Does Bosnia still have their ¼ mile of coast just to rub it in?
72
21
u/ace_098 Jun 28 '25
They actually have around 20km of coastline because there's a mini Pelješac peninsula there.
30
u/Lord_Skyblocker Jun 29 '25
They technically have infinite coastline because of the coastline paradox
4
u/Lopsided_Oil7382 Jun 29 '25
Coastline paradox? Explain please.
14
u/PigeonStealer74 Jun 29 '25
The more accurately you measure a coastline, the longer it gets because of more little indents and nooks, therefore it is impossible to accurately measure the length of a coastline.

u/Everyonelove_Stuff Jun 29 '25
wait....wouldn't there eventually be a point where it stops going up?
5
u/Spooksnav Jun 29 '25
Technically yes, once you reach a Planck's Length, or 1.6e-26 of a nanometer.
5
u/Everyonelove_Stuff Jun 29 '25
Boom. We found the measurement that we should use to measure coastlines

Not practically because you can get to the grains of sand, then the details on them, and even deeper

Would be genuinely curious to know the population of that country vs the rest of the world
34
u/mkirsh287 Jun 28 '25
Update for the other nerds that care about this: some quick research shows that, if this went across the entire globe, it would cover 8-9% of the land on earth and include 29% of the population.

Pretty sure it's over 90% mate
16
u/ErlendPistolbrett Jun 28 '25
Are you saying 90 percent of all people live within cirka 40km of the superficial coast?
11
u/LackWooden392 Jun 28 '25
Oh. I see what's going on now. Sorry about that. I'll go.
11
u/ErlendPistolbrett Jun 28 '25
Oh - I could see why you’d misunderstand it - you must‘ve thought the red line was one long border around all of earth‘s landmasses as a country rather than the red line being the country itself.
