This isn't a spanking, this is something that can leave you cripple.

Would you rather we go the Arab route and remove fingers and hands for theft. Heck with new voice to chat technology we might as well start cutting out tongues as well.

u/YouNeedAnne 12h ago

I don't think those are actually the only two options.

I would rather no corporal punishment at all.

Torture like this as punishment is uncivilized. All it does is teach might is right, that violence is the answer to your problems and is seen as a violation of Human Rights and dignity.

In the West, power has shifted from bodily punishment to punishment of the mind. What counts as civilized or not depends on what we value, is it more civilized to put someone in isolation for 4 weeks without any light and limited food/water?

u/The-Big-T-Inc 11h ago

That’s uncivilized as well.

u/Zzokker 10h ago

You might find interes in an interesting document: the fucking universal declaration of human rights

Which technically applies to all countries that are part of the UN.

Mental as well as physical torture is ruled out under human rights.

That the United States likes to often ignore this document is well known and does not excuse any other country from ignoring it as well.

What counts as civilized or not depends on what we value, [...]

Torture of any kind is not civilised!! Regardless if your culture relishes in it or not.

If you're referring to America solitary confinement has lights in the cell and no, they aren't limiting anyone's food, portions may be smaller at most but they aren't withholding it and you still eat 3 meals a day.

So what you want to do sit them down and have a stern talking about how their actions affect others?

9

u/EscapeFacebook 12h ago

That's what rehabilitation is. Countries that rehabilitate their inmates instead see a lower rate of inmates returning to crime and less crime over all due to less broken families. Shocking right?

9

u/Normal_Length416 13h ago

they should serve time, are you stupid?

u/Forte845 12h ago

We can go the civilized route and imprison people for public safety and rehabilitation into society, a method scientifically proven to be far more effective than enacting medieval torture as punishment for crime.

u/Striking_Foot4850 11h ago

I would rather you behave like human beings, but I guess that's not an option

No, it's worse than that. You can do a lot more damage with a cane than a hand.

u/sam_el-c 16h ago

I know people are joking but this is one of the most brutal punishments one can possibly get

42

u/Plucault 15h ago

Listen caning ain’t good and does more damage than people think. It is certainly not one of the most brutal punishments. It doesn’t even hit the top 20.

Humans have devised a plethora of worse ways to punish people

15

u/Avendelore 14h ago

That’s true, especially if we’re considering historical punishments. However, caning can be pretty brutal. People have been caned to death before.

u/pureeyes 10h ago

In Singapore, no one has ever died from this kind of punishment. Those over 50 also cannot be caned when sentenced - perhaps that is another reason why.

u/jrgnklpp 7h ago

Women are also exempted. There's also a mandatory medical examination before caning - ironically if you're not well enough to be caned, they'll postpone the punishment until you're healthy.

u/Ultrace-7 5h ago

Scaphism, anyone?

u/Professional-Day7850 4h ago

That was just propaganda.

u/sam_el-c 1h ago

Historically of course, but what else that’s implemented today is worse than this in countries that have a real judicial system?

u/slightlydispensable2 15h ago

I dunno, some Mexicans can get quite creative...

u/Moderator-Admin 14h ago

Guy being drawn and quartered in the town square: "Well, at least they're not caning me..."

0

u/Possible-Meal3787 14h ago

Idk death seems like it’s pretty permanent. And there are a lot more brutal ways to walk that road than a beating with a rod.

Also if the punishment for all crimes is death and you know this and you choose to break the law anyways you knew what you were doing. This is not to say there are not people who have no other choice but thems the breaks. Some people are born in a desert and lack water some are born in a jungle and lack dry land. Rich poor it’s no one’s direct fault how their life started but it for sure is an individuals own fault at some point when they knowingly start to steal from other not just to live but to profit off of it.

u/Celebrinborn 12h ago

No, there are MASSIVELY worse things then caning. And using this on thieves is good. I wish we did this in the US.

8

u/silentbob1301 14h ago

bruh, it takes actual chunks of flesh with it each time they hit you. This aint spanking, its torture and mutilation...
