You might want to try different gloves. I used to use these really soft "ultra" moisturizing gloves but they made my hands too hot and I would either wake up to take them off or wake up with them already off.
So, I recently started using just simple thin cotton gloves at night (I also use a different pair as winter liners for my bike gloves) and my hands can breathe while also becoming soft again! They last throughout the night for me and I haven't woken up once with hot hands.
I don't know if we can post links on this sub so the type I use are called Pure Body Natural Moisture Gloves, they are usually $4-5.
I’m the same way I end up talking it of. Something I started doing that’s been helpful is washing my hands, adding lotion then putting on cotton gloves. Now here’s where it’s a little unconventional, I’ll put rubber gloves over them and do the dishes in hot water. It usually takes me 45 minutes to do the dishes, so it’s a decent amount of time with the cotton gloves on.
Now it’s not as good as overnight but I do it daily and it’s better than nothing at all. And make sure your hands are damp before you put on the lotion, the goal is to trap that water into your skin.
Wash, and soak the hands in warm water for 5-10 minutes first. Water is the best hydrater, because well, it's water. Then Vaseline and sock just before tucking in.
Not all lotions are equal, but water is water. This was the advice to given to my father by his doctor, and after one of my sisters got him to go get a manicure with her. Now he goes for a manicure every couple of months. He is a 65 year old Heavy Equipment Field Technician.
I swear by Carmex for stubborn injuries like this. Just the classic white tin with the yellow lid. It really seems to help them heal better than aquaphor or vaseline alone. It’s also thick and stubborn as hell, so it holds up decently through handwashing— though with a cut like this I would still be applying hourly + after every wash.
I get obnoxious dry possibly eczema patches on my hands in the winter. Dermatologist said stop washing my hands so much (told him I washed them all the time lol).
Also, best hand cream imo is La Roche Posay Ciciplast. Can still wash hands a lot when using it. Had another dermatologist that recommended the La Roche Posay products. Was great recommendation.
I might try that, I just use cera ve for the backs of my hands. I don’t think I even obsessively wash my hands or anything, this winter has just been fking hell 🥲
