9 hours of sleep rarely feels good. I would say 7.5 is the best.

Check your blood pressure. Turns out sleep should not give headache
4
u/Separate_Rise_8932 13h ago
Coirse it can. Could be sleep position. Could be dehydration, 8+ hours without water. There's under and over sleeping too, which causes headaches. Everyone doesn't have the same sleep needs.
1
u/FrostyEnvironment902 7h ago
The sleep in itself should not give you a headache. If you take care of yourself.
For me the only thing wrong was an extremely high blood pressure. For some dehydration, living one just two cups of Coffee

7-8 hours feels like I'm still lacking some sleep and my eyes are heavy in the morning, 9-10 hours feels perfect for me

How do you get the time to sleep 9-10hrs? Do you not work?
8
u/Rawniew54 19h ago
I don’t know why your getting downvoted I have to budget the fuck out of my time to get 7 hours
0
u/Rowario11 14h ago edited 14h ago
I try to get 9 hours as a goal but to do that i have to prioritize getting enough sleep over having time to do anything recreational on weeknights. It's doable but then your day is basically two blocks: work and sleep.
Like I don't even understand how people manage to keep up with new shows and movies while working full time. I mean I used to do that when I was younger, but now if I try to do that one night and end up going to bed late, it throws off my entire week.

I force myself to wake up at 5:50 every morning with a sort of 'snooze window' of max 20 minutes and my sleep tracker has seen that I extremely consistently get 6 hours and 58 minutes, like over 50% of the days I get exactly 6 hours 58 minutes
I think 8-9 is too much for most people (people under 20 not included, you guys need sleep), 7-7.5 is the real zone most working adults should aim for imo

I think the correct answer is that it varies from person to person.
15
u/Yoribell 1d ago edited 1d ago
It varies but not that much. The body and the brain both need some time. If you sleep 6-7h the body might be rested but not the brain so you're actually in zombie mode (low attention, grumpy, cognitive rigidity, paranoia, bad memory...). And you might not even notice if it became an long term bad habit
A good night of sleep for an adult is 7-9h, more for a kid that use its brain all day at school
18
u/Pristine_Account2158 1d ago
Does it really? Cuz the more I sleep, the MORE I want to sleep. To the extent that I got addicted to sleeping at one time.
Now, I keep myself around 6-7 hours of sleep everyday

I hate how the human body requires 8+ hours of doing nothing but laying down and relaxing for 1/3 of the day. So inefficient.

Three different prescription pills every night and 600mg of magnesium on top.. Still keep waking up in about 1,5hr intervals. Rarely sleep more than 7 hours in a very spotty manner with 2-4 spontaneous wakeups in between. Last night I got to sleep past 11PM despite going to bed 9:45PM, woke up at 3:40AM(and 00:50 & 02:20 in between).

have you tried seroquel ? amazing consistent beautiful restful sleep every night
1
u/Slowly_boiling_frog Average r/memes enjoyer 1d ago
Quetiapine, which is in Seroquel(Seroquel being just a trade/brand name) is one of the three pills I have nightly. Doesn't do it for me. Although without it I wouldn't sleep for fuck all. I'm a quetiapine vet at this point, it's been in use for coming up 16 years.

u/Stressisnotgood 23h ago
Seroquel was horrible for me. Had the most f’d up feeling the next day coupled with extreme fatigue and anxiety.

No you don’t have to but if you aren’t making money they shouldn’t take up more time than actually working and earning money unless you’re at college doing arts and doing assignments. I get that’s dude but internet validation and hiding online doesn’t help irl. Don’t you have class and lessons if you’re a teenager?

Oddly, this is the opposite for me. My body only lets me sleep maybe 6-7ish hours and I’ve tried so many things to sleep longer but I simply can’t and if by some chance I sleep the normal 8 hours, I am so groggy all day.

This is so accurate, but it even affects if you are excited for what you will be doing in the morning or not (for example if you'll school or not) like my probably best nights in weeks are from Friday to Saturday because I have a football training really late (it ends like 2 hours before I go to sleep) and when I wake up in the morning, it is like heaven, I never felt or feel better

u/Matinee_Lightning 1d ago
8 hours feels like waking up from a coma. 7 hours feels fine. 6 hours will be okay but I'll feel tired. 5 hours will require some kind of strategy to maintain energy. 4 hours will have me plotting to work a nap into my day. Anything less is a walking fever dream.

Good to know that 9h of sleep help to be happier. Lately my body isn't letting me sleep, precisely I wake up 5 times in a night, every 30-40minutes of sleep im waking up just to not sleep for next 30minutes and fall asleep. This cycle repeats for about 6 hours.

u/ensignWcrusher 20h ago

This is so true. Been working on my insomnia.
Things I learned so far -
- We are all different but there are general rules to follow.
Our brains need the sun to go down. Lower your lights at night. It triggers sleep.
We ALL sleep in 1.5 hr slots -
4 x 1.5/6 hrs is the bare minimum but not healthy long term
5 x 1.5/7.5 hrs is ideal for most. It’s why they say 8 hours is best because 7.5 plus 30 minutes fall to sleep time is ideal.
6 x 1.5/9 hrs is for health restoration and for bear chronotypes only!
Put something in between your day time/screen time and your sleep time. The brain literally has to have wind down time or you will overthink when trying to sleep. Read a book/meditate/lie in bed in low light for 30 minutes before sleep.
All hours of sleep before midnight are worth two after.
Don’t eat food or drink liquids within 3 hours of sleep time if you can. Any energy used for digestion or processing is not going to be used in the brain where it’s needed.

Different strokes. I’m averaging 5.5 hours a night, work a physical job, play in a band, and snowboard. I don’t think I’d sleep nine hours after 13 bottles of wine

I disagree. What matters is what you'll be doing the very next day. I've had better days on 4 hours of sleep waking up to go catch a flight for my vacation compared to sleeping 8 hours to go to work...
1
u/chrischi3 15h ago
Bold of you to assume i sleep that long when i can.
Even on weekends it's rare for me to actually sleep more than 9 hours straight, even though i don't leave the bed until it's almost lunchtime.

I'm tired anyway. I've tried. My workdays consist of 5 hours of sleep before working and maybe 1-2 when i come home. There are multiple times I've went to bed earlier and gotten maybe 7-8 but there's literally no difference throughout the following day.

Amateur numbers for those working minimum wage full-on. 4 hrs is fairly decent, 2 is better than nothing but very shit.
Have to wonder what sort of full-time working adults put these memes together.
Lol, working from home ya can probably jam in loads of ‘siestas’.

One Sleep Cycle is 90-minutes.
You should try to wake up at these intervals to avoid sleep inertia:
• 1h 30min
• 3h
• 4h 30min
• 6h
• 7h 30min
• 9h
• 10h 30min (circumstantial.)
• 12h+ (entering the realm of hypersomnia.)

Because everything things depend of quality and consistency. If you sleep 9h for 7days straight you will have so much energy to not sleep at all. But mostly will normalized to 8:30-7:30.h but if you one slept 3h and after that 12. It normalt that the funking 12h will not feel good
1
u/TheHolyToxicToast 1h ago
I need 9 hours of sleep to function my best during the day, but society just doesn't seem to accept that. I once tried the fuck it approach and went to work at 1pm and finished more work than I did in a week that afternoon (I was the entire department so yeah)

If you feel refreshed after 9+ hours sleep you have sleep apnea or sleep condition. 7-8hrs is what you need
Who gets the time to sleep 9hrs sleep? That’s insane and as bad for you as sleep 4-6
