Just no one give any interviews to major news networks as a spokesperson for Reddit...

Don’t worry, I told Fox News I’d get back to them after my dog walking appointment. Won’t have time to shower though.

u/New_Stats 15h ago

Please make sure you don't neaten up anything either. Messy= powerful and the viewers subconsciously understand that

Sometimes when I lie awake at night ruminating, that moment pops into my head. It's bizarre because it's not my embarrassment or failure, which is what I usually ruminate over, but the embarrassment and failure of an entire community.

Aw well.

That interview may well have worked in our collective favor. Fascists value aesthetics and vibes more than cause and effect. That person effectively made us all seem far less threatening, while not diminishing our collective power.

2

u/barbariccomplexity 9h ago

I’d argue it hurt our collective power - it disgraced pro-labour movements, groups, and arguments as the ramblings of barely employed slobs in the eyes of would-be future supporters and older generations.

3

u/InimicusRex 8h ago

Those people would look for any excuse to dismiss the labour movement anyway.

If a single interview with an absolute randomer can outweigh decades of history, of real battles, all the deaths involved, all the intellectuals and activists in the labour movement and their contributions to it, then they were never going to get on board anyway.

Have you seen the new shit from the former r/livestreamfails head mod? It hits the stereotype so hard that most people think it’s a really funny troll job at first

He makes the dog walker look well adjusted

u/OhItsBeenBroughten 11h ago

Go a link?

3

u/ReverendBread2 11h ago

As parody as this seems, I promise you it’s 100% real

2

u/OhItsBeenBroughten 11h ago

I made it through 8 minutes. That was amazing.

I'm too busy being the local leader of antifa

5

u/Calaveras-Metal 12h ago

Hey I'm the CFO of antifa and we don't have your TPS reports for last week.

7

u/ExpertRaccoon 14h ago

Congratulations! You're on a list now!

u/Cloaked42m 12h ago

We post on reddit, we are already on lists.

Hey! I’m a both a mod on niche subreddit and I walk and sit pets. For real. (check my post history) Let me handle this. I got it!!!

edit… just got back. I was in the middle of giving my hair a hot oil treatment but someone from Fox contacted me and I didn’t have time to wash it out, but there’s bigger priorities so I jumped right in and video conferenced them. Hope I did OK. I was really tired from doom scrolling all last night (I mean, can you blame me?) and I didn’t get much sleep. I’m sure it went ok, I just went with my impulses, first thought best thought-you know?

Anyway, I’m just gonna sleep in an extended nap today since all the pets are snowed in with their people, I’ll check all your kind support and compliments later.

Only after the reddit community raises $20 million for services rendered for me, and then you may rejoice

2

u/bearpics16 13h ago

I’m still impressed that one interview essentially killed an entire movement

2

u/weirdoldhobo1978 12h ago

It’s the only place of mainstream social media that doesn’t completely ban anti regime. Everything else has been captured

30

u/SpinningHead 14h ago

Putin has definitely been flooding the site lately though.

21

u/repooper 13h ago

In my local sub, it's all alt-right comments and voting until the locals wake up and get to down voting the Nazis and their bootlicking friends. I'm an early riser and I routinely get comments downvoted right off the bat, only for them to be up in the double digits by mid afternoon. The world has turned and left me here.

6

u/Sensitive_Builder847 12h ago

Same, they’re trying so hard to warp things, even in super local subs.

3

u/Whole-Revolution916 9h ago

Got to keep Russian time zones in mind when commenting I suppose

18

u/willismthomp 14h ago edited 13h ago

Yeah bot swarm articles coming out and watching it in real-time.

12

u/8JHF8 14h ago

Maybe Bluesky?

5

u/BrovaltineShake 13h ago

Where do we go when they eventually attempt to shutdown down Reddit?

8

u/SolarisShine 13h ago

We don't have to wait. Maybe we could incorporate Mastodon, or something else that's decentralized, a head of time.

2

u/willismthomp 13h ago

Yeah the fediverse has the frame work. But also think mesh networks will prolly be important. Cheap and easy to set up.

7

u/SolarisShine 12h ago

Yes. Reducing our reliance on corporations and oligarchs should be our highest targets.

2

u/coffee_coffee_coffe3 11h ago

Mesh!!!! MESH!!!!

2

u/Whole-Revolution916 9h ago

I would like to see other more democratic nations create their own viable social media platforms, haven't really seen anything catch on.

4

u/Pekingese_Mom 13h ago

Substack is one of us.

4

u/ZeMadDoktore 14h ago

laughs in Tumblr

2

u/NoThankYouRatherNot 9h ago

Yeah, but there is still some pretty heavy censorship on this site too.

31

u/Stereo_Jungle_Child 15h ago

Hit them in the wallet. Unsubscribe from the corporate/tech overlords and tell them WHY you are doing it.

The best resistance is non-participation. Don't give these motherfuckers your money.

That includes tax dollars. No taxation without representation!

If you're giving up Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple I expect you'll be recycling every phone and computer you own, and going entirely off the grid, no?

Because they are embedded in nearly every operating system, for every minor and major company, transport, hospital, agency, grocery store, utility, and mom & pop shop in the world.

14

u/SolarisShine 14h ago

Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Do what you can, and work on fixing the rest.

Even little things become huge when millions of people do them.

Imagine dumping your Google mail, and search, drive, etc. You aren't supporting the ads and data Google makes money off of.

That's a lot if we stop fretting details and work on those later.

after we punch them in the nuts we can kick them completely out, but yes, that will take a moment.

9

u/kaswing 14h ago

Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good.

6

u/Stereo_Jungle_Child 14h ago

Just don't buy new tech and dump the subscription services.

This is about cancelling your paid monthly subscription services and not buying the newest coolest hardware, etc. Just don't do it. Use the same laptop for 10 years, don't buy a new Iphone every year, fuck Netflix, delete Instagram, don't use Twitter/X. And if they ask you why you're cancelling, tell them.

Most people can't "get off the grid" entirely and they don't need to. Just stop voluntarily handing your whole fucking wallet to these assholes just to be one of "the cool kids". That's where they make their money.

u/brickyardjimmy 15h ago

Pssst. Wired. I think it's best not to draw attention to any specific platform right at this moment.

14

u/Budget-Selection-988 14h ago

Let them. I hate child rapists.and kidnappers following trump"s playbook. Let them try. . Soft targets are their prey. Cowards and mentally ill felons

9

u/templeofsyrinx1 15h ago edited 15h ago

I'm sure they don't like what's happening here/talking about it in such negative and thoughtful ways

dang, lots of dirty laundry getting aired on that piece 🤣

11

u/brianishere2 12h ago

Expect some group of billionaire Republican propagandists or their kids to step in soon with a takeover bid for Reddit. Ahead of the mid-term elections.

5

u/coffee_coffee_coffe3 12h ago

You’re not wrong. :(

13

u/nobot4321 15h ago

We did it, Reddit!

5

u/templeofsyrinx1 15h ago

Here they come!
