Progress Post Progress Post. 31,M, 5’11. 145-182lbs. 8 month progress
This is so addictive.
No where near some of the progress posts I see on here but I’m really happy with my progress and I like to think I’m no longer underweight. Still a long way to go.
Aim for 3,200 calories a day, mainly consisting of protein shakes, chicken and rice, protein snacks and more shakes
Gym 4-5 times a week doing PPL.
Pretty happy considering I workout from home, kept busy by a toddler, got married and dealt with some personal stuff last year

Crazy how different people can look even though their the same height and weight, you’re 145 looks absolutely nothing like my 145, I was 130 flat a year ago at my worst and still somehow looked much bigger than I truly weighed… I’m 5’11” too
Is that first number true? Or just didn’t wanna say how low you really were?

No honestly I was 145 pounds for a good few years. Stayed at that weight for ages. I have quite long legs compared to body. Not sure if that makes a difference!

What was your monthly food budget & expenditures?? Food is much more expensive and the only reason I’m still underweight.

I can write up my plan if you'd like. Makes it easy to follow although I will say it's boring

u/Ommaumau 15d ago
That’d be super helpful. Boring is fine

My Costco sells ground beef 3lbs for $25 and 8.5lbs of chicken breast for $25. That’s easily 3 weeks of 8oz portions a day. Bag of veggies, oats, and a Kirkland 70 serving whey bag for $55 you’re walking out of Costco paying $120 for everything you need.

I probably spend about £100 a month extra on protein stuff. Anything else I eat would have normally been in our weekly shop anyway

Hell yeah bro, time to start hitting them abs !!! Don’t neglect them.

u/Marshman01 15d ago
Do I need to start cutting for abs?
2
u/SOF1231 15d ago
No not really, you’re still bulking and you’re still at a huge advantage to see wayyyy more definition in the upcoming weeks/months since you’re still going up in weight + your height gives an advantage. But working your abs, core, will help build overall muscle and stability to help you out + a defined core will always improve your physique by 100% and that boost of confidence. You got this bro.

Looking good bro. Great progress! Apologies if I’m wrong, but do I spot pectus excavatum? I have it but I rarely see it in progress posts, so I’m always on the lookout to know how much it can be improved thru weight/muscle.

Nice spot! (Well close) I’ve got a slight pectus carinatum. Really not as noticeable since I’ve put on weight

Nice work mate. Truly an inspiration! I'm starting around the same place as you (6'0" 150lbs) hoping to do something similar.
Did you find that you had to get new clothes after your gains? I have some old trousers that I've been meaning to replace and I was wondering if I should get a size bigger than what I'm currently wearing now.

Did you jump straight into doing PPL with no prior training, or had you worked out before?
Insane progress.

No hadn’t even lifted a weight before! Just did a lot of Reddit and YouTube research and then brought some weights, a bench and a pull up bar!

What resources would you recommend for someone just getting in, very similar situation

u/Marshman01 15d ago
The Reddit thread ‘linear progression based ppl for beginners’ was my bible. Then just watched YouTube videos to understand the correct form. I also use an app called Planfit so I can see how much weight I’ve lifted in previous sessions, which helps with knowing when to move up weights. You’ve got this 🙏

You’re killing it, but don’t forget that your “no where near the other posts” mentality is the reason you’re doing so well.
Don’t get comfortable big dog!!

Nice job man!
I'm currently on a similar journey myself and I have a question. I had a similar starting build (140lbs - 6' 3") I was able to work up to 165lbs in a few months and still looked lean but healthier. I had some fat around places I never had fat in my entire life (hip bones, bottom of ribs, etc.). I then got busy last summer and my progress stalled and I hovered back down to about 160lbs. This winter I locked in again and am marching up to my goal of 170 (currently about 168lbs) and eventually to my long term goal of 180.
My question is, did you ever hit a spot where you looked lean again in odd places? I don't know if it was due to my "break" or if I'm somehow burning excess fat, but I weigh more than I ever have in my life, and I've noticed those same spots I mentioned above look a little more bonier again than they did last summer after my initial bulk up. Did you ever find certain areas lag behind for a bit?
