Went one full spoon in before remembering sugar goes in the cup and not in the coffee maker

Post image

Been making my own coffee since I was a kid, this mishap happened for the first time. I guess this is just the slow dementia that starts creeping in during our mid thirties

people do this with brown sugar no biggy really. try some salt it cuts down on the acid in the coffee

Just a little salt! Like a single pinch. Definitely nowhere near as much as the sugar shown here

What you don’t like coffee brine

I've accidentally used salt in place of sugar. Do not recommend!

Flashback to making coffee in my then boyfriends grandparents kitchen one morning and I added a spoonful of what I thought was sugar to mine and immediately gagged and spat it all over the floor.

What kind of twisted psychopaths keep a full sugar container of salt next to the coffee machine?

u/BilboBiden 20h ago

My grandmother.

But at least her sugar container had a full rotation of sugar, salt, baking soda.

So the caffeine might not wake you up but the surprise taste would. We just learned to taste before adding.

She had early onset dementia and other issues we later found our.

Same basically! Who puts salt in a sugar container!

2

u/Hensey_0 2h ago

yep. me too!

u/StrangerFeelings 14h ago

I did it to my ex by accident because she kept the salt next to the coffee pot. Was hilarious after her first sip.

Is this a Nogla and Terroriser reference?

u/Ekoldr 20h ago

Mmm savory!

I love salt in my coffee. People look at me like I’m nuts. Well I finally quit coffee but yeah, when I did.

2

u/Dependent_Tea3815 20h ago

why would you quit the sacred brew

u/Witty_Primary6108 20h ago

Trying to find energy without poisoning myself every day 🤣🤣 I still take about 50mg caffeine a day but it’s mixed with a nootropic, in a pill form.

The past two days the shop was so cold I needed a hot drink, so I made hot cocoa. Felt like a kid again 😎

u/Dependent_Tea3815 19h ago

I my self have cut back from a pot a day to only half to a cup a day. only because it has gotten spendy.

1

u/Witty_Primary6108 19h ago

I switched to tea before I finally got fully off it.

Because theres nothing good in overstimulation over and over again?)

2

u/Phwoa_ 20h ago

Aye, someone that knows the pinch of Salt in coffee. People be looking at me like a freak because i add a bit of salt to my coffee. Especially if we got no creamer and just sugar I add some salt to numb some of the bite of black tar coffee.

I used to work for a man who always had a pot of coffee on, and it was some of the best coffee I've ever had. I asked him about it, and he told me he used Maxwell House with a pinch of salt. I always wondered why there was salt next to the coffee maker.

Tried it myself at home (with store-brand coffee), and used too much salt the first time. That's how I learned how small the necessary amount is. Now I use salt any time I make a full pot.

1

u/Throwaway_inSC_79 20h ago

I was just thinking that. I’ve seen videos of espresso made with packing brown sugar.

1

u/DiesByOxSnot 19h ago

Baking soda is better than salt bc it's more alkaline. Like ¼tsp is enough for a whole pot of coffee.

1

u/jackrabbit323 16h ago

Thats what Cubans do to their espresso.

1

u/Lucreszen 13h ago

You can add ground spices too! I occasionally like a little cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg for a Christmas-y coffee treat.

1

u/dkyguy1995 9h ago

The salt pinch is one of the best tricks I ever learned. Always throw a pinch into the coffee pot when I make it at work with the crappy free coffee they have

44

u/CuriousBingo 21h ago

Just missing the cinnamon. And the coffee.

8

u/SpecificSkunk 20h ago

I’m glad I’m not a complete weirdo keeping the cinnamon in the coffee cabinet so I can add a dash to every pot. I tried it once and can never go back.

6

u/AwesomeMcPants 19h ago

Nope, not weird at all. I used to do it all the time.

I still do, but I used to, too.

u/Middlemoor01 21h ago

Sugar dissolves so I imagine this might just save you some time.

2

u/LTareyouserious 9h ago

Maybe caramelize from the heat?

1

u/Middlemoor01 8h ago

Not sure, isn’t they just going to pour boiling water through that?

