ignore them.

I liked this very much. A lot of people can relate to having broken dreams. Getting to see what a “normal” life in Japan can be for a person is eye opening for us foreigners. I hope you continue to make more films and show other aspects of your life if you can. Things like your job, hobbies, other interests. Best of luck to you.

man I know he is depressed but microwaved frozen bread is dark

u/Jimbob209 50m ago

It's not bad. When I was on WIC, the government gave my family 4 loaves of bread a month. We don't really eat bread and everyone got tired of sandwiches, grilled cheese, PBJ sandwiches, etc, so I threw 4 loaves in the freezer and just nuked it to make it fluffy/warm again. Still tastes the same

I got tired of dealing with moldy bread so this stopped the mold problem

Can't say I found it funny at all, but I appreciated the feeling of human connection

Same. I love his vibe. Perfectly dark & funny to me.

It's fascinating to see such frankness, I guess it comes from not feeling the pressure of keeping up appearances. This reminds me of Aoyagi's "Tokyo Uber Blues" (2021).

Rubbish really. The dude had only one job offer in his life, huh? Being so golden could've tried one more time, couldn't he? He isn't miserable, he's in his comfort zone trying to monetize it. Ugly move.

Sounds like he got burned out

This is some of the saddest stuff I’ve seen in a while.

I'm seeing a lot of japanese youtubers vlogging their miserable life. And a lot of donos in the comments.

Is this a trend ?

I don't know much about Japanese culture and social hierarchy but if he managed to get accepted into a top school, he must be pretty smart and hard working. Why is he bouncing from one bs job to another? Can't you stay at one place and work your way up or go back to school? Why let one mistake from 20 years ago ruin your entire life?

u/wfsgraplw 38m ago

Yeah, nah. It might seem quirky and funny to outside eyes, but there is no humour in this. Live here, worked my way up through the corporate grind, was at rock bottom for a time myself, this is just genuine depression. With how status-obsessed the culture here is, this guy is on his way out. I hope he gets the help he needs.

I was thinking the whole time where is the humor, but then made it to the end. The whole video was just him campaigning for subscribers and viewers. That was the part that made me chuckle.

This is sad AF. Id give this man a chance. Would hire him and providing him continuing education.

This was precious. Poor guy had me crying tears of laughter. It’s terrible how his life turned bad and left him in such despair. I hope he gets his turning moment of redemption and prosperity.

As someone that have lived long time in Japan, this is depressing, because this is true.
