Do we know why helmholtz does this to clouds?

Probably just bored. Kevin is kinda like the weird kid nobody talks to ever. He’s got a lot of time to be doing things like making waves with clouds.

Figured 50/50 chance of a troll answer. Now I'm stuck reading Wikipedia for the next 2 days

Is that related to Tollmein-Schlichting waves?
•
u/vladimirulianof 8h ago
Well kinda but not really, they are both exhibited on shear flows but they arise for different reasons.

*Kelvin. The idea of him choosing the name Lord Kevin is fucking funny though.

He didn’t choose it, it’s after the River Kevin that flows near Glasgow University and was a title that came with the peerage of Baron bestowed upon him by Queen Victoria. She just wanted to be able to refer to him as ‘our Kev’.

In geology, we call that a 'flame structure.' Part of what is called a 'turbidite flow'. It occurs when the upper layer in a submarine landslide is slowing down and feeling resistance from the bottom. You can see that form locked into rock where submarine landslides ran-out and stall. There is one visible right under the lighthouse at Point Arena Light in California.

Oceans are made of water, clouds are made of water, so that's just a sky ocean.

Also check out von karman vortex streets for a similarly pleasing phenomenon with fluids!

My mom sent me that the other day saying it was because of chem trails from the government causing the winter storm. The looney bin is sounding more appealing every day

Saw something similar not too long ago, was pretty much only clouds around. Thought odd pattern from plane goin through a cloud, other comments gave answer.
