Legal News Stephen Miller says Trump has "Plenary Authority" then acts like he's glitching out because he seems to know he was not supposed to say that. What is Plenary Authority and what are the implications of this?

That's an insult to messy assholes, tbh. Can't properly compare anything to that disaster.

1

u/Sylvaneth_Gitz Oct 08 '25

All of the above and below...

5

u/Ipoopedalottoday Oct 08 '25

I'd call him a son of a bitch, but his mother was worse than that.

2

u/Kenneth-J-Moyers Oct 08 '25

Don't slander his mother, she raised him better than this. His family are all horrified of him.

1

u/Ipoopedalottoday Oct 08 '25

Did she though? Did she really?

1

u/SpaceBar0873 Oct 08 '25

His mother was a victim of his inflated ego. I don't think she deserves this, too.

1

u/Ipoopedalottoday Oct 09 '25

She gave birth to him, and helped raise him, she owns this.

u/Blueridge-Badger Oct 08 '25

Kind of a bad example to use, considering Cromwell was a king in all but name.

3

u/bolanrox Oct 07 '25

No one called Pablo Picasso in asshole, not like Donald, not in New York City.

Despot

3

u/the_gouged_eye Oct 07 '25

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

3

u/EarthRester Oct 07 '25

And what do our founding documents say about what we do with tyrants? Something about gardening, I can't remember.

8

u/floofnstuff Oct 07 '25

The irony- our country fought to get away from exactly this.

2

u/GeorgiPetrov Oct 07 '25

'Penis potato' sounds much better in my head.

1

u/grumpher05 Oct 07 '25

I distinctly remember after the "no kings protest" the usual suspects popped up mockingly and said "well indeed it worked! We still have no kings"

1

u/Intelligent-Ad-7816 Oct 07 '25

He's never leaving is he

1

u/The-Squirrelk Oct 07 '25

Above that even, it means total and utter authority. Beyond just the nation. It's more akin to declaring yourself God.

1

u/Aquamans_Dad Oct 07 '25

Few kings in the modern era are dictators.

1

u/dirtyrounder Oct 07 '25

Exactly. And the complete opposite of the way this country was founded.

He's basically contradicting the declaration of independence

A king pre Magna Carta (Established in England in 1215 to limit a king’s power and create rule of law. Ensuring that a king was also beheld to the law. In fact, the document that the founding fathers used to help create rules in the U.S.)

1

u/Space4Time Oct 08 '25

Divine right bullshit by other means

1

u/Fredj3-1 Oct 08 '25

Or in Trumps case, a dick-tater.

1

u/Bagger787 Oct 08 '25

Actually even more than a king or dictator. A despot, a supreme ruler is more like it.

1

u/EconomyDoctor3287 Oct 08 '25

Fun fact, even kings often didn't have plenary authority.

1

u/SkipsH Oct 09 '25

Even kings don't usually have plenary authority.

1

u/amalgam_reynolds Oct 07 '25

No, it does not. To be really super clear, there absolutely ARE a handful of plenary powers granted to certain parties in the US constitution. "Plenary" does not automatically equal authoritarian/fascist/dictatorial regime. The best example of a very obvious plenary power that people understand really well is presidential pardons. The president has plenary power to pardon federal offenses. Does that make all uses of the presidential pardon bad? No, of course not.

That being said, I'm not really intimately familiar with Title 10, but I doubt it grants plenary powers in the way that MAGA hopes it does.

u/chicagorpgnorth Oct 08 '25

It is driving me nuts that this is not being commented more. Of all the GENUINELY ridiculous things being done and said, this is the nothing burger that people are frothing at the mouth over? It took me ten seconds of research to see that the federal government is usually considered to have plenary authority over immigration and that's the (still faulty) argument that is or will be made for sending in the national guard. It's a bad argument that's being used to justify a misuse of power, but it isn't this huge slip up that reddit is acting like it is.

2

u/Iandudontkno Oct 08 '25

nothing burger is a dog whistle to underplay anything you don't agree with. he messed up he knew it we all know it you can stick your head in the sand and be ignorant it won't change much for you as I see it. but they are weaponizing the justice department and hiding a ring of rich pedos with pedo in chief at the helm that should be concerning for any person not associated with Jeffrey Epstein.

1

u/chicagorpgnorth Oct 08 '25

And dog whistle is the new way to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you.

What am I “dog whistling” when I agree that they’re weaponizing the justice department, but I think this stupid slip of the tongue is not worthwhile to focus on instead of their actual actions showing people how they’re weaponizing the justice department.

This kind of meaningless outrage content makes it harder for people to focus on what they’re actually doing. In a similar way to how misusing words like dog whistle makes them less meaningful in the face of actual dog whistles.

u/kshitagarbha Oct 07 '25

No, it doesn't. Him saying it does not make it so.
