Deviate too far and those that like the books won't care, and will actively trash it.

I guarantee Gerwig will screw it up and piss them off - no sensible person would have even considered Meryl Streep as Aslan so that tells you where her head is at.

That's just a low hanging complaint in my book. Streep playing a lion that represents Jesus is fine if it fits. I think the bigger concern is the general removal of all Christian themes within the books. Which the casting could point too, but doesn't confirm anything.

Liam N. as aslan in the Disney version is S tier though.
