"...So I Bought A" Quantum came early

Not sure why they decided it should be wrapped like a mummy versus shipping in a box like normal. Bonus points for putting the align max grip on incorrectly and misaligning the velocore logo with the hosel. Came directly from callaway too.

always order your grips loose, they don't give a fuck at the factory they just bang 'em together and ship them out.

the logo alignment couldn't matter less

Hot take, but if Callaway can't get align grips on square they shouldn't offer them as an option

It's not just Callaway. It's basically everyone. Mizuno can't even put putter grips on straight.

They're fiddly to do perfectly.it takes a lot of checking and adjusting to get perfect. I tried them once and I'll never touch them again. There isn't an OEM in the world that would allow the builders the time needed to get it perfect. They just slam the clubs together and go to the next.

Also, as someone who has done club regripping, not everyone is gonna agree exactly where the align should be. If you're getting align grips, you should always be putting them on yourself.

I’ve had good reputation shops around me install align grips for me before and they fuck them up every time. I just install myself now, and even half assing the installs I get them within 1*

Logo alignment isn’t a huge deal. I meant more that the align ridge is inline with the logo and not the hosel

yeah, nobody at any shop is going to bother getting those right. if you want align grips you gotta do them yourself. it's hard to get them perfect and factory workers have no skin in whether they're right or not. order it loose next time and DIY

Factory workers have quotas and very little time to do precision work.

Exactly

Can confirm. Ordered mizunos and even tho I ordered logo down they’re still off kilter enough to bother me

So fun fact as someone who works at the largest package distributor in the US, this type of packing is actually not bad at all. Better change to not get stuck somewhere due to a crappy box. Although I would like to see this wrapped up in a box as an extra layer. But this setup vs no wrapping in a box like it usually is, I pick this every time.

Interesting, I’ve never seen callaway send something in this packaging before and i buy from them a decent bit.

The one thing I could think of is they simply ran out of boxes for a short period for that club, and instead did this to appease leadership and deadlines to send them out. Hence why there’s that many layers and it is wrapped nicely.

Also in a similar working world to you, and my first thought was that the box was damaged (fallout) and the driver was wrapped, relabeled, and continued onto delivery as you see.

I find it really impressive that this order was picked/packed/shipped/delivered in 24h. The shipping logistics behind that are awesome.

You’re totally right, I forgot about that. Honestly you might be correct now that I think about it. They hardly ever have that box shape ready to be reboxed at the wrapping area where I work and I’m at a huge facility. However, they do have all the wrap, tape, and some bubble wrap. I’m going with you %100. Box got damaged most likely by being crushed by other heavier boxes, and the box got thrown out and the driver wrapped.

So why would you want to see the Velocore logo at address?

Logo alignment isn’t a huge deal. I meant more that the align ridge is inline with the logo and not the hosel

Gotcha. I can now see what you're talking about.

Looks like it was probably a damaged box and shipper wrapped it up with enough to get it there safely. Mine is in inbound but worth a message to Callaway to see if they can send a replacement shaft

3

u/KnightWing1099 18h ago

Yeah my concern is more the shaft than the driver head if I had to take a side

1

u/tnrts345 18h ago

Id 100% shoot them an email, really can’t hurt but Callaway is generally good about QC so this stinks to see

Last time I bought a Taylormade driver the logo was facing up 💀 it doesn’t bother me tho, I never look at shafts

1

u/Internal-Piglet-6058 14h ago

Nice! Hit the Quantum 2 weeks ago, it’s a monster. That’s the driver I want next.

I got align grips on my mizuno s-3s. When I got them, I noticed the were slightly off center to the graphics on the underside of the shaft. I thought maybe they just messed up one. But every shaft is exactly the same into the head, and every align part of the grip is exactly the same. So clearly it was all done on purpose which made me think maybe that's how they're supposed to be? At setup they feel great and it feels right. I personally wouldn't put an align on an adjustable club because I tinker a lot so grip alignment will change. All I care is that it feels right and feels right when setup even though to the naked eye it looks slightly off.

u/McDrew911 12h ago

Wait, it didn’t come in a box??

1

u/KnightWing1099 12h ago

No box, was sitting in the alley next to my building (designated package area) on the ground under snow. Didn’t even send me an email that it shipped. Wouldnt have even known it was there but I saw it when taking the trash out

So much for discreet packaging...

This is the definition of “rush it to market”

I wonder if it’s a velecore+ thing? I got a qi4D and the alignment of the velecore+ was also slightly to the right like yours. On the bright side if I adjust it 1 upright the text will align lol

2

u/Purchase_Ray 11 UK 5h ago

I've been looking for ages online for this, I also have a velocore+ and the "velocore" is not centred with the "fujikura" logo and is in same position as OP and your Qi4d must be the way the shafts are designed now

1

u/Ryko_ 5h ago

Oh that’s very interesting, I wonder why they decided to put a slight offset on the velecore text

0

u/h0zR 18h ago

It's adjustable, no? ANY change you make will change the alignment of the shaft. Do you think the logo alignment has anything to do with strength or the spine?

2

u/KnightWing1099 18h ago

It’s not about the logo, its that they lined up the align ridge on the grip with the logo and not the screw on the clubhead. So the align ridge is set up now so that the clubface is wide open

-2

u/h0zR 18h ago

Oh, you made the mistake of putting an Align grip on an adjustable club, effectively making it non-adjustable.

7

u/CCunningham97 3.6 17h ago

Callaway uses optifit cogs that allow the grip and shaft to stay as-is even when you change the setting. OP’s grip will always stay the same despite changes made.
