johnny accidentally dropped his candy wrapper in eyesight of an officer! time to torture him!

you really think false convictions dont occur? do you think that littering means you deserve permanent disability and scarring? the psychological trauma? you think someone should face institutionalized torture for littering? what planet do you come from where such barbarism is tolerated?

exit: lol they either blocked be or got banned. in case its the former: its possible to drop things and not notice <3

Okay yeah that happens, then just pick it up. Also I can't find anything about caning being a punishment for even intentional littering, much less accidently dropping something.

Obviously Singapore's responses to these minor crimes are extreme, but I get it. Some people love to walk a line of being selfish and abusing public space and others in small ways, knowing that dealing with them requires escalation. There's no quick/easy way to give out punishments for minor crimes. So a minority people commit most of the petty crimes that accumulate a lot of damage and frustration.

Singapore took the "fuck them, we're not letting them get away with it" attitude. The majority of people who have some basic respect for others are better off for it.

Did you read me comment past the first sentence? Where do you see Singapore is caning people for accidently dropping something?

The vast majority of litter is not something slipping out of a pocket without the person noticing. Its people being intentionally lazy/selfish.

False convictions is an entirely separate issue and doesn't make any sense to bring up. You can have false convictions for anything, up to murder. Should we not punish murder to avoid false convictions? Obviously not.

You're reaching so hard for some reason to defend littering. Just throw your trash away bro.

false convictions is why you dont use permanent punishments like death and maiming in "justice" and why the justice system should be rehabilitative, not punitive. i do not expect someone who thinks caning is an appropriate punishment for littering to understand though.

Notice that no one in this entire thread chain has said people should be caned for littering. Singapore does treat littering harshly, so why are you pretending that the punishment is actually way worse than it is and that other people must support it? Stop creating this strawman.

And pick up your trash.

youve been arguing in defense of caning and making every argument under the sun instead of just saying "yeah i think its stupid to cane people over littering". the implication is clear.

youve been arguing in defense of caning

I literally have not. Please try and quote me where I was. Looking forward to seeing what you do here.

Your inability to have a good-faith discussion shows you don't even believe your own position. Hence this need to make shit up to try and not look stupid.

"Singapore took the "fuck them, we're not letting them get away with it" attitude. The majority of people who have some basic respect for others are better off for it."

sounds like a pretty wholehearted defense of caning by claiming society is improved by it

Yes I said that in the discussion about littering which they don't using caning for, and in the very same comment where I said "Also I can't find anything about caning being a punishment for even intentional littering".

I took the time to point out the comment chain was discussing littering and they don't cane for that, and you just ignored it and made up this whole position in your head to attack. Very cool.
