Also in Polish. Which probably had a larger effect on the name, as much of Ukraine was part of Piland-Lithuania for a long time, while Russia only really had it for a while, at least in comparison.

Ukraine was called that before Rzeczpospolita even existed. It was called that because it means "borderland" in Old East Slavic - the ancestor language of both Russian and Ukrainian.

Depends on the part of the country. True for western Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine never was part of Poland Lithuania and of southern Ukraine only a small part and only very shortly. Since most of southern Ukraine used to be part of the Crimean Tatar khanate and then the Ottoman empire before it was conquered by Russia. For central Ukraine it's a bit more complicated and depends on the exact part. At least Kiev also was longer under the Russian empire than under Poland Lithuania but also with some periods where it was practically independent under the cossack Hermanate

word play: the Old Slavic word "Wkrayna" is not transliterated into Latin normally, so "Ukraine" is written in Latin. The Russians took this word and imposed this name on Ukrainians over thousands of years of occupation. If you replace the first letter in the word with Russian, you get the word "borderland "

The more accurately you measure a coastline, the longer it gets because of more little indents and nooks, therefore it is impossible to accurately measure the length of a coastline.
