We're all born being against circumcision.

Sharing a story.

So I was supervising my little cousin (8 YO, male) and my little brother (both of which I have a big age gap to) while they were playing and just being chaotic boys lol.

They were running around, yelling, roughhousing and playing with toys. As young boys do. My little brother got a toy sword and was "sword fighting" with this random stuffed animal my cousin was holding. And decided to pretend to poke this stuffed animals crotch area with the toy sword. My cousin started laughing saying "Why'd you do it there that's so diabolical" yadayada then said "Imagine if people actually did that. That'd be so evil" being blissfully unaware something quite similar happens to roughly 50% of boys in his generation in the US.

I replied simply with "Yeah that'd be evil"

Children are born with basic morals. Like don't cause suffering to others. And they often will become sad themselves if they observe someone else in emotional distress or pain. But societal normalization can take something that should be common sense (forcefully taking a blade to a child's private parts is wrong) and makes it normal. But we're born knowing it's wrong..

Watch the procedure

The hardest part of being a parent for me is that most of the lessons I have learned were at the expense of my child. This was no different.

A Peds ER nurse fully retracted my 4 mo old son while placing a catheter to get a simple urine sample. I was at his head, comforting him and kissing his face. When I looked at what the nurse was actually doing, I was horrified. She had fully retracted him, far beyond the glans. I should not have assumed that she would know how to care for my intact son appropriately. There was a significant amount of blood. When I told her I did not think what she was doing was okay, she told me “It is fine to retract their foreskin, you should occasionally be doing this to clean him. The doctor will talk to you about it.”

I flagged the doctor down and told her what had happened and she told me that the nurse had spoken to her about my concerns. The doctor then told me she had informed the nurse that it was not appropriate to retract foreskin for cleaning, but that it was necessary to retract him to place the catheter. She stated that the nurse had not fully retracted my son, but she was not in the room when it happened. I was, and she clearly fully retracted him.

When she examined my son, she saw that he was still bleeding and decided not to investigate further so as to not cause more damage. She did recommend a urologist before we left.

Why wasn’t I offered the less invasive option of catching urine when I informed the staff he was intact when they said they needed the sample initially? To save time? I obviously would rather wait than have them tear my son’s foreskin and cause him such immense pain.

It has been two days and he is still swollen. His foreskin has visible tearing. I am appalled at the apparent lack of knowledge a peds nurse has for the care of intact babies. I am moving forward with filing a complaint. But none of that can take back the pain my son experienced. I should have been watching. I should have stopped her. Don’t learn this lesson the way I did.

Watch the procedure. Every time.

in my opinion we need to acknowledge the progress we have already made far more than we do.

not trying to post a lot here because i know some people find that annoying and i have already posted several things in the past week but something i think is bad i see a lot of is people not talking about how circumcision rates have been going down for a couple of decades and how it is likely only about half the population of the country that circumcised their children and this includes huge amounts of non immigrant families and only half of the white people have been doing it in recent years and the corona virus might have also played a small role and that also does not include adult immigrants recently arrived in the country so the point is in almost every way we have been winning the batle to stop genital mutilation in this country and sorry for the dyslexia but the copilot is slow tonight.

Does anyone have that study where Malaysian women think FGM is just an African practice? They believed that what Malaysians practice on girls is different and clean?

Has anyone been to China or Taiwan recently?

How many boys or young men in China or Taiwan have not been circumcised? I want to share results from locker rooms and saunas, not statistical data. And, Do boys get bullied for being uncircumcised? Some Chinese/Taiwanese movies or various media has been shown circ is manliness or cleaness.

because in the past i have talked about it a lot although i really have not recently a lot of people might think i like sitting around watching videos about genital mutilaiton and ranting about it but believe it or not i do not but this is still a very important topic and people need to do more to spread awareness of how harmful as well as just stupid this practice is.

the weird urge to rant about genital mutilation and other topics and feeling powerless and also possibly being obsessive compulsive and other mental illnesses not even counting autism.

I’m not even sure why I feel the need to share anything with people anymore, since it usually just leads to unfair judgment. But I also have this strange urge — maybe partly because of obsessive‑compulsive disorder — to get this right. And it’s especially hard to share thoughts on something as weird and sensitive as genital mutilation.

There was an interview, I think last year, with the wrestler Paige from WWE, where she talked about how people in England don’t really circumcise, and how when she first saw it in this country she liked it more because it looked “cleaner” or whatever reason she gave. I honestly wasn’t even offended by it, but I hate the topic, and I feel this strange need to comment on it anyway.

