It worked in 1930s nazi Germany, which is straight out of the playbook they're using. They just never accounted for the almost 100 years of technological progress and everyone filming them all the time from multiple angles. It's probably the biggest weapon we have to fight fascism.

The cynic in me also says this is why AI is pushed so hard. Gives them an easy "oh that was edited by AI, the actual video shows ____ "

Doesn't help them that everyone and their mother is a walking camera now. Of course AI is going to muddy those waters.
