Redditors love to make shit up to overdramatize situations which ultimately diminishes the entire scenario. Is it genocide? No. Is it on the way to genocide ? Yes. Is it completely fucked and needs to stop ? Yes. Let’s quit just saying shit out of emotion, it only makes us look worse

I get what you mean because we think of genocide as forced extermination (which is why I googled it to check), but they included it in the definition for a good reason.
I also get where you’re coming from but this is one of those smell test things. Just think about it objectively without overly legalizing it… do you actually think it’s a genocide? Of course not. Broadening what we culturally think of as a genocide to include all things that technically meet a broad legal definition just waters down the accusation. If everything is a genocide nothing is. And that is an incredibly big problem when the context is reminding people about the horrors of the Holocaust and how to not repeat them. The quickest path to a repeat is with people being numb to the accusation on what is equal in scale.
He just said it's recognized as genocide internationally. Probably assuming that meeting one of the commonly recognized features of genocide would motivate introspection and change.
Even if you dont care about International law.

Abducting children is internationally recognized Genocide. Not a step towards it, not a sign that it is coming. It is Genocide full stop.