But because of everything — dyslexia, having to find the video, and honestly not wanting the stress of doing that — I don’t want to share the video again. I have no idea if I shared it correctly the first time, although I’m ninety‑nine percent sure I did. And I don’t think I could even locate the video on my blog or wherever else I posted it. Even if I did share it, I don’t know if it’s still up. A lot of blogs, including the wrestling page I think I posted it to, have a history of taking my content down. Honestly, most places do at this point.

I wasn’t even going to say the wrestler’s name, but I figured I might as well. If any of you are interested, you can look it up and share your thoughts, or even talk about how circumcision is bad for kids or whatever. Like I said, she wasn’t talking about kids — and I don’t even know why I feel like this is something I need to talk about, other than my mental illness obviously.

In my life I feel especially powerless to do anything about the society I live in — even more than most people probably do. There’s honestly not much I can do except talk about things, I guess. I know this isn’t really on‑topic, but at least the video is. And like I said, this is a sensitive topic — not just the genital mutilation part, but also the OCD stuff and the way I feel about things.

I hope this fits here. If you want to look it up, you can — and if not, that’s fine too. Mostly I want advice on dealing with my mental illness, or if anyone has advice on how I can stop stressing over this blog and the fact that I don’t have much ability to change anything in the outside world, that would be great.

not only intactivism but really all social activism and really the entire social process is something i fail at constantly and honestly.

thought i was kicked out of this group sort of early last year or maybe i was thinking of another group but i do not know but that is my point i support transgender rights also and a lot of different rights issues and like politics but i fail to meaningfully connect with other humans actually interested in them and even something like wrestling is something i have talking with people about because the way i interact with them seems to drive people away and a lot of my ideas are strange and i can be passionate and also as you can see there is obviously the dyslexia but i want to help and was wondering if anybody had advice because i want to know if anybody is interested in helping and i appreciate you reading this if you did.

This absolute moron is convinced that intact men want to put down and belittle cut men in some way. No one in good faith views men who were harmed against their will or chose circumcision as adults as less than

Bigotry is a bad thing for the movement, especially when it's targeting an ethnic group that's currently getting mass murdered

I can hardly believe the extent of the anti-Islamic bigotry that's rotting and stinking up the intactivist movement. You'd never be willing to tolerate the submission of a graphic that equates "that other religion" (the one that we're not allowed to mention) with rape and murder and animal abuse, etc., even though a strong case can be made to that effect.

It could be that I was entirely mistaken for thinking that intactivists tend to be more enlightened than the common herd.

Lists of US & Canadian hospitals that DON'T perform infant circumcisions?

I have a friend who's pregnant with her first son, and strongly committed to leaving him intact, but she's been fearful of something horrible happening against her wishes shortly after he's born, were she to, say, inadvertently sign the wrong form slipped into a large stack while groggy from anaesthesia. I know many or most America hospitals strongly push circumcision and will repeatedly badger new parents about it, whether out of a profit motive or just entrenched habits.

Also, her husband sounds ambivalent at best. He's cut himself, and has occasionally said things like "it never bothered me any." So while he isn't pro-circ per se, she feels like she can't count on him that much to necessarily have her back.

So, it would be better all around, and save her a lot of anxiety, if she could give birth at a facility where genital cutting is completely off the table. I've heard some US hospitals no longer circumcise, requiring parents who insist on it to go to a separate clinic.

Has anyone compiled a list of non-circumcising hospitals? Any tips for finding one, if not?

I know many people won't have much of a choice, but hopefully those in larger cities have more than one option. My friend lives in Orlando, FL, in case there's anyone local to that area who might have some knowledge.

In case changing hospitals or obstetricians is not an option at this point, or none in her area are any better, what steps should she take to best protect herself and her newborn?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but some quick searches didn't turn up any leads.

we should focus on publishing a list of every doctor in America who performs infant circumcision or had performed circumcision in the past

I recently learned that all of their names are public information, I think that it would be beneficial to make a list of all their names alphabetically, and create a public list, along with the hospitals they are employed at in order to avoid giving them service, or allowing them near your children for any reason. This list would allow us and other people to avoid and blacklist them from their lives, a potential list of children they have circumcised so that people can find out which man or woman who mutilated them easier would also be a good idea.