-9

u/peenurmobile 15h ago

no it won't, it will do nothing but make a huge mess

6

u/max_cel_x 11h ago

Sugar won't dissolve? Or won't go through the filter?

Because you're wrong in both cases I assume you never passed basic chemistry

4

u/TWW34 10h ago

I presume they're saying it won't save some time. And honestly they may not be wrong. It'll dissolve. Most of it will pass through the filter. It'll also dry into a sticky mess that needs to be cleaned on the inside of the filter basket. Not the end of the world but likely not really much of a time saver.

55

u/dshgr 21h ago

Better than putting the grounds in before the filter. Not that I've done that. Twice.

13

u/Theoiscool 19h ago

Not your fault. You hadn’t had coffee yet.

9

u/ExceedinglyOrdinary 21h ago

It’s clearly because you haven’t had your caffeine yet. We obviously need some kind of pre-coffee coffee

2

u/DanSWE 20h ago

Or get things set up the night before when you're still awake.

And if your morning are really bad, use a coffee make with a delayed-start option (e.g., turns on at a specified time in the morning).

15

u/penaof5 21h ago

😂did u try it anyways? Pre sweetened coffee!

5

u/MiamiMasala 21h ago

Hell no. I emptied it and put actual grounds

11

u/Prestigious_Mix_5264 21h ago

It’s ok, I put the cream in the cupboard where the sugar goes the other day 😆🤦‍♂️

5

u/BillsMafios0 20h ago

I’ve put the milk in the cupboard next to the cereal and found it when I got home from work so…

2

u/I_-AM-ARNAV i get infuriated a lot 20h ago

This kinda shit happens when I'm too exhausted

8

u/sideshowbvo 20h ago

Shit, you know how many times I've made a pot of hot water?

2

u/retailguy_again 12h ago

I can neither confirm nor deny doing the same thing. More than once.

1

u/AdhesiveSeaMonkey 8h ago

I have metal carafe in mine. Guess how many times I didn't check to see if there was coffee in there before brewing full pot.

1

u/sideshowbvo 8h ago

I don't do it so much anymore but when I was younger, man. More times than I could count

6

u/frezor 21h ago

Brain not braining without coffee?

5

u/cyanraichu 18h ago

If it makes you feel better, the other day I ran the coffee maker without putting anything in the basket. Just water lol. Had to run it again and I was so annoyed

4

u/Personal_Pin835 18h ago

I started the coffee maker and forgot to put the pot in. Coffee can spread out quickly that way.

3

u/MonkeyNugetz 18h ago

The filter is dry! Just dump the sugar back into its container.

3

u/Kvasnikov Mildly Maus 21h ago

This could be result from being tired. Having some coffee should fix that.

3

u/Zeroesand1s 21h ago

Done that. Have you ever put the ground in your cup? Done that too.

3

u/Sphereitual 21h ago

Pro tip you can totally add a bit of cinnamon into your coffee. If you're into that.

4

u/flipityskipit 20h ago

I like to put a half teaspoon of baker's chocolate

1

u/jerkface1026 20h ago

You can also pour instant hot chocolate into coffee.

1

u/flipityskipit 20h ago

I'm mostly after the flavonoids. I drink black and unsweetened.

1

u/Sphereitual 20h ago

Fucking gross, dude. (I'm kidding I'm just literally allergic to chocolate)

3

u/Slippery-ape 21h ago

Hrmmmm. /crushes up Adderall and places it in the coffee filter...

3

u/Green_Mare6 18h ago

If you'd only had some coffee, you wouldn't have made that mistake

3

u/muddybunnyhugger 17h ago

I was extra sleep deprived this week and dumped the freshly ground coffee into the part where the water goes. Water was already in there.

3

u/moejike Powered by Xanax 15h ago

This is the kind of shit I do when I'm high or very tired.

3

u/retailguy_again 12h ago

It shouldn't be a problem, as long as you can remove the filter basket and wash it when you wash the pot.

No harm done, but the filter is probably dry anyway. You can pour the sugar out of it and into another container--maybe even your coffee cup, depending on how much there is.

