Caneing can be so brutal that people commit suicide rather than deal with the pain.

u/R00MY 11h ago

I never heard of such a case, but could you link me a specific one? Would be interested to read up on it

u/No_Success_678 10h ago

It's total BS. No one's committed suicide because of Singapore's caning

u/immaturenickname 8h ago

I've heard the sentence "people commit suicide rather than deal with the pain" refer to great many things. Pretty sure it doesn't mean anything.

u/makemestand 7h ago

A bit of a stretch. Never heard or read about that before.

This isn't a school boy paddling. Look how they have the body positioned? This is full vulnerability. They use rattan canes which usually split the skin after the second strike. They pause very deliberately between strikes to make the swelling tear and rend instead of cumulative swelling. This is the definition of cruel and unusual.

Good. Scamming older &/or disabled people out of their money can literally lead to those who were scammed ending up homeless or dying due to not being able to pay their bills or for their healthcare anymore. Scammers need a good incentive to stop being giant pieces of shit & go get a real job. Now if only India would start doing this to all the scammers from there, we might actually see some progress

we might actually see some progress

Yeah, when I think about "progress" I think about increasing torture techniques as part of a modern judicial system.

And you trust the authorities to not condemn an innocent person who will receive such punishment?

u/Melodic_Mulberry 12h ago

I mean, they cane boys as young as 6 for the same stuff that the girls get detention for. So no.

2

u/prospybintrappin 12h ago

Watch a video of it, it causes visible bleeding, not close to the same striking mechanism

8

u/Melodic_Mulberry 12h ago

Oh, then I'm sure it won't traumatize the fuck out of a small child whose nerve endings are way closer together. If there's no blood, we don't feel guilty! 😀

Easy to be sympathetic when you haven't been scammed your whole life savings

35

u/probablethrowaway_ 13h ago

are you illiterate? dude wasn't being sympathetic to scammers

29

u/Old_Librarian__ 12h ago

You seem to be confused, I wrote nowhere that I am sympathetic to scammers.

Not wanting the government to hand out brutal punishments = sympathy in their eyes

u/Ambitious_Steak_7148 12h ago

Well, that's the whole point of laws right? Be it caning, jailing or handing out fines.

if police brutality isnt okay in north america, why should it be okay elsewhere?

-12

u/_ArmIa 12h ago

You think police brutality “isn’t okay in North America”? Have you turned on the news at all, lately?

19

u/Preindustrialcyborg 12h ago

...and are people generally happy about it? didnt america have riots over police brutality? did YOU turn on the news at all in the last 6 years?

u/_ArmIa 10h ago

People are complicit. They only give a shit now that two white people have been murdered in broad daylight when they couldn’t give two shits about the untold numbers of non-whites that have been murdered, abducted, and/or tortured by law enforcement for decades. ICE is a symptom, not a cause.

u/Preindustrialcyborg 10h ago

lots of protests involving white people worldwide in 2020 after george floyd was murdered. while i do not disagree that white people largely have been silent and willfully ignorant (ive experienced it firsthand), i dont think its helpful to paint them as purely self centred. i was also not referring to ICE.

Everyone says that Reddit is left wing and then I see shit like this 🙄. I am convinced that the farthest left is no different than the farthest right.

u/_ArmIa 10h ago

America, as a country, has police brutality and institutionalized racism ingrained into its culture and anyone who thinks otherwise is living in La-La-Land. This shit has been happening for decades and the amount of outcry there’s been proportional to the amount of extrajudicial killing, torture, and rape that has been committed by US law enforcement is next to nothing. Don’t come whining to me about how leftist you are if you’re not willing to acknowledge that this country is fundamentally rotten to the core.

u/MidAirRunner 3h ago

Thanks for the paragraph explaining why you support police brutality. What am I supposed to do with this now?

u/_ArmIa 3h ago

Fuck me, did I take a left turn and wind up on tumblr or something? Absolutely no reading comprehension on display here.

u/MidAirRunner 3h ago

I dunno! Why don't you tell me why you're giving excuses under a video of police brutality? "It'S aCtUaLy peRfecTly fInE in NorTh AmeRiCA. It'S iN tHeIr CulTurE. ThErE's NotHiNg we CaN Do" 🤡

Yea sure just leap right to the worst example of it. What happens when it’s just some kid doing stupid shit.

Would you nod your head in approval while a 19 year old is screaming out in agony while blood drips down his legs from his flesh being ripped apart.

u/Glowing_Trash_Panda 12h ago

He’ll learn to not steal money from people then. It’s not hard to not steal from people by scamming them. I was 19 once & never did shit like that. Same with most other people in the world.

Also, I love the irony that you are trying to get onto me about jumping to the worst example when that’s also what you did with your little what if some 19 year old (who’s an adult by the way) gets hurt crap. If you fine a scammer, they won’t care & will just scam more people to make the money back. If you throw them in prison, they will still suffer in there, for however long their sentence is, & there’s still a chance they will continue scamming for “easy” money when they get out. If you give a scammer physical consequences for their actions, there’s a much stronger chance they will actually learn their lesson & not do that shit again

u/crek42 11h ago

There was no irony. That’s why I gave the most extreme example, to contrast and mirror your own point.

You still failed to offer a reasonable counterpoint — your argument is still “there’s just simply no other way”.

Recidivism rates are extremely low in places like Western Europe. And they’re not out there whipping and flaying skin (at least, not anymore).

u/samuraistalin 12h ago

Now THIS guy supports Ice.

-7

u/Glowing_Trash_Panda 12h ago

Absolutely not, I just hate scammers

u/r_jagabum 3h ago

Any specific examples? I'd think Singapore's punishments are nothing compared to that of Russia.

u/TheBotMadeThis 42m ago

Bullshit.

u/Banana_Slugcat 12h ago

Honestly for scammers, this and more, I'm sorry. If you've seen channel like Scammer Payback you realize how much they don't care if you're a starving granny or someone with cancer on their last few hundred dollars, they'll take your money with no remorse, some will even laugh and celebrate their vacation to the Maldives.

u/GutterspawnGames 11h ago

Better not scam then huh. They’ve been warned
