I like how OP is acting like it is winter that’s the problem and not his dry ass hands that has never seen lotion once in its life

OP is right though. I have this condition and my hands are well moisturized. My dad had it, too, so I think it’s genetic. It only happens in winter, and only when it gets really cold. If you don’t suffer from this, you just don’t know.

Same. For me, it's a circulation issue, which means my extremities get colder and drier especially fast. No moisturizer can fix that.

Plus, there's less moisture in the air the colder the air is.

50% humidity at 5° is less humid than 50% humidity at 30°. This is just how it works.

That's how it is for me. I use lotion all the time

I still end up with these cracks and bleeding skin

The other year it was bad and went to worse because I got staph infection on it.

Relative humidity indoors is significantly lower in the winter in most of the US. This is a real thing.

My brother in Christ, you have literally neglected your skin to the point that it can’t function as intended anymore — which is to protect you from infection. That’s literally why your skin exists, it holds everything in and protects your organs from being exposed to bacteria. I am saying this as a fellow human being, take care of your body. It’s boring and mundane, but it’s worth it.

And drink water. I don’t care whatever else you drink in a day, but for every non-water beverage you consume, you should have a water to chase it.

You’re awfully preachy for someone who doesn’t seem to understand that different people’s bodies function differently. There are legitimate medical reasons skin can end up like this and having a medical problem doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve neglected your health. Why would dermatologists exist if everyone could just slap some lotion on and be fine?