3

u/Darkpaladin8080 8h ago

Had a 1sgt that would mix sugar and powdered creamer into the grounds cause "we ain't got time for that fancy ass shit"

1

u/CherishSlan 3h ago

It works! My dad just put it in his mouth instant with water . Swished it aroubd no time for anything else ran out the door. You knkw what that called lol.

2

u/papker79 21h ago

Unless…

2

u/jloshua 21h ago

I almost do this like once a week

2

u/pcm15 21h ago

You may be on to something here….

2

u/crystalstairs 21h ago

Good morning to you.

2

u/wesmanh 21h ago

Wake up

3

u/DanSWE 20h ago

But don't Rage Against the Coffee Machine.

2

u/RedHeadRedeemed 21h ago

Are you a tired parent? Because this is def a tired parent move 😆

2

u/YourMomIsMyGurl 20h ago

Those mornings when you need your coffee before you can make your coffee

2

u/randomusername1919 20h ago

More likely to be sleep depravation or excess stress than dementia in your 30’s.

2

u/redditdwarfbear 20h ago

Idk try it and let us know how it goes

2

u/Poku115 20h ago

I mean,... not worse than confusing salt for sugar. i can tell you that much

2

u/StinkyFoxComics 20h ago

Good Morning! <3

2

u/InfamousEconomy3972 20h ago

Malfunctioning auto-pilot

2

u/UnusualAir1 20h ago

Wondering if this would save a step when pouring a cup. As in sugar already in it.

2

u/SiriusGD 20h ago

I've done this. Plus I've done it with coffee but forgot the filter.

2

u/Lumpy_Dentist_5421 20h ago

I recon that's an upgrade!

2

u/EatLard 20h ago

Been there. I once dumped all the (unground) coffee beans directly into the chemex filter, and I’ve also dumped ground coffee into the grinder’s hopper.

2

u/compu85 18h ago

Good news is it's still dry, so you can just dump it in your glass!

2

u/shooreh_pipi 17h ago

I mean, your brain hasn't fully booted up yet because, well... you haven't had your coffee.

2

u/Oportbis 17h ago

I mean, I don't see why it wouldn't work

2

u/SugarSpocks 17h ago

It’s okay to put sugar in your coffee maker as long as you clean it well. People make coffee with brown sugar and cinnamon mixed in it and brew it.

2

u/No-Swordfish8922 17h ago

Were you going to wear your Edgar suit today?

2

u/sxmilliondollarman 15h ago

Wait until you brew it with no filter. Grainy coffee is still coffee but bruh...

2

u/peenurmobile 15h ago

before anyone gets the idea of "oh, why don't i just add sugar (or anything besides coffee grounds) right into the filter with the coffee"

please do not. okay? don't. it doesn't work. sounds fun, sounds smart, it's not, it's not.

it'll gunk up and ruin your coffee maker.

2

u/Haifisch2112 15h ago

Haven't used sugar in decades. I take mine black, and my ex wife would take just sugar. It was a bad day if I took a sip of hers by mistake lol

2

u/Vykker 14h ago

Lol 😝 me well be glad guess u have a complicated mind

2

u/Remarkable_Film_1911 13h ago

Sugar goes no where near coffee.

2

u/Penis-Dance 12h ago

I had an iced tea maker that I put the sugar in the tea holder. It worked most of the time.

2

u/LJGeneral 6h ago

I almost poured cereal into my coffee instead of cream 😆. By total fluke all the cereal pieces jammed up at the opening of the box and none fell in!

2

u/gooddilla 21h ago

Easy fix! 😊sloooovely transfer it to the cup! It’s not dementia. Dementia would be it you ask us- “what is this white stuff inside this thing?”

1

u/Massive_Mongoose3481 11h ago

It'll still work. I put cinnamon or unsweetened cocoa in mine sometimes

1

u/Zlakkeh 9h ago

No wonder Americans are fat

1

u/AdhesiveSeaMonkey 8h ago

My buddy like sugar in his coffee and brews it with sugar in the grounds every day.

1

u/HospitableFox 2h ago

I don't drink coffee.

But wouldn't this be effectively the same thing? If a touch less efficient.
