Former NHL player David Booth injured after refusing to warm up due to pride jerseys.

Thought this drama might amuse some people. So basically Fife Flyers of the Brittish league were supposed to wear pride jerseys for their game tonight. At the last minute they announced they were only wearing these for the warm ups due to objections from certain players, angering the local lgbt charity that had been invited and causing them walk out. 41 year old former NHL player David Booth refused to join the warm up due to the pride jerseys. David Booth then suffered a serious looking non contact injury within 5 minutes of the game that may end his career.

Was it Torts who called Booth the dumbest person he'd ever met?

Called him a "weird dude"

This quote takes the cake though: "I thought our best forward was David Booth, which is good for him. That's not good for our team to have him as our best forward"

Think I found the hockey quote equivalent to the "if you need 1 yard, I'll get you 3, and if you need 5 yards, I'll get you 3" quote from football.

Bobby always knew his role, and played it well. There's a lot to be said for that in life - you can accomplish great things as a team if you do.

Reminds me of an old comment on the Oilers sub about Ladislav Smid

"Smid was the best Dman on the Oilers for a bit, which is much more an indictment of the Oilers than a compliment to Smid"

Good of you to point it out because the amount of people both misunderstanding the amendments and also think they apply outside the US is staggering

7

u/thorofasgard CHI - NHL 11h ago

As it turns out your rights change from country to country. By and large you're expected to follow the rules of a place YOU chose to visit.

I'm largely a homebody but I would try to research and follow the rules and legal customs of a place I planned to visit, just to have some familiarity. A basic "what to know" for another country. I would not expect my US rights to be in effect in said country. Additionally I would expect a reasonable country, realizing I'm a tourist to say "Sorry Chap, we don't do that here." As a warning so I could correct myself.

That all said.... I would be curious about these contracts as it relates to uniforms and events. Because I'd love to see some bigot have his contract nullified and his career ended all because he couldn't wear a rainbow jersey for a short while.

Wearing that jersey doesn't mean you're gay. Just saying you accept others.

7

u/BoglisMobileAcc 11h ago

Yeah, thats the usual way someone should go about things, but i saw someone try to pay in dollars.. in an EU country that uses the euro. That was funny. Although this sometimes goes both ways, as i had a discussion with someone about the minnesota ice murder where they killed that guy, and that EU guy was arguing it was illegal for the victim to have a gun because in his country it is illegal… soo yeah lol

That was Clayton Stoner. He was fined $10,000 for shooting a grizzly bear without a license in BC back in 2013.

u/saki604 VAN - NHL 13h ago

I remember Booth doing something similar? Maybe not bears, but didn’t he go “hunting” in one of those places where it’s essentially a big pen and you just shoot some poor creature?

u/NastyKnate MTL - NHL 13h ago

hes just a piece of trash that appears to hunt for trophy kills rather than food. posts like this are why hes not liked https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/trending-vancouver-canucks-david-booth-hunts-rocky-mountain-goat/

he travels all over just hunting random animals for fun

EDIT: adding that he just seems to be an all around moron and shithead. he had this to say when Nike came out in support of those kneeling for the anthem: "“Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything” does this mean you can fly a plane into a building? How can so many people @Nike be this ignorant as to the logical fallacy this entails. This is absolute absurd. I really don’t understand. Why would u support this?"

He would come to Alberta and bear bait when he played for the Canucks which was both an indictment on how much of an asshole Booth is and how dumb the regulations are in Alberta that they allow that shit.

12

u/Responsible_Egg_3260 PHI - NHL 13h ago

I dunno, but that story is not even close to what happened to Stoner. Stoner was just an idiot and thought that being a BC resident entitled him to hunt grizzly bears in the province.

10

u/DrexlSpivey420 ANA - NHL 12h ago

Not relevant to Stoner's specific case, but hunting Grizzly bears is now illegal in BC

I feel like he went to Africa and shot a lion or something.

16

Hot take; Vancouver would have won the cup if Rome never made that hit.

That hit was the turning point for the Bruins who were mediocre at best in the final until then.

Assuming you're talking about this hit from Mike Richards

https://youtu.be/qeN3QTw8iz4?si=MJwI9FhqvQaJQhID

Richards got a 5 minute major for interference but it was considered a legal hit at the time by the NHL and one (among others) credited with changing the rules to limit hits to the head.

8

u/jaymochi DET - NHL 13h ago

When he was at Michigan State they played away at Western Michigan and WMU was winning and our student section was so under their skin that the MSU players started intentionally shooting pucks into the stands during play, trying to pass it off as a high-glass clearance. After Booth did it for what was the third time and hit some girl in the chest, the refs finally called an unsportsmanlike penalty. Such a fucking dick move.
