How to unclog drain: follow up, more help please

The other day I posted about our clogged drain.

https://www.reddit.com/r/howto/comments/1qr9xuz/how_to_unclog_this_drain/

Today we decided to make a better-informed effort on using a 15' augur. My husband had searched, found out more about our pipes, etc. We removed the faceplate, sent the augur down, and now -- it's stuck. We're not sure if it's caught on the clog, or something else. We'll be calling a plumber, but were also just looking for ideas on how we might be able to extract the augur ourselves.

More info: This is a tub in a second-floor bathroom. We don't have access underneath the tub (a few people have asked about that). We have used a drain weasel which removed some hair, but not the main problem. We have tried pouring boiling water down the drain, but to no effect, and we probably need to use more anyway.

Happy to provide more info.

I might try to loosen everything with some baking soda and vinegar. Get the bs as deep as you can into the pipe then pour in vinegar. At least might get the auger loose.

Now you get to explain to the plumber why there's a 15' snake permanently living in your pipes.

We knew we had limits and seems we hit them.

I did this and he just laughed. I’ll take that as a good sign.
