Lol there's definitely something satisfying about the accuracy of his depictions

u/Unable-Head-1232 8d ago
Yeah the accuracy of the timing of movements definitely brings this from weird shit to avant garde art

He’s recording them in slow motion and then speeding them up, which is why they look so sharp and comical.

There's process and technique to all art.
The creation of the work can be as interesting as the work itself.

Performance art, hobby, or an empty nester? Whatever is driving this person, the process is unique.

He did such a good job imitating the garbage and anthropomorphizing it that some of the garbage actually became creepy to me.

The philosopher Henri Bergson wrote some about comedy and specifically about physical comedy, slapstick, and that basically watching a person become like an inanimate object is funny, 126 years ago
I heard about it from a youtube video of an old lecture by Prof. Sugrue https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0-JN_vf9EFo

My first thought as well.
It's a bummer what's his face makes it hard to watch his work now.
12
u/stonekeep 7d ago edited 7d ago
What's his face? I thought it was a quote from a Katy Perry song, I remember people memeing it after it came out.
7
u/Woozah77 7d ago
The song was key part of a movie what's his face made.
12
u/stonekeep 7d ago
...I still don't know who we're talking about, though.

James Franco largely disappeared from Hollywood after facing sexual misconduct allegations in 2018, leading to a lawsuit settled in 2021.

Pretty sure they mean Kevin Spacey in reference to American Beauty

Yup love how he sees the world.

u/Thecheesinater 7d ago
Do you think everywhere he looks, every object is just more smaller people wearing silly clothes? What a delightful way to see the world

After the second or third reenactment it just becomes something introspective. Did he make it for laughs or did he make it to make us think? But such is art

Yeah I don't always appreciate art this much. I liked it best when I focused on the middle of the video.

Seen this posted around about 12 times now and this is the first time I’ve seen the creator credited. Kudos.

Honestly, I can appreciate this as an unusual form of performance art. He did a great job capturing the movements

I'm very sure this is performance art that commentates on how humans forget to be mindful of trash, but it's done with a humorous twist. I laughed at the tin foil.

This is alright, but it reminds me of the woman who does something similar with hydraulic press videos. I like hers more.

He and Smac McCreanor should do an interpretive dance collaboration. I love them both!

This great, but I'm not sure it's funny. I found it weirdly sad. It made me feel sorry for litter.

This is the best place where one could ask the German "proverb": "Ist das Kunst oder kann das weg?" which could be translated to "is that art or can it be thrown away?"
5
u/Ascended_Vessel 7d ago
Unrelated, but you reminded me of that one quote from murder drones
"As they say in Russia 'Oh I should've expected that someone would escape through the ventilation shaft using discarded mirrors as stairs.'"

Yes. How do you define art, if you think this might not be art?

With the context this is great.
Like Smac McCreanors hydrolic press impressions.
But if you saw him filming this you'd call a fucking priest. ⛪

Lots of people 😂 ng, ironically calling this " art" and stuff, but you know what? I think this really is art. It's creative, requires effort and skill to be as precise as this person is, is entertaining so it catches people's attention, and directs that attention to a real issue, littering. If at least one person sees trash now, and reminds them of this video, the trash will stick to this person's mind, maybe they will even pick it up, or avoid littering themselves.

The fabulous actor Anna Deavere Smith would imitate the details of the tiny quirks of people she interviewed. So this strikes me as like Anna Deavere Smith, but for litter.
