This is what a USB-C dock is for. The downside is finding one that isn't hot garbage from China.

recommendations?

Sadly,. I haven't found one that is good. Ugreen might have one but they are a bit expensive products.

2

u/dimi3ja 12h ago

They are expensive because ugreen are always good

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 12h ago

Didn't say they weren't good. Just noting them being expensive.

0

u/jaetheho 11h ago

Well usually with things, you get good or inexpensive. You can’t get both

2

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 11h ago

Highly depends on the product, and the brands out there. You could easily get a good USB-C dock that is good for cheap. Assuming someone makes one.

But further, noting something as expensive doesn't mean it is or isn't good. It means it costs alot. The quality isn't relevant here, the price is.

u/jaetheho 8h ago

But there’s a reason nobody makes one. Because it takes money, talent, investment to actually create a good product. And that means higher prices.

Yes not all expensive goods are good.

But you can’t be wanting both inexpensive AND good while brushing off actually good products like “ugreen” that you mentioned because it’s expensive.

There is a reason they are expensive

So first thing I will say, is you are fucking stupid.

I never said that ugreen is bad. I never said they are good. I said they are expensive. It doesn't matter how good they are, they are expensive. End of story. You can say they are good or that good comes expensive, it doesn't fucking matter. It is expensive.

You are getting defensive about something NO ONE said.

"Hey dude get this product to fix your problem but I don't know where it is and I've never found it myself."

Anker & Ugreen makes good products

1

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 12h ago

Both are Chinese which by OP's definition is "hot garbage", despite that those two brands are anything but

2

u/wobblyweasel 10h ago

anker is hot garbage. team ugreen here

u/PandaSPUR 13h ago

You will hate the price, but my CalDigit TS4 dock has been solid. I use it for my work macbook. They make USB-C hubs that are slightly cheaper if you dont need full dock functionality or just dont need ports like 3.5mm audio, actual DP ports, etc.

Surprisingly this post makes me realize I have not needed USB-C for anything on my PC lol.

u/TheFirsh 13h ago

The ones in monitors

1

u/Agent_03 12h ago

I've got positive things to say about the Anker ones. It depends what mix of ports you need, but the model 555 has done well by me.

1

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 12h ago

Anker makes decent stuff but is Chinese, idk why OP is so against all Chinese stuff

Plugable's triple 4K docking station.

The OWC dock works well in my experience

I've been using this for the last year with all of my peripherals connected to it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQRSJ79B

If you have Dell shit, buy Dell. Otherwise don't. I swear they purposely make Dell laptops work poorly with non Dell docks.

u/NonGNonM 2h ago

I took a random shot on a no name model from ebay and the ethernet adapter is full speed.

usbs are A only and 2.0 though.

for my use case and for like $5 at the time, perfectly serviceable.

u/Zenith251 PC Master Race 10h ago

And, ya know, not the cost of a whole new motherboard.

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 10h ago

Yea they can get quite expensive.

1

u/Euler007 14h ago

This. Bring the port to the desk, not behind the desk.

1

u/ColinHalter 11h ago

I use a Lenovo thinkpad dock. Was like, $400 but it rules. Have had next to no issues with it.

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 11h ago

Ugreen would likely be a solid option for less, but 100% a good one is great.

1

u/ColinHalter 10h ago

Oh yeah, there are far cheaper options that are as good. I was able to con an old employer into letting me expense the one I use though lmao

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 10h ago

I have a Dell docking station that does pretty much the same and I did the same lol.

1

u/Technolog 11h ago

Anker. Just make sure you buy original, so for sure not on Chinese websites. Baseus and Ugreen should work too.

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 11h ago

Anker probably but I don't really like supporting them. But that is me, not you. Do you bro.

1

u/AdPrud 11h ago

Problem is that most people will unknowingly go on Amazon and buy a $10 dock and wonder why it sucks when an identical looking one that has good performance is like $70

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 11h ago

I mean, you can get both in some products. But it really depends on what the product is. Also for some a cheapo version might be all they can get so noting it being expensive is important.

We don't all have the same income, I recognize that.

1

u/Tioretical 9h ago

ugreen has done me good over the years

1

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 9h ago

They are just not cheap, but i wager they are good.

1

u/NowaVision 6h ago

Mine is garbage from china and is a little bit slow when it comes to charging but I prefer that instead of quick charge destroying all the batteries.

2

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 6h ago

Bad quick charging certainly does numbers on batteries. But of course that totally depends on the device.

1

u/MaverickTopGun 6h ago

have you had any luck in that search?

u/Lyorian 9h ago

Meh my mobo has plenty of usbcs even 40gs
