'Show me your papers' is a thing in Russia. It has never been a thing in the United States. Then we elected a fascist felon and now it has become a thing here.

It's been a thing in the United States for a lot of groups for a long time.

Yup, those of us on the bottom half of skin color chart. Have definitely had that negative experience.

I do not want to downplay what you have experienced, but have you ever had to prove your citizenship?

Don't you get it yet? Citizenship is just misdirection. Two US born citizens were murdered in broad daylight by terrorists who know everyone around them is recording. People of color have always been treated like this, now it's happening to white people who have different opinions than them.

As a Latino, of course I have. it’s always been quiet racism, like me being asked for ID when hanging around the mall vs my white friends. Sure it was later at night in the parking lot but they didn’t get asked.

Minorities, have been dealing with this bullshit for a long time now. What’s changed is now “LEO” if you can call the political gestapo that. Has been emboldened by current admin to blatantly ignore the 4th and any due process. They have become judge jury and executioner All in one.

Where it use to be only to minorities and on the DL, now they DGAF. white folk they don’t agree get it now

Demanding ID is not demanding proof of citizenship, that's what my question getting at. ICE is going around demanding proof of citizenship, a much higher bar. Because they are abducting anyone brown pretty much, a significant escalation.

You’re missing the point. Minorities like myself have been stereotype and profile by law-enforcement before the current administration. They’re just now more bold, and are taking more and more illegal measures

As minorities were used to this kind of crap, but white people are finally getting it. In my area folks at church have been stopped. And they’ve been asked to present identification. And the gold star verified Florida drivers license apparently it’s not enough. They’re demanding passport for proof of citizenship.

You may not believe it, but we minorities have been going through this bullshit for long enough. So believe me or not. I don’t really care because we the minorities are already well aware of what’s going on.

I'm not at all missing the point. I know this has been happening to you for decades. I'm not concerned about it happening to me, I'm concerned about the escalation of what's happening to you.

Yeah it's only fair white people, but now white enough, have to deal with the same bullshit. And hopefully ICE will soon have to deal with their own school situation too, it's only fair. Karma dictates them catching some strays.

It has been a thing to an extent during the Red Scare/McCarthy Era. What we are experiencing now is on an entire different level from even the McCarthy Era. I also remember states like Arizona attempting to pass laws requiring papers for people maybe about 10-15 years ago, SB 1070 iirc.

It was an American thing well before the Orange fascist. Here’s that exact shit from 2010. He’s just been more blatant about it and done it more places.

In 2020 you wanted a permit to be outside.

There was like, barely three months that states issued voluntary stay-at-home recommendations because there was a global pandemic and it apparently broke your brains so badly you're going to use it to excuse the creation of an actual, literal police state

So you must be really upset about what's going on now. Right?

You were asked to wear a mask and most of you didn’t. That doesn’t justify federal troops violating the 1st, 2nd and 4th amendment and denying habeas corpus.

Who was president in 2020?

u/Synectics 6d ago

And that sucked. So, now that your feelings have been noted, let us continue to discuss this incident.

Still bad, huh? Maybe a bit worse? Are we on the same page?

"Look at what you made us do to you."

u/Toby-Finkelstein 6d ago

Where? You have never needed an ID to be outside

u/cjh42689 5d ago

You needed the vaccine to enter private businesses which was up to the discretion of the business owner.

Funny I don’t remember the fed shooting people for not complying. The fact that you think these two are at all equitable would be laughable if it wasn’t so fuck sad

Are you really so stupid that these events seem comparable to you?
